Hello Christy,
Thankyou for posting the new Christy Chat of your musical adventures over the last year. Lovely to read. It’s hard to imagine 83 gigs in a row all those years ago, and they’re still be bearing fruit today. You sound like you’re enjoying the magic.
It’s been 7 months since I retired. I’m starting to find my feet but it still feels strange after 32 years working to have so much freedom. I’ve written my first tune, this last week. A little 8 bar thing, a kind of waltz with 5 beats per bar. Recorded it because I knew I’d forget it if I didn’t. I’m adding a link here if you don’t mind having a listen. Not sure what to do with it next. https://samply.app/p/3pmAvp36oIVCGhujQI1X?si=vu3mNJlOnQSuVtYhDdCRjk2pUI63

Great show in NCH a few weeks ago.
Sharing a poem my son wrote, thought you might find it interesting.

——————————————————-
Hop out of the car and step into the bar,
and leave up my auld hat at the door;
I order a stout to wash my thoughts out,
Then sit back and inspect the decor.
While I sip the black sauce, I see St Brigid’s cross,
Up high by the bold Proclomation;
Directly below there’s a poster on show,
for a protest against immigration.
Brigid the dove taught the gaels how to love,
Then Connolly and Pearse made a start;
Remembered with pride, just ignore why they died,
And that protest, the hate in our heart.
There’s a young migrant pair quiet unfazed by the stares,
And the punters that call them cruel names;
Like tears they did flow from a Syrian plateau,
I want to say “lads we’re the same”.
The Morrigan roams your beautiful home,
No more does she stalk Erin’s lands;
So I never knew bombs but I’ve sang the old songs,
And I’ve mourned for the brave Bobby Sands.
Those vultures who prey on Damascus today,
For the greed of a lecherous few;
They’re the very same clan that once wore black and tan,
but we’re free now, they’re busy with you.
I’d love to say “son, your day will come”
But will it? It never came here;
Partitioned by guns and the threats of the huns,
Yet it’s immigrants now that we fear.
We watched our homes burn and with nowhere to turn,
In millions we fled overseas;
But now it’s as if our lost children return,
Living on in today’s refugees.
Their anguish and pain is exactly the same,
As the fear we felt not long ago;
But we, to our shame, can’t see past foreign names,
They’re our family – we tell them to go.

Hi Christy
So glad we are back on your lovely Island where the weather is normal! The last weeks we had temperatures of 30 and more! Not very normal in May. And still there are people who don’t believe in global climate change🤔
Anyway looking forward to see and hear you tomorrow ❤️
See you and big hug Chris
Lovely story in this weeks “The Gaa Social “ Podcast about how a former Missionary Priest brought the songs of Christy Moore to the children of Nigeria / Tanzania and Zambia and Christy now top of the charts with these wonderful children . Well worth a listen. https://open.spotify.com/episode/3K0BFE84LQ7CQLat4I8u46?si=Opj4f09_T6iErIXtJ-8flg
My partner, John, has grown up listening to your music since being a child and has always been a big fan! His birthday is on Friday 11th September and I am hoping to take him to see your concert on the same day. It would absolutely make his day if you could wish him a happy birthday, if you wouldn’t be too busy and didn’t mind doing so. If you don’t see this, John loves your songs and I’m a growing fan too! Thank you very much. With kind regards and warm wishes from Violet and John from Merseyside.

Hi C. Lots of people were eagerly listening to the radio at 8.30 this am, lots of online activity between some 4711ers, lots of people plotting long journeys and hoping to secure tickets, some fascinating pairings, let the games begin now in earnest ! I was at a most riveting gig last night in the Whitehorse in Ballincollig, the second of 4 Monday gigs by Jimmy MacCarthy and Declan and 4 other band members. They belted out the songs for over 2 hours, I did n’t get all their names but they have been friends and band mates for decades in various formations and it was very obvious. They started with a Declan song There is a Train That Leaves Tonight and included Miles of Eyes, He Ho Believe, the most up tempo version of BBR that I ever heard, Christian Telephone, Katie , No Frontiers, Ride On, Ancient Rain , the Contender, and more, maybe 20 songs or so. The buzz was amazing, the venue perfect and the sound just fantastic. I was so, so happy to have been there to experience it and look forward to his NCH gigs later in the year, it is so wonderful to see Jimmy Mac back on the road again. Of course you got an honourable mention, as did Freddie White who was in the audience. Let the music keep our spirits high, for sure. Roll on Mayo !! Beir bua agus beannacht. H

Just to say a massive thank you for the gig last night — it was absolutely brilliant from start to finish! I’ve come over from Scotland three times in the last six months to see you, but last night was something else. The NCH brought me right back to your days in the Concert Hall in Glasgow.
We were front row with our daughter Olivia and her friend Orla, and you made their night (and ours) when you sang Sail on Jimmy for them. We also gave you a cheeky shout for No Time for Love… and fair play, you delivered on that too!
The soundtrack for the night was phenomenal. As it went on, the gig really veered into that old political route — the one that reminds everyone why your music still hits as hard as ever (and probably still rattles a few cages along the way).
Thanks again for a cracking night — we’re still buzzing!
All the best,
Shugster

Well Christy, you were right about Carrick on Suir.. we had a mighty gig in the Strand Theatre.. funny you mentioned Peg Clancy here, her great grandson Liam Power (10) came in to tell us he had made €63 busking on the accordion during the day.. A request for “Ride On” came up and I told your story about the salmon.. no such luck on the way out for us..! We played amongst others; The Dutchman, Go Lassie Go, The Galtee Mountain Boy… then hightailed it straight to the airport for a gig in north Scotland..a folk festival in Hopeman along the beach.. got to hear Siobhan Miller, the Scottish folk singer.. we hit the stage then at 8:30pm and were on a plane at 9AM home.. great fun.. It sounds like the NCH gigs went down a treat.. it’s buzzing here.. round we go..
