Dear Christy,
I have waited decades to finally see you in concert. Almost 25 years ago I studied abroad in Prague in the Czech Republic and the best people there were the Irish. They introduced me to your music and to all things Irish, language, history, sports, dance, etc. (even Bertie Ahern… ;-)) I had never been able to secure tickets but now I have three of them and my partner, our daughter and I are hopefully in on a great night with you!! I was wondering if there was any way you could maybe play “Bright Blue Rose” or even “The Reel in the Flickering Light”?? If, by any chance, you see a blonde woman in the audience who starts crying the second you start singing “City of Chicago” or “The Voyage”, well, that’ll be me… I am right next to the cutest little 9-year-old girl, can’t miss it. :-)) I am so looking forward and can’t wait to hearing you live. No idea if you do autographs… 🙂
Message to Isabel, I can help you if you can make the gig on Monday December 8th. I only have one rule…Tickets will only ever be sold at face value, never above! Leave a message here if that suits or drop some contact details. Pádraig
Hi Christy,
I absolutely love your music! I’ve been trying time and time again to get tickets to a Vicar Street show with no luck from Ticketmaster so I’ve decided to chance my arm and head straight to the source himself! If you know of anyone unable to attend on any upcoming nights in Dublin, please keep me in mind, I’ll pay top dollar!
All the best, and hopefully I’ll be seeing you soon!
Isabel
Christy you made the most of four Wee days. Up Annaverna for the Puc…would love a photo if you striking the sliotar with the camán on the Cúchullain trail!
The Ballymac is also our home when home….we love the early morning swim before the big fryup brekkie….and the stroll through the golf course to the Dolmen.
Though I miss the personal touch of the previous owners, a local family called Quinn, they sold it on a couple of years ago
Did you get the chance to visit the County Museum in Dundalk? They have done a grand job with local history.
Did you drop into Marks bar and sing a song for old times sake?
Christy's reply
its over 40 years since I last visited Mark’s Bar…always got a great welcome there… myself and Mark had a right few scoops together…
I dont know how this came about: one night I sat on a chair on the counter of Marks bar and did a set…I cant remember whether it was impromptu or organised or a bit of a fund raiser…but I have this vivid memory of sitting astride the counter singin “The Ballad of Joe McCann”..I’m thinking it was the late 1970s… I ended up staying the night…the next morning ,another story best forgotten…
This is just to let you know that you have fans in Hungary who will come to your show in Trim on October 2nd. 🙂
I first got introduced to your music 30 years ago taking Irish studies in a Budapest university. I always wished I could hear you play live but I had to be patient. However, since 2022 I have been somewhat of a regular at your shows, accompanied either by my guitarist son or by my sweet wife. We have seen you play in Limerick, in Belfast, in Derry (twice), in Mullingar and now my wife and I are coming to Trim.
We are looking very forward to the evening! If you could play Nancy Spain, that would be something special. Note for note and word for word, this has always been the most beautiful love song I have ever heard.
Kind regards,
Peter (and Katalin)
Christy's reply
Peter & Katalin…Örvendek. I wish you a safe journey to Trim and I hope you will have a happy and fruitful visit to our Island
Hi Christy
I am going to be part of The Flotilla that is making the trip from Yellow Furze up The River Boyne to Trim for tomorrow nights event in The Knoghtsbrook
What an amazing coincidence that exactly 20 years too the day (Oct 2nd) Conor passed over to other side RIP and if memory serves me right you arrived few hours later to visit not knowing he had passed, just as many times previously to chat and reminisce about Nancy and the Power family and memories of Ardmulchan/ Hayestown / Cotton Mills and Yellow Furze.
How time fly’s by
If it possible would love to hear a few bars of Hond 50 it would rekindle fond memories and if you think of bringing The Bodhran maybe you belt out The Hackler
Christy's reply
recieved loud and clear Emma..thanks for your post…Conor & Nancy always remembered….x
Well Christy, that was a great chat altogether. So four days in County Louth! Well Gabi and myself are doing the exact same! Ryanair dropped ús in Dublin airport, ten past one in the morning, and I scurried off to get the car as the desk closed officially at 01:00. Delighted I was to see the Thrifty light still on and the delightful Aishling had waited for us, above and beyond the call of duty.
Spent some of our time visiting my brother, badly ill in hospital. Then a grand family party with nine American relations who came over to cheer on the Pittsburgh Steelers. They won!
On out to Carlingford with the lot of us, to enjoy the beautiful Heritage Centre.
As National Trust members we crossed the border to visit some sites…..strange to be paying extra for the rented car to go into the UK! And of course no Euros allowed!
Did you wander to the Dolmen? Did your stone stay on the top? I brought down an avalanche with mine…..maybe it was too big….
Didn’t visit Cross this time. Remember the days travelling to O’Neills with Seoirse to make a bit of music. Now Seoirse was nearly a local so he was called on to sing. As he started ‘the Boys of Mullaghbawn’ he said ‘I like to know the story of a song I sing, and I don’t know this one. Maybe someone here does’
When he had finished this fella comes up to the mic and told the story of the Boys. It was the great storyteller Johnny Campbell himself. We were all having great craic till a fella comes in and says the Whitecaps(SAS) are on the road. The place emptied immediately, those Whitecaps were very vicious, especially to southern registered car drivers!
Your chat brought back some grand memories Christy, thank you! And great that you enjoyed the Wee County.
Christy's reply
The Boys of Mullaghbawn is a great song to sing…
We enjoyed the Wee…our billet was in Ballymascanlon….we reccied Dundalk and Newry…climbed the Peaks of Cooley, trailed up down and around Gullion, had a go at the Puc Fada and a mighty feed in Ghan House
Cant wait for the gig on Thursday in the Knightsbrook. Married to a Spaniard who’s brother coincidentally is obsessed with Irish music… 12 years, 2 kids later and hes never been to Ireland… until I told him I had a Christy Moore ticket for him. So thanks alot for making him get the finger out. Hes called Nanni… no requests in particular we love them all… go raibh maith agat agus ádh mór ort
I hope your keeping well? Im a Rathangan man but living in Newbridge 20 years!
Just thought I’d send you on a song I’ve recently released. It’s a simple little folk song that tells the story of my childhood and falling in love with Irish folk music You also get a mention in the 2nd verse!
Just wanted to say thank for the inspiration and the amazing music you have blessed us with over the years. Some of the greatest memories of my life, are of me and my family singing along to you while driving the back roads of Kildare!
Rathangan always on my mind
had some rare experiences there
among them:
very early Planxty gig in 1972…a marquee on the edge of town run by a man called Tom Byrne..I think he was a Fine Gael Councillor
back in 1964 went to a pub there with McCabe’s dart team from Newbridge….we won the match but the porter was shockin flat, we still shifted a quare drop..
Hi Christy,
Mention of the Bodhran brings me straight to John Reilly’s ” The Well”. I still jump when you hit that last note even though I know its on it way….that’s the beauty of getting immersed in a song/tune. What a legacy John left behind and massive credit to you for keeping his memory alive.
Roll on Thursday.
Best Regards.
Ride on.

Christy's reply
sound Patsy…I sometimes feel that the Bodhrán solo in “The Well” has had its day…I’ve never been able to find a song that works so well with the drum…that said, recently I’ve been playing “Lemon 7s” and tappin the goat…
your reflection encourages me to keep “The Well” rhythmed up…..
one way or the other we’ll “Trim The Velvet” come thursday
Sharing a note from my da, he asked me to post it on your site almost a year ago.
In September in holy cross church yourself and Bik McFarlane sang ride on at my daughter Gail’s funeral. Almost 25 years later to the day in Bundoran your last song was ride on. For a few minutes we could touch her spirit in the room. We left with happy tear drops, for this I would like to thank you.
The McErlean family
Christy's reply
I appreciate hearing from you…. I well remember that sad day…
Thanks for a great concert at the Knightsbrook hotel. Very impressed over your energy on stage. Surprised when you mentioned us at the end of the concert and singing a song for us. Regards from Anna and Stig from Norway.
Christy's reply
” I’ll bid farewell to Old Clonmel and the hive of the Honey Bee
to the safe homes of Tipperary that o’ft times sheltered me
and to that Flying Column who kept the flag flying high
may their cause be ne’er forgotten said The Galtee Mountain Boy”
( I first heard this song while living in Annie Kehoe’s in 1963…I added some lines…It was sung by Patsy Halloran whom I last saw at Annie’s Funeral )
Good morning Christy,
Thank you for your kind answer !
I ll love it…. Perhaps you could grab out another precious gem I m longing for … You ve talked just recently here about it..
The wonderful two island swans…. heartmelting…. Perhaps?!!
Can hardly wait for it til it s Thursday
And thank you and your wonderful Crew around you so very much for making all this happen
see you happily soon

Nice post Rory! Christy, I always thought “Whatever Tickles” was a seminal recording! Yes, drum and bass, synth and strat with the lads! It was sowing the seeds for what was to come 5 or 6 years later! Cracking songs, “January Man”, “Go! Move! Shift!”, ‘Tim Evans”, “What Put The Blood”, “One Last Cold Kiss”, “Tipping It Up”, Home be Barna”, and of course “Van Diemans Land” and what a way to close out the album with Jimmy’s one minute outro! It was the beginning of the Meeting Place Years! Kevin getting primed for the Bothy Band! And yourself after posting a 149 checkout on the dartbord in the downstairs bar of The Meeting Place on the Album Cover! What’s not to love about that album!
Christy's reply
I reckon the seed for this album was sown when I heard Fairport Convention in Manchester circa 1970…
after Planxty Nicky Ryan introduced me to Jimmy Faulkner who ,in turn, introduced me to Declan McNelis, Kevin Burke came from London to join us, Robbie Brennan was a busy drummer at the time but came on board….Donal Lunny produced….memory does not extend to the studio or the recording sessions…I do recall the man from Polydor being difficult when we needed an extra couple of days to finish the project….luckily I had a supporter at Polydor in London, George McManus, who enabled us to continue….
I have a clear memory of the sleeve photo….Tom Collins was the snapper…we met very early one Sunday Morning…I had an idea for an early morning picture of O’Connell St Dublin…just myself and the Seagulls…things went awry early on… we detoured to an Early House, Slattery’s in Capel Street, at opening time we moved over to The Meeting Place in Dorset Street, Red Peters Band had an afternoon gig upstairs…the basins of porter were flowing freely, 12 hours after meeting Tom got this shot in the Lounge downstairs…I was well into the second gallon as Tom did his best to remain upright….
PS just checked out the sleeve and I see Pat Morley at the controls..at the time he was engineer at Dublin Sound …since its release 50 years ago this year you may be the first one to note the 149…I still have that bag beneath the dartboard…
Yesterday,in London there was a huge gathering of songsters,to pay tribute to Martin Carthy…sorry not to be there….
21st May 1941 is an epic date in folk circles…Bob Dylan and Martin Carthy were born. They met and became friends in London during the bitter Winter of 1961. Now online,a film clip of Dylan praising Carthy’s influence on him…a brilliant gesture to a companero and terrific that Dylan looks and sounds so well. Must be something in this constant touring lark…
I m very happy to be back again soon for the second gig in Trim … so very much looking forward to seeing you.
Will be a very short trip this time for me but it didn t work out longer. Anyway it s worth it and I love it.
Perhaps you will bring your bodhran this time … it s just so magic when you play it…. can feel the heart of the Earth beating with it. But anything you ll play… I ll be happy!
So I m so glad to see you soon and listen to your wonderful music which really brightens my life
All the best

Hello Christy,
Hope the Frank Harte festival is going swimmingly. Anyone else here feel a change in the air? Somehow I feel optimistic. The walk out at the UN, the dropping of the stupid charge against kneecap. Women’s sport feeling like Sport. I hope the tide has changed. I feel it and I hope I feel it right.
Hi Christy
Thank you for the great read!
For you and all of us time flows on. You are still so full of energy and dedication. Fantastic. And what a beautiful thought it is that your work will be archived for generations to come.
As a balladeer you’ve changed peoples lives throughout all of those years. Young and old. Around the world. So please do keep the motor running for another couple of years.
