Christy's reply
Greetings to you KK, good to hear from you…hope your own music is going well
Hi Christy, Thanks again for another fantastic night on Saturday. I brought the next generation. ” Nancy Spain” stole the show for me, the backing was brilliant, no offence to Dec. By the way you look great. P
Christy's reply
I’m enjoying the contrast of the (for me) very different gigs…the Trad Outfit brings a new dimension to the sound whilst the sound Ive been enjoying with Declan these past 13 years is in itself unique…glad you had a good night with the next generation
Christy, good to see you togging out again, great reports from the Marble City, all you needed was The Liam McCarthy (next time)………. All ticket on Sunday in St.Conleths, O`Byrne Cup Final, KILDARE v DUBLIN. I remember when the Dubs would come to Town, panic, some bars and shops would close, but never the old homeplace, there was always a great bit of fun before and after. My Mother would spend all Sat night making sambos`, plates of them, for the hungry crowd. Bikes everywhere, lads “in from the Bog”, and getting back home in the late hours with no light on the bike. The buses waiting for the long trip back to Dublin, and there was always one to miss his lift….And we seldom beat the Dubs, Cill Dara abu.
Christy's reply
great times John..back in the 50s there was a great atmosphere when “The Jackeens” came to town….I recall there be excitement about the town…special trains loaded to the gunnells with the boys and girls in Blue and The Lilies waiting for them …Joe Wolfe used to “mind the bikes” at the railings of the Town Hall, Joe was a great auld character and always had the friendly word for everyone….every shop seemed to have hang sangwidges….the pubs would be leppin and there would be the odd skirmish about the town..I remember being at one game where we beat the Dubs..I was with my Da so it must have been prior to’56. Your “Home Place” was always great to visit. When I started “taking a bottle of stout” myself I’d drop in the odd time to ” Coffeys Clock” (despite it being the heart of “enemy territory”- Jimmy and Paddy would always extend the welcome hand) I suppose you’ll be up on Lunny’s Wall come Sunday now that you have good connections….
Christy,
This is an honored day, for a great man.
I wish to share these two links.
I am very glad you are well.
I look forward to these maybe new artists shining a light/ honoring your many stories of song.
They Killed Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. They assassinated this man wio had a
brilliant and articulate mind. They killed this man who was a brilliant, moral
and visionary leader. ( Though I do not sanction infidelity, this aspect of his
character does not diminish his greatness in my view.) They killed this
man who promoted Justice, Spirituality and Love for all in an inclusive
way. We then got: Nixon, Carter, Reagan, G. H.W. Bush, Clinton, G.W. Bush,
Obama. If we survive as a species, will future generations label these above
decades of Empire rule as the Dark Ages 2.0? http://www.democracynow.org/”
If the Liverpool Irish Festival happens this year, it would be good to see The Mairtin O’Connor Band, there with or without you.
Ideally one night with Declan and one with the band.
Logistics and cost might be difficult but…….
Loved Saturday’s show at The Bord Gais.
Thank you so much
See you soon
Dave
Christy's reply
sounds good Dave…I look forward to playing The Pool again..Thanks
I was taking a shifty at my boy Adam’s pics of you at the Gas Board gig. You looked flippin good. Obviously you didn’t rub the curry paste on your chest but whatever you did it’s done the trick. I am looking forward to you crossing the water but that’s a long way off so will breathe the air in between. I wished you’d come to see the Wombles take on the Red men. I was within lap sitting distance of King Kenny. The lads put in a show but in the end we bravely capitulated to The Mighty Gerrard. There is truth in the words You’ll Never Walk Alone. Xx
Christy's reply
as long as we are all in the game…The Wombles will be back….I enjoyed the return …now after some cracking gigs with the Trad Outfit I’m getting ready to play with Declan again..I love having the variety of different line-ups…..Kenny may be a bit of a songster himself…twas rumoured that he came to a Glasgow Gig but I cant verify that….You’ll never walk alone as sung by The Kop is an amazing sound…last time I went to Anfield the ref began the match during the song…I was shocked by this savage ignorance.I may never return
Congtatulations on a great concert last night in the Grand Canal and thanks a lot. good selection of tunes and the singing is better than ever. The band also added a nice bit of variety. Loved the references to the home county and what about the auld Honda 50. What a song and what a rendition ! Keep her going, Christy.
Christy's reply
good to hear from you Frankie…thanks for the feedback…were’nt we the cool altar boys..mind you, Paddy Cullen was a hard ringmaster…McNally liked the vino at the 7.30. I think he used to pray for larger cruets..then Jem Gorman trying to keep awake during his own sermons..The Mons ” its not my school, each and every one of your schools” was a good P.P. except when he was lorrying into the Irish Ropes striking workers from the Pulpit….maybe see you at the June fest , best wishes to all me old Townies….part of me never left !
Thanks for the latest “chat”….. and nice to hear the form is good again and the gigs are as strong as ever.
Intrigued by the mention of a “Knees-up” …look forward to more info on that one.
Keep well and we hope to get to Castlebar to kick off the gigs for 2015.
Christy's reply

Christy's reply
Thanks for sharing Sean..I know what you mean..I had a heart attack when I was 43…I believe today that it saved my life for it forced me to change my ways…I learned how to take detours around the “top shelf tack” and all the “other stuff”….I could never do it alone but, when I reached out, I discovered that I was not alone……glad you enjoyed last night’s fun
You were such a memorable part of my early years in Ireland. I saw you in concert many times. The first in Lahinch early on; but my personal favorite: The Rose Dome in Tralee, 1986. It was the most electric blast I’ve ever felt. Anyway, I keep my Christy album collection up to date even on this side of the world. The only thing missing is a tour from the big man himself. (I get a kick out of your Sausalito/Great American Music Hall extended story on the great 1964-2004 Box Set … I can only imagine the details not even mentioned! Anyway, it’s great to find this website.
Keep staying well! Glad your back fighting fit.

Good man Martin….greetings to all San Fran songsters….I’m playing tonight with Sheamie O’Dowd from Sligo…probably a connection of your own..he is a son of the late Joe O’Dowd who was at the centre of Sligo Music for decades..Sheamie has assumed that mantle and is now passing it on to his own family. I used to love playing in San Francisco….Ride On Martin
I came across your music about 1 year ago now and fell in love with it! Your are a true tallent! I have one question for you. Will you ever come across the pond to play here in Canada??
