No one knows my name in my home town.
Except for some auld friends
That’s still around
Walking by the church yard in the pouring rain
I wonder why nobody knows my name.
I recall not long ago when i was
The world ended past the piers in my old school.
But time has changed,I’ve remained the same,
I wonder why no body knows my name.
I took a stroll to kneel beside my parents grave.
I pray they know I’m here ,and why I came.
As I look around and see familiar names on the flags of stone.
I realise why no one knows I’m home .
Chorus
No one knows my name in my home town
Except for some auld friends that’s still around., walking by the old church in the pouring rain.I realised why no one knows I’m home.

Hi Christy,
Just listening to “This is the Day” on the Ronan Collins Show………….had almost forgotten what a beautiful song it is,,,,,,, Roll on the Dean Crowe on Thursday next, you will be on a Stage where amateur drama has prospered for many many Years. A big welcome awaits you in the middle of the Island, where the Shannon is radiant these Sunny days.
Curse and swear, Lord Kildare were appalling, bring back Pa.
Christy's reply
I think I was at the match the last time Carlow bet Kildare…I was 8, I think The Boiler came on in the second half to great furore ( he was making a comeback after retiring) but things only got worse…I think it was in Carlow
I heard a great song when we were living up on the plateau in Coolcullen… The Carlow Fifteen described how Carlow bet the Dubs in the 1938 Leinster Final
Christy,
Good Morning, I hope all is well!
I am a singer songwriter from Ireland. I am not sure if you can remember however i done a songwriting workshop with yourself at the age of 15 for Roddy Doyles Workshop “Fighting Words” a good couple of years ago.
I had gained several skills and great ideas from you that day and i am now on several different tours etc with well established irish artists.
I would love to have you listen to some of my latest material, however i had no way of emailing it to you, i also have a photo of us from many years ago at the roddy doyle workshop in which may refresh the image!
Hope all is well in the meantime and i do hope you can get back and i can send on some music!
Cheers

Hi C. Interesting to see the recent posts from Eric from Finland ( who was at the Castleblaney gig ) and Siew Yen ( who was at the Arklow gig with his family ) its no harm to add the Kingdom vote for an a capella album,,, I think it would be a great companion CD to your most recent CDs ” Where I Come From “and “On The Road “. Along with the ones you sang recently and some you have possibly shared in An Goilin over time and of course including Stitch in Time, sure you would have an album in no time !! Beir bua agus beannacht. H

“O The Town it climbs the Mountain and looks out o’er the Sea”
I really enjoyed hearing you sing on Saturday James Connolly Festival. I like to echo Eric’s request for a capella recording.
Christy's reply
I have been considering such a recording for many years …but never managed to see it through (so far !)….these encouraging comments may take me in that direction….
We are all bog born, Karine polwart from her latest, beautiful ,life and nature album.
Bog man to bog born.
I would encourage you to spend time from kildare over to the scottish borders on your way to the cities of scotland….we are one and the same , in music and in origin.
Christy's reply
we got to hear Karine twice this past year..two beautiful gigs…
spent some happy days in Peebles 50 years ago…caught eels in the River Tweed, played skittles with a one-time buddy…played in Peebles Folk Club..it was in an old fashioned hall….there was a lot of ale involved….I think Mike Whellans came from thereabouts…met him back then when he was playing with Aly Bain…Aly and I played snooker together and shared a few wee drams
Hello Christy , My name is Amy and Iam 17 years old . I know your getting a tone of comments about your music and seeking advice . However Iam a huge fan of you and your music, You have been my idol since I was a young one and the first song I ever learned to words to was city of Chicago . wondering how did you get to where you are now . I want to know , I know you have to make your own routes in singing careers but I just don’t know where to start .Big fan of the greats Luke Kelly, Mary black and many more , and the music means so much more I want to sing music and lyrics that mean something and touches us all . How do you do it Christy biyy , Cheers

Hello Amy,I heard The Clancy Bros when I was 16.I got my first guitar when I was 17 in 1962….I struggled daily to get a few chords together, I began to gather songs and sing at ballad sessions. One day I heard Liam Clancy singing at a Fleadh Ceol in Bunclody Co Wexford…it was a beautiful sunny Sunday afternoon, he was standing on the street singing “The Streams of Bunclody”…the atmosphere was exhilarating, thats the moment the seed was sown…. from that moment on I wanted to be a Folk singer…..55 years later the flame still burns… I still play every day, I’m still gathering songs, still learning, practicing, listening, enjoying,
I appreciate success and career but they are incidental to my primary purpose….. I just gotta sing..
many thanks for the tip about ‘the speech project’ cd. it is a beguiling piece of the art, a wonderfully basic collection of spoken words on irish music and culture ,set against beautiful music. i was especially taken by the tracks featuring margaret barry and shane mcgowan, and by featuring just these two pieces it shows how raw talent spans the decades without needing to find radical change…..sorry i sound like a pompous cravat wearing art critic ,rather than that no-frills sister who wandered the galleries of the world ,enthusing about paintings that genuinely moved her,on tv.
keep up the tips, musical or four legged ,Christy.
Christy's reply
The Margaret Barry track is so beautiful..I love Joe Cooley’s too….I greatly admire how Gerry Divers developed this concept…it took a lot of hardwork, passion and determination to achieve……
Some of my best friends were “pompous cravat-wearing art critics” but I now believe that their apparent pomp was misconstrued…..many of them lonely, unappreciated followers of the magic and the mystic..the only harm in them was hanging out of them…
I got on a lucky one, came in at 18/1
Hi Christy
I’m thankful to Easkey for his post as I was wondering the same thing.
At times I get the urge to jot down a few words that come to me. Sometimes they turn into a heartfelt poem and end up in my bedroom drawer.
I would love them to be turned into songs but I don’t know how to do that.
I think this latest one would be beautiful with a good time and a lovely Irish voice.
I know you must be swamped with songs so I don’t expect a miracle but here it is anyway…
Chorus)
I can see by your eyes you’ve been crying
I can tell by your mouth you are sad
I can see that your love for me’s dying
You were the best thing that I ever had.
On that first day that I saw you
I thought you looked to good to be true
Then we talked some and I got to know you
And I saw you were good through and through
You came into my life like a morning
Like the dawning of a new day
And my heart oh how you sent it soaring
Like the sun on a perfect June day
When we went for days out together
They were magical mystery tours
Oh the magic, the laughter, the pleasure
You were mine and I was yours
As we took further steps together
We sometimes lost our way
But I knew that I’d love you for ever
Thought I’d be with you come what may
Don’t understand what changed for you
But I saw it in your face
Wondered where we were going to
And I prayed it would be the same place
Oh my darling how it upset me
When I knew we’d be saying goodbyes
The thought that you could regret me
Sent the tears flooding into my eyes
I may never know the full story
Whether you had met somebody new
All I know is that I’m so sorry
I was sure that I was for you
Can you tell by my eyes I’ve been crying?
Can you see by my mouth I am sad?
Can you see that inside I’m dying?
You were the best thing that I never had.
Thanks for the opportunity to post it
Stay well.x

I know the effort that you make, all the trouble that you take, when you decide to come and see the show…
I love the way, as the gigs are happening, they disappear off the list (out the door and over the wall) and the upcoming ones move closer to the top. A bit like when I was in the tax office the other day and the numbers are ticking over and I’m looking at mine and glancing up at the digital screen. Waiting for my turn. Very exciting! Mind you, a Christy show is wee bit more enjoyable than a morning at the tax office. That would be a great review to recommend the shows. “Come to see Christy. He’s more entertaining than a morning at the tax office!” – Joe from the Basque Country. Anyway, it seems there’s an Athlone gig up next and then the two in Sligo! As Rory Gallagher sang, “Goin to my hometown. Don’t care even if I have to walk!” Up Shligo! Better get packing, I suppose. Where’s me pyjamas and toothbrush? Now, is it the Friday or the Saturday I’ve got the tickets for? Jayziss I don’t remember. Hup!

Dear Christy, I hope you are all well. I hope you had a good tour of the Ununited Kingdom. I’m sad I couldn’t go to any of them. I wanted to thank you for adding your voice to the Repeal vote. I worked a long time ago as non clinical staff at women’s health centre in Brixton South London. It made me very sad to see women far from home distraught and broken hearted having to undergo a termination feeling ashamed. Keep well. Xx

Enjoyed listening again, every song is special, I’ve the Gardener in three chords…I love the Lily, but the one that lifts me every time is ‘Lightning Bird, wind river man’ the playing is outstanding, reminded me of the great Ordinary Man LP that I had to get out a give a spin…again the musicianship throughout is just special…I love these songs,LPs..the lot…just sayin…have a great day.
