How are you keeping these days? Was the new roof and chimney due to magpies lodging in those areas?Were you on the M18 fós? I was on it heading to a funeral in Gort … ended up in a church of Ireland place Not in Gort and not a funeral but a wedding.. only figured it out when the bride came in .! Then found a funeral place (not the right one) that was a shed and not a sign of a person or a dog or even a bird. at this point google maps was abandoned .But I got to see Aontaine O Raffertys grave,in a grave yard for poets and wondered what that place was like when he was around.There must have been a lot of Irish speakers there one time.
My neighbor won a prize at the fair for his Connemara Pony ,he is so delighted he hasn’t come home yet! The Horse is named Winnie Johnny Rosaveel , She is now a real hero ! She is now in the field outside my room eating away for herself.

just packing up now to head up to County Antrim…hopin for a soft border ….never wanna go back to the old ways with Garda, Customs, British Army, UDR, RUC all delaying the journey…going from County Louth into County Down was a tiresome business…..young lads from England asking me where I came from…then on the way home in the dark you never knew who might be asking the questions….

Hello Christy! It was far more than worth it to travel from CA , across the the sea and the years (38 years, not 49, couldn’t wait THAT long!?) to see you and your excellent band this weekend. Fabulous shows! I was able to attend in Sligo and Cootehill, thanks to Hilary’s help.
You’re singing and playing better than ever. I had to pinch myself a few times to make sure I wasn’t dreaming, and that I really was back in Ireland at a Christy Moore concert. Someone may have noticed a woman in the front row, moved to tears. That was me. The song list, how it brought back so much for me, and then the acknowledgement, meant more than anyone could know. I’m infinitely grateful to you and your band, and the sweet gifts of music and song you so wonderfully deliver and share.

Good Morning! My wife and I “saw” you in concert (Dublin 2006) from a DVD player at Ned Natterjacks in Castlegregory. The owner felt bad that he had no live entertainment that night and as we were there on part of our 30th Anniversary trip to Ireland last Oct., he felt we’d enjoy your DVD of that concert. It really capped off the night for us having had a good meal, a “couple” of Iron Bridge Ales and the most excellent of company. We both really enjoyed your music and the way it seemed you connected with your audience, especially across the different age groups that seemed to be there. You have a great gift there and we loved your passion! My wife has since gotten me your live CD’s (@ Vicar St./The Point & Dublin 2006.) all OUTSTANDING and thank goodness for Amazon or I don’t think I would’ve have found them all.
I was wondering would you be willing to recommend a couple of your CD’s that might be of personal favorites of yours to add to my collection? Would be great should you ever come to Savannah, Ga. to our favorite Pub Kevin Berry’s (Which was awarded also last Oct. in Dublin best Irish Pub outside of Ireland in the World.)

a difficult question to answer….the most referenced studio album would be “Ride On” from 1985….”Prosperous’ from 1971 is still popular …..Last year’s “Lily” worked well for me personally….. I also played with Planxty and Moving Hearts, two bands that were popular in their time…I have a new live album due for release on Nov 17th this year….

My wife had made contact with you and explained I was the “young” lad in the Section 31 demo photo standing beside you in the “One Voice” book some years back. You kindly mentioned that and it was a nice touch after all these years later. And as for the show, wow, you certainly have not lost it Christy. I wonder do you remember the gig in the Grand in Malahide late 80s when the power went? You played acoustic in the middle of the room? I remember that night in Malahide clearly..I moved from the stage and stood on a table in the middle of the audience facing a different direction with every song…it was almost disappointing when the power came back…it broke the spell ..
Christy we’d the pleasure of seeing you play on the Southbank last month, and beforehand Id been too shy to ask you to play for me the song that Ive sung to my son since I first held him four years ago. I was a bit disappointed with myself thinking surely you wouldnt play it, of all the notes you know. When you started with Motherland I cried my eyes out, and again with Nancy Spain. Thankyou so much for such a beautiful evening, one ive waited ten years for. It was absolutely wonderful xxx

Congratulations on a great concert in the errigal last night, fair play to ye lads every moment was an enthralling show of timeless talent. Hope ye enjoyed it as much as we did! Thanks especially for singing the hackler of grousehall as id only heard it once before sung by yourself in the slieve russell and had meant to read up on the origin of the song. Today I did just that and realised (as you probably know) that the hackler was really a cootehill man !

The Hackler is a great old song….I have not sung once since that Slieve Russell gig yet it remains lodged in my memory ..
there was a second song I once heard which was the Sergeant’s side of the story !!….I’d need to don the blue tunic to sing that one…
had a lovely time in Cootehill….always great to find a new audience….I’m always struck by the unique beauty of County Cavan…there is no other county like it…… it has its own special atmosphere and humour ..used to play a lot of the Ballad Lounges there earlier on…Murtagh’s in Kingscourt, Tierworker, The Lawns in Belturbet was the first place I sang “Lisdoonvarna”, played The Lavey Inn years ago and lost my bodhrán which was a blessing for I got a much better one…Slieve Russell has been a good venue in recent years but I recall a great night in The Hall in Ballinagh in the 80s, Hotel Kilmore was a regular stop back then and I’think I played Cabra Castle once bit I’m not certain…The Park in Virginia used to host gigs way back…The late Dermot Healy used to show up for banter…meeting Dermot was always a treat

I must confess that I have not yet listened to the CD …its been a hectic time here a new album to finish,rehearsals,gigs plus getting a new roof and chimney on the house which caused upheaval to all routine..
soon as I get this album sorted I hope to listen to the backlog of songs that many have shared with me
I played Salzburg over 30 years ago…good to know that you are still composing..still walking the hills…..its 36 years now since you sang “Irish Ways Irish Laws” into my ear in a very crowded noisy Baggot Inn after a Moving Hearts gig. It was a great song to sing and play and I have special memories of recording it on the first Hearts album….must get it out again and have a listen…just singing it in my head here reminds me of a the later Ewan MacColl song “Green Island”, one of the last songs he wrote

thanks for your feedback on the sound…we have a very dedicated crew who spend many hours getting the equipment set up before every gig….
it was a big event for us too….every gig gets the full treatment, big or small, Village Pub or Musikhalle
Dont know how many gigs we got left to do….after 52 years I’m closer to the last gig then the first one
BUT, that said, we’re gonna give it all we got as long as the tour lasts…we’re gonna bop til we drop….rock the folk out of it ’til we cross the line

Spellbinding gig in Rosses Point last night. What a gathering of pure class on stage. I had Gers brother Liam with me last night. Been a while since he made it to one of your shows ( jacksons hotel in Ballybofey a good few years back ).. . He couldn’t believe the energy and musical genius that was on display. He also commented on the sound quality in that big room .

Sligo has always been a gig town but Rosses Point last night would take some batin..between Mary O’Hara, Joe O’Dowd,Nervous Animals,The McGlynns, Pumpkinhead, Midnight Well, Dervish, Steve Wickham,SEAMIE O’DOWD, Sandy Kelly, Weshtlife, its always been a music hotspot….great to have spotted Seamie on Ray McSharry Way yesterday ( a grand straight bit of a road)….
just after a grand spin thru Glencar, Blacklion,Laragh and Drung to Cootehill…a new venue in a new town for me…seldom hit a new town these days..after all the years I have many of them covered…this is a grand spot here among the rolling hills of Cavan..must try and dig out “The Hackler from Grouse Hall” before 8 o’clock tonight..
it was a good call last night for Mickey Mac but what about thon lad down the hall lookin for Leonard Cohen !!!

Travelling about Nova Scotia for a bit. Could picture ye singing here. Enjoying the distant similarities to home. There’s a few more whales & puffins, a bit less stonework & late nights, but lovin’ here when the sun is up, even if it’s through the rain…. A bit more siding & a bit less stonework. The songs have similarities, but they seem to be more based on ‘love’ rather than ‘loss’. To be honest, the songs of loss move me, the songs about love are mostly lost on me. That’s not to say that there isn’t love in my life. Hope to get home again soon. Enjoying it here. Keep well Christy, Dylan

it was a big event for us too….every gig gets the full treatment, big or small, Village Pub or Musikhalle
Dont know how many gigs we got left to do….after 52 years I’m closer to the last gig then the first one
BUT, that said, we’re gonna give it all we got as long as the tour lasts…we’re gonna bop til we drop….rock the folk out of it ’til we cross the line

Spellbinding gig in Rosses Point last night. What a gathering of pure class on stage. I had Gers brother Liam with me last night. Been a while since he made it to one of your shows ( jacksons hotel in Ballybofey a good few years back ).. . He couldn’t believe the energy and musical genius that was on display. He also commented on the sound quality in that big room .

Sligo has always been a gig town but Rosses Point last night would take some batin..between Mary O’Hara, Joe O’Dowd,Nervous Animals,The McGlynns, Pumpkinhead, Midnight Well, Dervish, Steve Wickham,SEAMIE O’DOWD, Sandy Kelly, Weshtlife, its always been a music hotspot….great to have spotted Seamie on Ray McSharry Way yesterday ( a grand straight bit of a road)….
just after a grand spin thru Glencar, Blacklion,Laragh and Drung to Cootehill…a new venue in a new town for me…seldom hit a new town these days..after all the years I have many of them covered…this is a grand spot here among the rolling hills of Cavan..must try and dig out “The Hackler from Grouse Hall” before 8 o’clock tonight..
it was a good call last night for Mickey Mac but what about thon lad down the hall lookin for Leonard Cohen !!!

Thank you for another special night in Sligo. Really enjoyed the new song and it will bring the house down in the Waterfront. Loved hearing Johnny Jump Up again too. Wonderful playing from the guys as well- some talent on that stage. Great to catch up with some 4711ers and to see the reaction of some first timers too. Travelling about Nova Scotia for a bit. Could picture ye singing here. Enjoying the distant similarities to home. There’s a few more whales & puffins, a bit less stonework & late nights, but lovin’ here when the sun is up, even if it’s through the rain…. A bit more siding & a bit less stonework. The songs have similarities, but they seem to be more based on ‘love’ rather than ‘loss’. To be honest, the songs of loss move me, the songs about love are mostly lost on me. That’s not to say that there isn’t love in my life. Hope to get home again soon. Enjoying it here. Keep well Christy, Dylan
