Thanks for a great gig on Friday night in Charlaville.A lovely venue and a great crowed. As usual ye played a blinder. The bright blue rose was super. Thanks again Christy. David Madden
Thats right Christy it was Sean O’Dowds back then. Ronan’s been a little sick yesterday Had him at the Dr. Hasn’t stopped him singing and reenacting your gig though.
Hi Christy, thank you for making Ronan’s first Christy Moore concert in The Charleville Park Hotel last night so memorable. You sang His favourite song and also mine. He will treasure the photo and your plectrum. His Dad and I have played your music to him since he was a baby so you could say he grew up on your music. Also for me the very first time I heard you play was in Madonnas in Charleville in 1987 I think. My friend Jackie who died very shortly after that gig in a car accident loved your music and we sang Ride On at his funeral so it’s always had a special place in my heart. Thanks for the memories and look forward to seeing you again real soon. Last nights concert was fantastic with you Declan and the lads. Your in appreciation an old fan Noreen and maybe your youngest fan Ronan
Christy's reply
Ronan’s presence brought joy to the gig. Please give him my best wishes.
I think I remember “Madonna’s” Night Club. Was Sean O’Dowd of Ding A Ling creator?
Back then I played in many night clubs around the country where the cabaret act would do a turn before the disco
“from Berlin to San Francisco,I played before the Disco

Hello dear Christy,
Hope this finds you well. I loved to read your new long Chat – as always it is so interesting and entertaining as well. Many thanks for letting us share in your experiences, thought and reflection!
A real pleasure to hear about your impressions of the gigs, especially because we cannot attend as many as we would like to. (But there’s hope for a returning when springtime comes.) I like the wee story of your visit to Inis Oírr. Just read again the book “The Humours of Planxty” a few weeks ago and I remember the funny description of Planxty’s journey to the Aran Islands by a lobster boat … So this time I think you didn’t have to use a donkey and cart for transport!
Glad your last night’s gig of the “4 Piece Band” went so well, I’m sure you created a wonderful sound together with multi-instrumentalist Seamie.
Have a great time in Waterford (I know you feel a special affection for that city)!
Best wishes, Traudel

Two good nights. A beautiful drive yesterday from Charleville thru Buttevant, Kildorrery,Mitchelstown,Clonmel, Carrick-on-Suir, Mooncoin and into Waterford. A solid gig last night (Hilary thought Friday was better) and then a frosty drive to wake up at home for Mother’s Day….
the next album will be delayed…I need to re-record two songs…some others need slight tweaking…..
I know more people read, and love the chats than reflects maybe, but not everyone is a correspondent, so just to let ye know that they are hugely popular, and for me, I’m always brought right back to a gig you mention, or a place…and for the ones I haven’t been at, your descriptions take us there too….they are fantastic.
A flyin visit from the mot from the Bay here to Rock before she headed to Ennis…good fun, if all too short…
Ye might do a song with The Boss in Croker in May…
Wally Page is out again this coming Friday, 11th March in the usual venue, The Annesleey house, North strand Road, with Johnny Mulhearn and his new Gretsch.
Hope all is great, and looking forward to the new Album, and the documentary…Gerrup

Larboy…good to hear from you..hope all is well in The Rock this fine Spring morn…we had a good one last night here in Rathlúirc, in the hemisphere of Northern Cork. Great listneners and chanters with 4711ers well represented in the front row. Seamie O’Dowd joined Decky Jimmy and I for a first outing of this 4 piece. He played fiddle, mandolin, harmonica and guitar as well as adding his gravelly Sligo intonations to our 4 part vocals. Decky has a new gadget on the Fender..there were sparks flyin betimes..who is this Boss you refer to in Croker?..are you referring to the first round of the Leinster Championship ? Glad to hear that our Chilean Ambassador visited you in the clinic
Johnny Mul on a Gretsch..that’ll get the Mighty Waldo very excited.. hope the residents of North Strand dont do a Garth Brooks (The Hungry Bollocks) on Annesley ..are you togging off for Rihanna?…I gather you are a fan (on the sly)…any way Lar..gotta pack the mála for Waterford now and head for Coolnacupogue

Hi Christy, the man for the ‘station of knocklong’ is Willie Grady(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xW73Bo2kmps). A rare treat. Enjoy the C park tonight. Called in earlier on the off chance but no cigar. Last time I was in that room was for the people’s debate fiasco when the fellow proclaimed that he didn’t want to see men and women getting married! Howls of laughter derision and disillusion abounded. (Oh Baltimore ain’t hard just to live)
I am sure the mood will be a little less angry and a little more lovely tonight.

Charleville was lovely tonight…such a room full of songsters, harmonizers, good vibers…good supper, bit of a chat with the Band…the Healy-Raes on The Late Late, into the PJs, 3 ourfathers 3 hailmarys and Waterford next
Hi Christy
Admittedly,’Semi official’ was a strange description of Dylan’s forthcoming album, but it seems an odd project…the release seems to be the official bootleg 1964 acoustic sets,re mixed by Dylan’s ‘people’ but on a different label. An odd one, but,no doubt ,interesting.
I agree you about his archive and ‘Theme Time Radio Hour’.I’ve worked through quite a few of my home recorded cassettes of shows and a few bootleg CDs that I found in a basement shop on Wicklow St (sadly ,closed these days)The musical content is astounding but I’m regularly amused and impressed by Dylan’s wry, comic timing.
Also,I hope there’ll be ‘Chronicles 2’ published sometime. The original is such a riveting read.Where would we be without him?
Thanks for the response. I shall get nailing Missing You.
I have never sung onstage in Sark but they have a fantastic Folk Festival over there every year in early July which sells out in hours. http://2016.sarkfolkfestival.com I shall be there with the clan again this year as a spectator. It’s a lovely atmosphere. I did do a turn in Alderney way back in 1999 when we went for the solar eclipse. It got total blackout, compared to Guernsey’s 97%. I did a few songs whilst the house band took a break. I’m sure one was Black is the Colour which seemed apt given the circumstances.
Hello Christy. Greetings from Guernsey. Myself and my musical comerade did our three songs lastnight at Folk Club. Amsterdam and Viva La Quinta bookended Neil Young’s Old Ways. All were well received. Viva may have caused a few to shuffle uncomfortably in their seats given the relationship between the older Guernsey generation and the Nazi’s. The Channel Ilds being the only German Occupied part of the UK during WW2 as we belted out about sailing beneath the swastika to Spain. Thankfully Guy gave a good historical introduction beforehand. Next time I am thinking about Missing You and was just wondering about the line “Your best mate’s a spade and he carries a hod”. Could you perhaps give your interpretation of it’s meaning and could people take offence? I have always loved the song and it’s emotion and imagery. Thanks. Paul
Christy's reply
well done Paul..glad you made the collaborators wriggle in their seats…..Jimmy Mac’s “Missing You” is a classic song….I have never asked him to interpret any of his lyrics…I’m happy enough just to sing them, to experience the pictures that unfold as the song passes through me…in 30 years singing this song I have not encountered anyone who took offence at that line…but should someone take offence it would be their problem, not mine….you have to decide for yourself here Corky…best of luck
have you ever sung on Sark ?
Thanks for mentioning my article on “Listen” in your Chat, Christy. I means a lot to know that someone you write about actually has read your stuff, and appreciated it. I hope to see you in concert before too long and maybe shake your hand and thank you in person!

Thanks for a lovely ‘chat’.Fantastic for all of us to know how the creative fire still burns as you reflect the music passion that drives you on.Personally,it was great to see you play in Buxton.Several years ago, there was a thread here about The Opera House and how it was your intention to gig there, whenever possible. To witness this come to fruition and to hear how it linked into many ’60s folk club gigs in the area was powerful.
Also, for you to encourage so much interaction with fans is,in my experience, unique and always appreciated.A perfect example being Maryline’s Guestbook link to the NY Times,Dylan archive article. Many thanks for that, its a fantastic read. For you,and many of us here,i’m sure,Dylan is a tour de force, especially the quality of his early work..Always fascinating to see photos of young Bob hammering the typewriter keys and now to see his notebooks.Wow.A semi official bootleg re remix of his 1964 period, due later this month too.
Really looking forward to your new album soon and great to know that your sixth decade on the road still takes you to new pastures.

Well, well, well Christy. I will see you in Gorey next week. The first time since 1990 or 1991 when you last played Toronto. I am so looking forward to it. The strange thing is I am bringing a 22 year old fan who has never seen you but loves your music as much as I do. I guess when you grow up surrounded by music and song its bound to sink in. I’m pretty sure your set list is done but if you could see your way clear to sing ” Casey ” she would be thrilled. Yes you guessed it her name is Casey. No big deal either way, dying to see the show.

Thanks for another wonderful Chat…..Its a lovely summary of the past number of Months. I have to agree with your comments on Barrowlands,,it was musical and Mad all at the same time. Dear Christy LIBMT on the tap again! we are trying to organise a festival in Madrid next February to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of the beginning of the Spanish Civil War and the heroic role played by the International brigades in that conflict. We traditionally walk the Jarama battlefield on the weekend of 18th -21st of that month and have decided to organise a festival in the town of Rivas just out side the city.Andy Irvine our patron will be coming, possibly Glen hansard -along with others.Would you consider coming for a small fee? all fund raised will go to help build an interpretive centre near the battlefield which would help the local economy enormously and remember these brave men and women. regards Ger McCloskey
Hope it’s not too Off Topic but the bags collectors and the memorabilia cherishers will appreciate the link I’m sure.
