Hi Christy!!!! Been flat out with work and gigging!!!! Apologies for the lack of contact. Myself and a good friend are running a gig on the 1st of April in Benedict’s Night Club Enniscorthy. In aid of Focus Ireland. With the run up to the election, I think it is a prevalent issue and the fact that we have seen people die and have children out on the streets is appalling. Any help, useful tips would be greatly appreciated….

How are ya Christy, hope you’re well. I was speaking to you once a long time ago after a gig with Declan Sinnott, I think it was in Mountmellick. Myself & the other half are getting married next September. Is there any chance at all that you might be able to come and do a song or two for us? My hubby to be would trip up over himself with the absolute delight if it could be arranged. It would make both of our day, and whole life! So for that alone, it’s worth asking. See you in Drogheda in a few weeks. <3

Hi Christy,
Hope you’re well. My friend Caoimhe is 21 in a few days. She has been to a lot of your gigs around Ireland. We are from Kildare and we listen to your CD every week when we are travelling from Kildare to college in Cork. She’s a huge fan of yours. I was wondering if you could wish her a happy birthday, it would make her day! Thanks a million.

Happy Birthday Caoimhe….Let the music keep your spirits high.

Morning.
Spooky old world out there Christy. Yesterday evening on facebook a friend of mine shared a photograph taken by a guy called Steve baker. It was of the funeral of a gentleman whom I’d never heard of called Colin Vearncombe aka Black. A bell was ringing. With curiosity I looked up this guy and…. well. How sad. Packed a lot into his life with what seems abundant humility. I’m sure it would have been a privilege to have known him.
Best Wishes

As you know, music can take one on a journey of many emotions. Your music and your wonderful voice often takes my mind and soul to a place I wish my body stood. Thank you for taking me to that place from time to time.
Someday I will return to Ireland and I hope at attending one of your concerts. In the meantime consider a tour of Atlantic Canada, you would have a fantastic time.

Hi Christy
Very sorry to read about the loss of your friend.Always difficult times.
Looking at the on line CD covers of the forthcoming Topic London/Irish releases,I see they are the work of Reg Hall.I only know the man by reputation, and that’s an impressive one.As a semi pro musician and behind the scenes maestro,Reg has been a stalwart of Irish and UK trad based folk for many years. You may well have come across him,I guess. He’ll have made a very thorough job of the releases and very likely played on some tracks.
Thinking of the likes of Reg Hall, reminded me of Lancashire/Manchester based, the late Harry Boardman. He did loads to preserve and publicise local trad songs and wrote in a similar style. It’s great that the Reg’s and Harry’s of this world, plus many others have done so much to keep the pots boiling (as it were).
I just Googled two local organisations and both have interesting info about current projects.
FolkNorthwest….a great source for gigs and artists in North west England (with a great archive piece on Mr Boardman)
Manchester District Music Archive……carrying an ad for a Manchester charity concert on 18/5/16….featuring all the songs played by Dylan at the ‘Judas’,Free Trade Hall gig in May 1966! Asking for artists to volunteer for the gig. That’s my next job.I know a duo who could have a crack at it…..!
Hope the recording is going well.Have a good day.

The problem as I see it Frank is a paper which allows and slaps up (2) two-year-old articles online as ‘news’, I wont take anything seriously off their website as ‘news’ for a wee while, unless I look first (carefully) at the date.
I see a strange looking sales pitch post has been removed from here, I saw a website once with a discussion page and those ‘sales pitches’ took over the website.
Teach me not to believe all I read in the papers Ed. They once wrote the sun would be shining all day in Oldham. Never feckin happened yet. The nearest we get to an Indian summer is 8 pints of Guinness and a vindaloo. The grim reaper is taking some beating the last few weeks with the likes of Bowie, Frey etc. Speaking of which, has anyone seen your man knocking about lately.

That’s interesting Dagrab re: Topic Records that someone somewhere chronicled (and recorded) some music of the great trad Irish music scene in England of the 50s and which endured into the sixties and itself meeting the folk music boom. We’re still benefitting from it. The music was ironicaly near enough dying out at home here at that stage.
I see someone posting here got caught out as I myself did last week; Frank, West of the Pennines, that Irish Times piece on Luke Kelly is TWO YEARS old. Amazing performance by the paper than can go by ‘the paper of record’.
Coincidentally I see a mention of ‘Sweet Thames’ in another post – see an earlier post by myself that I mention McColl’s track.

Two x 3CD releases in ‘The voice of the People’ series. Both focused on the music of Irish people in London.
‘It was mighty!’,featuring 1950’s musicians, mainly from rural Ireland who settled in London after WW2.
