fáilte arais…thats great news about Tralee..its been far too long…I think the last gig there was about 10 years ago in The Brandon ,dont know what happened since…we’ll have to go to Knocknagoshel for the spuds
Have been going to your concerts since 1974 with Plantxy in University of Ulster . You were absolutely brilliant tonight
But why did you decide you needed to use the flags issue to get the biggest support !
As you are well aware this is not an easy issue up here . Some one of your standing could have , sensibly , tried to belitte it . Instead you chose to use it to get applause
As a proud Catholic Northern Ireland person ( who was with Jocker in Stuggart and with Northern in Spain in 1982), I have great problem when some-one with your ability decides to ” market ” themselves on an issue than is basically nothing to do with human rights .
Having worked in Africa for 4 years , flags are irrelevant
Ultimately I am surprised . I now think/ wonder if you just sing all the other songs for financial benefit .
Only you can decide.
I am just disappointed at your unwillingness/insensitivity to members of the other community .
Believe or not , as someone who knows the people here decency rather than populism may be better.
I am real sorry to have to send an email such as this to you but I still cannot understand why some-one with you ability had to use a ” flags” song to get a response.
good luk

Thanks Martyn…..I understand your discomfort…..I used my platform tonight to poke fun at the nonsense of all this flag shite…….I drive through parts of Ireland festooned in Union Jacks, I have to accept that….someone runs a Tricolour up the pole for 5 minutes over Stormont and there is total meltdown………unwillingness, insensitivity, thats your call and I dont have a problem with you writing it here…. all my public performances are for the financial benefit of myself, the band, road crew (who do sound, lighting, staging, transport, catering, accomodation) of management, promoter, venue staff, Inland Revenue, security, advertising, Sundry items (instruments and maintainance, stylist, botox, coiff and couture, maintainance of this site for the likes of yourself and myself )…thankfully its all going well…we played 28 songs last night…..song 21 had one throwaway verse which ranted….” who put The Tricolour flying up the pole” ……the meltdown continues….lighten up Martyn….there does be some great auld crack in Africa…..good luck to you too

Brilliant interview on Cork Radio this week, dear Christy! Thanks to Colm’s post on 4711ers.org I was able to listen to and enjoyed it very much. Just beautiful to hear your new songs “Ballad of Patrick Murphy” and “Mandolin Mountain” with only your voice and guitar, sounded very well in the studio.
Hope you’ll have a happy time in the sweet town of Derry!
Best wishes, Traudel

Well youth is good, it has it’s ups and downs of course. With some amazing souls, it matters not the age that they are. Sometimes the music can even get better with age.
With that as a preface, I very much like/love Linda Waterfall’s work / music. She is ageing now. I will advise, catch her earlier stuff. Anyway, here she is, at a more advanced age. In this piece she shares all the Spirit that I have loved so much in her music. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iekHv5UtwvE

Well Christy, I hope you are having great fun with all the summer festivals. I am retiring in 2 and a half months. Next year I will make it to Ireland and hope to catch one of your concerts. This video is for you and all of the blessed musicians we are so very grateful for. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uUocOrjeZk0

Hope all is well and the bags are packed for music city in the maiden city. They’re jetting in from all exotic locations – jeez Siobhan and Mary are even flying in from Tyrone with hopes of hearing Nancy Spain. At least they’ll have Cathal for moral support. Safe travels anyway and looking forward to a couple of great gigs.

there could be turbulence in the air between Tyrone and Derry..I hope them two girls have a good landing
How yeah Christy hope all is well with you and hope you have a mighty time in the walled city, just letting you know we started back in O Connor’s in Salthill this week so I’ll be keeping an eye out for the torch used when the power went during the gig in CJ’s and you sang on, was talking to Benny O Connor on Tuesday night he is in flying form, there’ll be a lot of your songs sang in the next two months , face the puck out
Christy's reply
next time I’m out West I’ll check in…tell Benny I was askin for him…ask him has he still got that scrum cap I lent him
Have seen you live Christy now 2 dozen times or more dating back to an Ulster Hall gig in the mid 90’s – through Andersonstown Leisure Centre, Slieve Donard, Electric Picnic (that was a good one, Ed Sheeran next door didnt get a look in!) and Waterfront each time, since youve been back on the road. This time however, you seem to like the Friday and Saturday nights which has meant i havent been able to get off work to take in a gig!
I work in PA and sure as hell Jonnie Meade who loaned us some speakers are needing returned on Friday to the Millenium Forum for your gig, and sure thats just teasing me to because i cant stay for the show! Thought about pulling a sicky at work until the boss said the wife treated him to a ticket in Derry at Christmas! So i think the Gods of fate are working against me and i wont get to see you this time around!
Hopefully ill get a show at the Waterfront next time around!
Peace and Love!

Hi Christy ur a hero of mine not only because of your music but because you are my fathers idol.. However he has been living by the bottle and I’m afraid I’m losing him. I know it’s a long shot but could you send him a message? I understand your busy but it would mean the world to him and me also .. thank you Christy
Hello mr Moore! I’m sure you’re being asked questions like this all the time, but I’m gonna go for it anyway – is there any possibility that you will come and play in any of the Scandinavian countries, more specifically Sweden? (and preferably on the west coast, but hey.. can’t be too particular..) I would be over the moon if I got a chance to attend one of your concerts!
Thanks a bunch (in advance)!
Take care!
Christy's reply
Sabina….greetings to you and thank you for your question….I have never played in your Country…over the years I have played concerts in Norway,Finland and Denmark but never in Sweden. In earlier times I might have jumped at the chance had it come my way.
I have not seen you live for some 30 years and I was not disappointed. I was unable to get to see you when you played Cambridge- so I was thrilled that you were playing in Dungannon whilst I was visiting family in Northern Ireland. Lots of my favourite songs, especially the Honda song, so glad to see others as equally tickled as me!
Thank you and keep gigging!
Christy's reply
Twice in 30 years Jack, fair play to you…good to have you back on board…that old Honda 50 is a classy song…some of the Trad heads dont like it…find it maybe a tad too popular for their liking, but they have plenty of big Trad songs to keep them going…I like Tom Tuohy’s creations..he has a good take on the rural aspect…..he has written a splendid song about flies, bees, spider’s and horse shite…and another one about eggs,… boiled eggs, fried eggs, poached eggs, scrambled eggs…Tom surely is Kildare’s Beckett of The Boghole…I have suggested he be conferred as The Shortgrass Laureate, we may need to coax him back out of Europe where he is currently ensconsced in Vienna Vaduz or Valpariso..he is working on a Bog Opera in which I’m hoping to play the lead Bass-Baritone…maybe with a few castratos on the side….see you in 2045 Jack
Hi Christy! I just wanted to say thanks for your gig in Dungannon on Friday night. My English husband and I flew back to my home town just for it, and you didn’t disappoint. I’ve seen you live once before (at Warwick Arts Centre in 2006) but my husband hadn’t, and he loved it. You put on a great show and it was a pleasure especially to hear you sing my favourite of your songs, Nancy Spain. Thanks for a great and very emotional night. You were worth the flight 🙂

Hi Christy
Some ramblings about music-old and new………Two weeks ago ,it was a brilliant start to a weekend in Ireland to hear an uplifting Friday lunchtime session in O’ Donoghue’s.The back room was packed with more musicians and singers than punters…….next day in contrast,in the mud at Lord Henry’s annual knees up,fantastic to see and hear The Strypes from Cavan, rocking out (with musical nods to Rory, who is fondly remembered as I prod the keyboard)…….
Great to meet up with my Slane family and play a newly acquired CD of ‘Iron Behind The Velvet’,last heard on a wobbly cassette in the 80s……it evoked memories of you and Gabriel Mc Keon playing in Slane House pub in the late 70s.
Having recently repaired my record deck, since returning home,I’ve resumed the raids on Altrincham’s charity shops……..successes include pristine vinyl copies of ‘Words and Music’,’The Brendan Voyage’,’Cold Blow and the Rainy Night’ and yesterday’s gems…….LPs by Peter ,Paul and Mary (500 Miles is a killer song)and Tom Rush…….’No Regrets’ sounding as sweet as ever……..thanks for your numerous contributions to my archive (a posh word for clutter…..) and I’m hoping to see /hear the new lineup, sooner rather than later. All good wishes, amigo…….keep on keepin’ on……
