Hello Christy
Glad to see you are making a recovery from the wretched chest infection. Sympathies as I’m laid up with it too. Knocks you for 6! Take your time to get well again please. Looking forward to seeing you in Cambridge at the Corn Exchange in May and bringing my sister and brother in law to convert them to your music ( my sisters a Fairport fan but she can grow!!) their daughter is hoping to bring her Dublin boyfriend too so a play of the voyage will make our evening. So looking forward to this – first entry in my new diary. Make a good recovery and very best wished for the coming year to you and yours
I was wandering around your lyrics pages last night, guitar in hand, having a go at a few songs. I noticed in the further info section of one song, you were looking for “Windy Old Edinburgh Town” – no doubt you probably have it by now, but if not, you’ll find it here on this link http://www.goilin.com/fhf/2013_singing_and_walking_tour_booklet.pdf , it starts on page 6…..
I hope you’re on the mend and aytin proper again…..keep it between the ditches horse…..let the music keep your spirits high…..

Thanks for this….I remember Bob Cooney singing this for me in 1967 after my first Birmingham gig in the legendery Skillet Pot Folk Club. There I also heard the host ,Michael Hipkiss, sing “Barr na Sráide” and “Come by The Hill”. My first time to hear either of those songs.Other singers that night were Tommy Dempsey, John Swift and Dave Phillips. Other clubs at the time included The Munstermen’s club and Ian &Lorna Cambells club, then the biggest Folk Club in Britain.
……on the mend here Thanks Be…still not up and about
Christy,
I hope this finds you in better health and well on the road to recovery. I am coming out of a nasty bout of the same thing which landed me in ospidéal until Christmas Eve – still shaky on the pins so I can’t imagine you’d be able to take on a big gig until the New Year.
Anyone who knows of your commitment to entertaining your audiences will only be concerned that you get better, and that it won’t be long before you’re back on the road again.
Get better a chara and a Happy New Year to you and yours…

Get well soon dear Christy but take your time to recover. Don’t jump back on the stage to soon! I know it’s very difficult for men to be sick but it’s very important to be fully recovered so you don’t have a dicline.
Anyway we come probably to the gig in Cork in July so you have months of time 🙂
Loads of best wishes for you, your family and the crew but most important for everybody
“A good health ”
Snowy greetings Chris
Hi Christy….very sorry to hear you’re not well….I’m writing Ron Hynes’ biography….authorized and would love to have the opportunity of talking of e-mailing when you are up to it….at the centre of this of course is Sonny’s Dream and your amazing rendition of this tune of Ron’s.
Cheers,
Harv
You never let anyone down Christy your fans know that. No one can help being sick – it’s a flesh and blood thing… We all love you and wish you better.
Merry Christmas, Anna
Awful reading your news about a ‘severe throat infection’ Christy! I am sure we are all praying for a full recovery and a very well-deserved rest for your magic voice until you are back to full health. Much love to you all xxxxx
Just wanted to say hello and thank you. My sister and I listened to you as part of Moving Hearts in Ennis back in 1981 – perhaps it was ’79 – and she still remembers a lyric that I was supposed to quote to you to remind you of the time but I have forgotten, sorry, and so I wanted to say hello from us. I have seen you since, with and without my Dad – Patrick Paul – she has not but we shared that gig as kids and it was a great craic and we treasure it truly; especially now. And thank you because you have helped my father-in-law. A great fan of Scottish folk, he had not heard you or your work – though I am sure I had boasted about you over the past 25 years! – until he listened to his son’s collection of your CDs. He has become an instant fan and found great consolation from your lyrics (Missing You) and it has been a great consolation to him during serious illness and bereavement. Though his first love is still Mr Knopfler, you have made a man cry and a woman very grateful for the gift of your voice, your guitar, your heart, your soul; and the music in you. I am looking to write a letter but have no address so while I am searching for a way I thought I would just say hi and thanks. And I wish you better, great heart, and all things well.
It’s been a while! Fond memories of, inter alia, a lift back to Letterkenny (for Creeslough) from Glenties,Stark’s Park with Josh (Raith Rovers v Celtic), Melbourne, and a tape of The Boy From Tamlaghtduff. Take care, me friend-Jim
Hi Christy
I truly hope and pray that you are continuing to improve and that you’re breathing easier.
You’ve been my hero and I’ve loved you ever since I was nineteen and heard ‘Ride on’ on the radio in the factory I worked at in Shannon.
I felt absolutely blessed when I got to speak to you outside the Philharmonic Hall in 2010 and then again in 2012 and had photos taken with you.
Wherever I am today and over Christmas time and whoever I’m talking to, I’ll be ‘ turning my face away and dreaming about you’ and hoping you’re doing OK.
God bless you and Happy Christmas and New Year to you
Love Gail x
Hi All. I am actually pleased to hear that Christy is taking good care of himself and not now gigging until 2015…..of course I am also disappointed but that is a small thing compared to the prospect of Christy returning to work too soon. The most important thing in all this is regaining full health, le cunamh Dé… for those in Dublin around New Year there are a whole host of options check out http://www.nyfdublin.com for a very comprehensive listing,,,, as well as all the informal sessions and amusements available in the Capital. Beir bua agus beannacht. H
Silly memories to let you know my names -I’m Jackie and I’ll be there with Rynn, Jill and Ian and hopefully Fiona And Sean
