Until I heard Gerry Diver’s brilliant work,I didn’t know much about Margaret Barry.. after hearing her voice,I went online for more info, but didn’t find much ..Fantastic to read posts from Magaret’s family here…and a quick Google search now shows up some excellent articles and items. I’m sure there’s lots of interest for readers here…
Have a great gig…I’ll be with you in spirit…in body I’ll be with Woody Guthrie C/o a gig by Reg Meuross. At the Stoller Hall, very close to the site of the MSG…
I remember that guy in the Clanree missing the point on Londonderry in On the Mainland too. The power of words indeed. Sad to hear of the passing of Sunny Jacobs in Connemara this week- another victim of a miscarriage of justice . Was great hearing Scapegoats on Monday. Sad how so many suffered. Saw Don Wycherleys play about Paddy Armstrong a month or two ago- an excellent show and hoping to see it again in October. Paddy was chatting with Miriam on Sunday- such a forgiving man. I hope you have a good day around the walls, and looking forward to tonight’s show . Keep well .
Christy i heard a very different version of 2 island swans on Ronnie Drew’s The Humour album, that such a song can have several different versions shows the variety of music.
Though i have yet to hear anyone else ask if there was Anyone for the last few choc ices!

Paul Weller has just recorded a version of “Two Island Swans” on his latest album “Find El Dorado”
I first heard this song in 1972. Planxty were rehearsing in Nicky Ryan’s flat.
We took a break (for tea and marmite on toast)
Nicky put on a Mountain album.
In the workroom I’ve started to play this beautiful song again.
It has a particular, specific unique beauty
Maybe I’ll take a chance and sing it tonight …….
The wife and me are heading up to the millennium forum tomorrow night and we cant wait.
Any chance you could play our wedding song ‘the voyage’ in your set – if you get time. Be amazing if you could.
We booked online today to see you in the Great Northern in Bundoran as well in October. Another classic Irish location, love Bundoran and great memories down there over the years.
Hi Christy myself and my wife are coming over from Scotland tomorrow to take in your gig in Derry,we have seen you many times in Scotland but not over the water. Its my wife’s birthday on Thursday would it be possible to request ‘only our rivers run free’ for her.
Christy's reply
might you share the good woman’s name Heston…safe journey to you both
On Beeswing , the ball was almost over the line…..
Matty did appear and getting called Mickey didn’t do him any harm at all.
I do remember when On the Mainland first began to appear on the set a few years back a chap getting most upset on hearing the words Londonderry…. so much so that he didn’t get to hear the story completed and so missed the real message of the poetry in motion……think it was in the Clanree Hotel in Letterkenny.
You do Wally proud on each of his songs and keep his legacy alive for all.
Christy's reply
many years ago in Manchester an audient went apoplectic at Lakes of Pontchartrain
in the Roundhouse London a man lost his sanity when I sang of Christian Brother’s in “Ballrooms of Romance” (aka All I remember)
in USA ” Hey Ronnie Reagan” did the trick in Virginia
one night a right prick criticized Wally’s “This is the Day”…when I sang Muslin Dress he heard Muslim
as for the Texan Lady in Castlebar when I sang Morrissey’s line “you big fat pig”
…I hope she got home safe…and that she stays there
Good morning christy,
What an amazing concert last night in the millennium forum, you certainly didn’t dissappoint you were amazing and thank you for such a memorable night..
We hope you got the photos of my grandmother Maggie Barry,if she was still here she would be delighted for you to have them..
Kind regards
Eugene and Rachel barry
Maybe someday we will meet you in the flesh
Christy's reply
thank you for the beautiful pics of Margaret….I will cherish them
Derry never disappoints … always a great atmosphere in the Forum.
A mighty set of songs and then the jukebox got rattled up.
We will be back for the 2nd half on Wed when we will have Conor and his cousin Owen with us, for their first gig since they both returned from Brisbane a short while ago. I’ve been telling Conor how special “Boy in the Wild World ” is. Looking forward to him hearing it live for himself for the first time.
Christy's reply
Morning Marty..
great to catch sight of you along the front row last night….yes ,The Forum is beautiful venue…I’ve always loved playing that room….great people working there too..always a welcome on the mat…
Sad to hear they are being forced to close for 7 weeks to facilitate roadworks at the stage entrance side of the venue…sounds like there might certain intransigence afoot in certain quarters….The Forum in Derry is one of Ireland’s finest venues…seems a shame its being forced to “go black” to facilitate the resurfacing of a back laneway…
anyway Marty, thanks for feedback on last night’s gig….the audience were so welcoming and created a Saturday night atmosphere on a damp Monday evening….
I dont know if you noticed, occasionally when I perform “On The Mainland”, an outcry erupts when I utter the word london-Derry…there was a lone outburst last night..one male spluttered a brief protest
I stumbled twice but the audience were forgiving..I got my Mickey & Matty mixed up and I missed continuity on Beeswing….at the final whistle I doubt if many remembered apart from myself…
I’m still not 100% happy with the live version of “Boy in The Wild”….hopefully I’ll find the key to unlock the missing ingredient…best to you both
Hi Christy,
Sowing a seed here for your July 4 gig in the TLT. Any chance you could sing The Other Side. Is there a better lyric than ‘To the distant sounds of cricket in Cloughjordan’.
Fin

back home there’s cricket in Cloughjordan
the gentle clack of croquet on the lawn
while our children shackled by illegal status
hold their heads down behind the Brooklyn wall
Thank you Christy, and all of the crew, for another wonderful night beside the walls. It’s no mean feat to sell out the Forum on a school night. Great energy as always but for me Palestine and Lyra were 2 highlights- sadly all too topical. Great to see the brother visit our town too- always welcome. Enjoy the half time break and looking forward to the second half on Wednesday. Thank you- as always ❤️

Hi Christy,
Hope Derry is going as well as always.
We was lucky to get out the gap with a point.
Sets up the last weekend nicely.
Haven’t watched as much full games in a long time.
The folks at Claddagh records continue the good work.
First there was The Patrick Kavanagh album.
Rachel Blackmore reading Pegasus is worth the price of admission.
(Sounds even better after Finbar Furrey’s Wild Horses)
Then there was The Christy man’s A Terrible Beauty.
So good they’re releasing it twice.
And now The Masters of their craft.
Also Muiireann Bradley’s I kept these old blues.
Carlsberg don’t do record labels and thanks be for that.
Sad news continues daily from Gaza. Ukraine too.
Guess there’s just a meanness in this world.

Hi C. As the Clock sadly seems to be Winding down on Palestine your song matched with Triangle is so very important. The star of your video of Boy in the Wild Liam Cunningham is taking action & using his platform to highlight the tragic fate of so many there, as he sails in a ship trying to breach the blockade and deliver Aid. Greta Thurnburg is also on board, let’s hope they succeed. Enjoy the gigs. Beir bua agus beannacht. H
Hello Christy. The very best of luck with your two nights in Derry. Unfortunately I can’t make it this year.No doubt you will bring the house down with your music and song. Sweet music roll on Christy.

tis a fair auld schlep from Timoleague to Derrylondon
Hi Christy
i saw a bluegrass band perform over the weekend, they were grand, not usually my cup of tea but still live music is hard to beat. They finished off with a yodelling song and dog howling noises….it takes all sorts to make a world…..a couple of years ago i saw Rob Corcoran play a gig there, i hope he is still ringing that bell.

ps the venue was Green Note in Camden, worth checking out folks

Hi Christy,
thank’s a lot for your greetings for my home concert last saturday. The Audience appreciated your words very much. The concert turned out to be a great success. I guess you have about 20 new Fans now in Bavaria 🙂
My last song was “ordinary man”, which i sang first in english and then in my home-tongue (i translated it into “swabian” – that’s spoken in the region arround Stuttgart)
Roll on
Kind regards
Uwe
Hello Christy,
When rearranging the cd cabinet I found a cd that was missing for a while. It’s about a composition that Gavin Bryans made on a song an unknown homeless man sang. Towards the end Tom waits sings along. It is called “Jesus’ blood never failed me yet”. It is quite an experience and it takes time to listen till the end. Maybe you are interested, you can find it on you tube .
I also have a poem (I got from MSF)I would like to share, can I do it here?
Have a good gig tomorrow. Love from Belgium

Hope I’ve remembered that correctly.
Allende….. now there’s a song worth hearing.
big angry Texan woman “who’s this Allende guy you say we murdered”
