Hi Christy, I watched Stephen Rea’s powerful, poignant, reflective documentary The Fire In Me Now. Thaddeus O’Sullivan’s experimental drama documentary On a Paving Stone Mounted, featured on it and sorry to say I had never heard of it. Like many generations before, the young Irish protagonist struggles to adapt himself into life in London. You sang a song to the tune of Lanigan’s Ball? ‘…his father died and made him a man again…the recession the drink and one for the ladies…’ Have you ever sung this again? Would love to watch this film but cannot access.
Christy's reply
Hey Mary, good to hear from you..been a while…I was looking at my wee bookcase thinking I’d not heard for a while and up you popped….I saw tha Stephen Rea….was very surprised to see that wee clip…used to meet Thaddeus regularly in London in the 1970’s….he also made December Bride..one of my favourite films….I think that song might have been “Patrick’s Arrival” I think its on an album called “The Iron Behind the Velvet”….I sing it to myself occasionaly here in the workroom..it has some great lines….I discovered the lyric in an old tattered book..it had no tune so I borrowed the melody from “The Night Before Larry Was Stretched” which Johnny Moynihan used to sing…
just packing up here to head into the National Concert Hall for the first of three gigs in the coming month….
hope all well in The Bog Meadow….I hear rumour of a gig on the road in August
Cheers Christy!
Two years ago, my boyfriend and I saw you perform in Derry. The much anticipated concert was made even better when you gave a shout out to me during the show. (I had written you an enthusiastic note because I was so excited to see you live.)
However, I didn’t even mention my partner when I wrote you even though he’s the one who introduced me to your music.
He’s never let me forget that. We’re back again, trying to escape the Trump terror and finish our bi-annual trip to Ireland with concert tickets.
If you have the time and inclination to give a shout out to Andrew from Detroit, it would go a long way to get me out of the dog house. Lol Cheers! Deanna from Detroit
Christy's reply
Deanna & Andy from Detroit ….your request is in the Tombola….Donald dropping in tonight on his way home from burying the pope….such a kind sensitive mourner
Hiya Christy. Your music was the soundtrack to our childhood. We spent every summer holiday in the 90s driving the Kerry countryside listening to your tapes. They are some of my fondest memories. I’ve had the pleasure of seeing you in vicar street over the years, but tomorrow I will be cheering you on in the NCH with my family. This is the first time we’re getting to one of your gigs together as a gift to my dad who thankfully introduced all of us to your music. I’m sure you’ve had plenty of requests, but we would love to hear Back Home in Derry for the Glover family from Wicklow if you have it on the setlist.
Thanks for sharing your stories with us.

Hi Christy,
Back in the late 80’s you had a guitar case made in Bray and you spent a few hours with us as we finished it. I hope it lasted and kept the guitar safe. This Sunday 27th I will be cheering you on from the back of the concert hall.
If you feel inclined, something by Ewan McColl or maybe Ships in the Forest would be wonderful. Wishing you good health. F

Hello Christy,
Sending you my best wishes for your recording. I hope it’s going well!
Found Davy Spillane’s Atlantic Bridge on vinyl the other day. What an album! It’s got everything going on on it. Including some hot bodhran tickling by yourself. Some amazing playing on it, from slow airs to the blues.
I’ve got to the stage with the guitar where I can practice nearly as long as I want without my fingers falling off.
I think I noticed some improvement in my finger picking yesterday!

We are excited over here to have tickets to your show in Limerick in June.
This is a special treat for one of my boys also called Christy who is turned 18 and has inherited his good music taste from his dad..
It would be great on that night to have a mention from you if possible as a surprise for him.
He’s a good lad and has had some difficult times with his head space but is getting stronger every day.
Your song Ride On was my wedding dance song and fortunetly sung by a great band Toss the Feathers as I grew up in Manchester but originally from the beautiful country of Monaghan.
Good health and best wishes to you.
John O
Christy's reply
wish you a safe and joyful trip from Nth Yorkshire to beautiful Limerick upon the broad majestic Shannon…..
it might be a good night to sing “The Dalesman’s Litany”
Ah, Christy, you’re very kind, but there’s more chance of me winning the Pope’s hat than singing a song!
I had a gander at the men of no property, thanks. Some radical republicanism there, and no shortage of wit, plus a real twang to the vocals, though I think I prefer your version of Jesus and Jesse. There’s an awful lot of depth there behind the apparent levity of those lyrics. I discovered another song with the same name from a couple of years ago from some country MAGA singer – a rock I wish I had left unturned.
Sacrilege is a funny one alright, probably something we should leave to the christians, but of course, it can catch out the atheist, apostate and faithful alike. My lyric was inspired by a reading of the wonderful ‘The gospel according to Jesus Christ’ by José Saramago which suffered the same fate of Edna O’Brien and John McGahern and was banned in his own country.
Speaking of country – I urge everyone to check out Mike Judge’s brilliant ‘Tales from the tour bus. A collection of highly entertaining animated shorts about music history. The first season is focussed mostly on country music, though they’re all on youtube I think.
Hi Christy,
Is there any chance you could dedicate a song of your choice to my best friend Clement Gavin in the Keadeen on 10th May? We have been going to see you nearly every year (except Covid) since we were 16 years old! (at Goffs). When other teenagers were listening to ACDC on their walkmans we shared an earphone each for our Christy Moore tapes! I turned 50 last year and Clement turned 50 two weeks ago – I bought him the tickets for the Keadeen show for his birthday, with our wives in tow! We always try to catch you in Kildare as two proud Lilywhites, but we often see you in Dublin or elsewhere too. We are really looking forward to the show as always. I’ll understand if you don’t have time for the dedication or if you feel its not appropriate but I thought I’d ask just in case – he’d be gobsmacked if you wished him a happy birthday.
Thank you Christy and best regards,
David Browne.
