Hello Christy and Hello Pat D’Arcy. Of course I had wished you travelling around without any problems. But we would be missing a wonderful story now. I loved reading it. I can confirm your wife, this only happens in Ireland. Best wishes to all Günter
Well Christy, just back in Germany after my annual Irish ‘Easter Triduum’:
A visit to Dublin and the Abbey. ‘Youth’s the Season…?’
What a great show, and a lot of them making their Abbey debut!
A family mass for mammy and daddy’s anniversary, followed by a meet the family brunch hosted by the brother Jim. Great occasion.
A trip to the wee north ….now that was special. Driving round the back roads of Armagh/Tyrone we got a blowout on our Thrifty/Hertz rental car. Phoned them. No bother, tell me the tyre size, and where are you? Tyre size no problem, but location? Not a clue. Along comes a local farmer driving his cattle to the fields. ‘ Can you chat with this fella in Dublin, let him know where we are?’ No bother. ,A local repair man will be with you within the hour said the Thrifty man.
But Christy that wasn’t enough for the local farmer. First he pumped up the tyre, to no avail, the rip was too big. Then he phoned local tyre companies to tell the to look after us if Thrifty called them . And he passed by a couple of times to see we were ok.
Then a local lady pulled up. I seen you there, you are in trouble, here’s a bottle of water each, no knowing how long you will have to wait. Ireland well united to help.
A few minutes later White’s Tyres from Armagh pulled up. The fella jumps out….I have a new tyre for ye….my God Pat D’Arcy what are you doing here, I was told it was Germans!
Well Ciarán Duffy says I, you’re a long way from town!. Five minutes to change the tyre Christy, and a half an hours chat about all the people we knew in Dundalk! Could only happen in Ireland says my German wife Gabi.
Well Christy, we were under way within the hour, well done Thrifty/Hertz, and we drove along the Blackwater, I says to Gabi, sure we have to sing now
‘I travelled the length of its county
Through Newtown, Forkhill, Crossmaglen,
Along by the gap of Mount Norris,
And home by Blackwater again.
Its my own Irish home, far across the foam,
Although I’ve often left it, in foreign lands to roam,
No matter where I wander through cities near or far,
Sure me heart’s at home in old Ireland,
In the county of Armagh.’
How wonderful says Gabi, the Irish have a song for every occasion!
Credit Christy Moore and his wonderful songwriters. No matter what happens here, good or bad, they come up with a song for it.
Hi Christy

I’m trawling the memory bank here…a distant bell rings…am I recalling a session with Whispering Bob way back in the early 1970s?….a small studio some where in the bowels of the beeb?… or is it my ever more confused reimagination?… did sessions with John Peel, Parky,Janice Long, Ned Sherrin, Johnny Walker,Cerys Matthews Terry Wogan,Gloria Hunniford Jools,Andrew Marr,Mike Harding, Wally Whyton, Jim Lloyd,…..a few that spring to mind this papal tuesday…might Air Force one land in St Peter’s Square or will it parachute into the Vat to see Frankie off
Great to play a gig and also enjoy Easter/Fairyhouse…
A few weeks ago,I chanced on radio play/chat about the Woody Guthrie themed ‘Fire and Dust’ album by Reg Meuross…I subsequently tracked it down and have spent a chunk of time absorbing the songs and excellent sleeve notes.
Interesting that Pete Townshend from The Who is a big admirer of Woody and backed this project, as well as contributing to some tracks.
Reg has written songs and played covers of some Woody classics with an ace band…lovely textures of Americana,Texmex etc…
The package tells the story of Woody’s successes and tragedies…the album’s title sums up the emotions very well …the blend of covers and original songs work seamlessly…never better than ‘Deportees’ followed by the ultra poignant ‘Red Shoes’,written by Reg Meuross…
I hope readers here get chance to listen to ‘Fire and Dust’,it’s a terrific addition to anyone’s Woody Guthrie collection.

Hello Christy,
Happy Easter to you and your family. It’s lovely reading the posts here and your replies.
Chocolate for breakfast day.
In this house it’s chocolate buttons and malteaser bunnies.
Working hard on the songs is the thing that makes me happiest. Pretty near to cracking the chords on Dark Eyed Sailor.
Looking forward to your concert in Mountmellick tomorrow night.
You first played there on Sep. 28, 2012.
I was there with my husband Leo Dunne , a great fan of yours, who died 11 days later.
Happy Easter to you and yours Christy.
Heading up to catch you in the National Concert Hall on Sat May 3rd for the birthday celebrations, it can’t come quick enough. I’m sure the setlist is signed and sealed already, but if you could squeeze in Sail On Jimmy, it would be a real highlight. Looking forward to a bit of Black & Amber! Beir bua and hope you’re well. Christy hi
Having listened to A Terrible Beauty often i have, like many , many songs and albums before just let lyrics float over me.
Tonight after the Hawick rfc 7s tournament i took a notion to check out what Lemon 7s actually were, and i find that actually the Lemmon should have 2 Ms in it, not that anyone smoking them will be bothered about spelling.
I suppose i always assumed steak knife was the correct spelling of the vile stakeknife until reading ‘4 shots in the night’.
At least we know Smoke and Strong Whiskey is supposed to have an E in it.
Rory
Christy's reply
Thnaks for that Rory..always good to get the nod on miss spells and faulty info….I struggle perpetually with certain words..
Ive been listening to a lot of bluegrass and gospel of late, and I think I might’ve caught something off it. Its mildly sacrilegious, but i thought I might spread it around, given the weekend thats in it.
Won’t You Hurry, Jesus?
Oh, Christ’s our lord and saviour, he’s the only game in town,
but he’s sittin’ up there, risen, while we keep on fallin’ down.
They’ve stacked the odds against us, and we can’t take no more,
so I’m prayin’ that he’ll come back soon to even out the score.
Oh Jesus won’t you hurry? Oh, hurry up my friend,
‘cos you made us all a promise you would be here at the end.
It’s time to take your plan, Lord, and put it to the test,
‘cos if you don’t come back real soon, there won’t be nuthin’ left.
Oh, sisters, did you notice? Oh, brothers, did you see?
Any sign or signal from that man from Galilee?
Y’know it’s set me thinkin’, him being gone for all this time?
That maybe when he left he pulled the ladder up behind.
Now it’s gettin’ kinda hot down here, I cannot tell no lie,
and I don’t think these flames are only coming from the sky.
Its like they tried to warn us, in all them old time songs:
The devil comes a-knockin’ when God stays away too long.
Oh Jesus won’t you hurry? Oh, hurry up my friend,
‘cos you made us all a promise you would be here at the end.
You tried to save us last time, and we know you did you best,
but if you don’t come back real soon, there won’t be nuthin’ left.
I don’t know all what’s wrong Lord, but I know what isn’t right,
and I never did believe that you could put a cork in Christ.
We’re gonna let it out all gush out Lord, we’re gonna let it all well up,
so why don’t you just come on down and grab yourself a cup?
Now, the first time that you came around, it didn’t end too well,
and I can’t truly say the same won’t happen once again.
But I hear those horsemen comin’, and their coming’s overdue,
so hurry up and come before we all come visit you.
Oh Jesus won’t you hurry? Oh, hurry up my friend,
‘cos you made us all a promise you would be here at the end.
Now, the sun is going down, it’s settin’ red up in the west,
and if you don’t come back real soon, there won’t be nuthin’ left.
Now, I crossed the river Jordan, and I prayed at Bethany,
I took a drink at Cana and I walked to Calvary.
And I didn’t see no peace there, I didn’t find no love,
so maybe you’d be better off just stayin’ up above?
