Mick Lally 1945-2010

God Rest you Mick Lally. Deepest Sympathy to Peggy and all the family in Dublin,Tourmakeady and to the broad Irish theatre family of whom you were such a vital part.Since we first met in Galway in 1972 I've not spent half enough time in your company.Another time perhaps!....my life is better for having known you, Auld Stock.

Was that you who commented on my "precious load" as I walked my Murphy's down from Arundel's last week? ...

Christy's Reply
twas myself faith,I was struck by the skill, determination and sheer concentration displayed as you portered your precious load toward its final destination (down your throat no doubt)...I wondered to myself,is it all for himself? might he need a hand? not at all sez I to myself, that fine man looked like a healthy specimen who could well take in the full gallon and soon be back to Mary for another round...some men walk their dogs, others step out with their lady wives...give me the man that "walks his Murphy's" I have checked with the local Sergeant who assures me that its legal to carry it "outside yourself" provided your under the limit within...go n'eiri an mbóthar leat

August 2010

I played a gig last night at the opening of this years "Masters of the Tradition" festival, which is celebrating its 7th year. I enjoyed playing with Martin Hayes, Dennis Cahill and Damian Mullane. The gig was a fundraiser for the festival which has lost some of its sponsors in recent years. Anyone who likes to hear "The Pure Drop" of music should consider coming to this festival. Over the years I have heard brilliant performances from Liam O'Flynn, Frankie Gavin, Michéal O'Suilleabháin, Tony Mc Mahon and Tommy Peoples, to name but a few. There are no distractions or gimmicks here
