Hey Christy! I’m from Boston and my husband is originally from galway. We had been to see you a few years back in Roscommon – it was a great show although I was surprised of the venue because it said it was a stadium haha we alwAys get a good laugh about it anyway. My husband has always been a big fan. We had our first child, a baby girl Niamh in July of 2014. Just wanted to let you ever since she was 3 days old when we put on your music she relaxs and is able to fall asleep. Every night we listen to you and it’s the only thing sometimes that will settle her. Motherland is her favorite. Wanted to thank you for putting out such lovely music and getting us a few hours of sleep! 😉
Christy's reply
Thanks for sharing…lovely to hear of baby Niamh being lulled to sleep by the strains of Motherland (written by Natalie Merchant) Tis a beautiful song… I remember playing that venue in Roscommon…. in a clubhouse situated within a stadium..I recall it clearly for I was gifted half a dozen beautiful duck-eggs after the show. Next morning I put two of them down with half a dozen home-cured back rashers….a few cuts of brown bread and a mug of well brewed Barrys (classic blend) tea….I was literally on the pigs back
Hello, I’m sure Christy that you read these submissions from time to time and respond when you get a chance…I was wondering if you remember me from many years ago..1969 in fact,I was 7years old and you were staying in the pack horse pub in Bury…if my memory serves me right I think it was one of your relatives pub..anyway you had an overnight ferry booked from heysham back to Ireland, and my dad drove you there, and I came along for the ride…my dads vehicle was a van, which only had 2 seats up front so I sat on your guitar case…on reaching heysham, you gave me an original copy of paddy on the road..with the very guitar case I had been sat on during the journey pictured on the front of the album…on parting you said to me look after that record it might be worth something one day…I kept the record up until 1984 where I moved out of my dads to get married, the record remained at my dads until he passed away and I never retrieved it….I would just like to say I am pleased you went on to achieve the success in life your talents deserved…as a 7 year old boy you made a lasting impression on me…oh by the way my dad was called Charlie, and my mum served behind the bar in the pub.she was called Audrey..kind regards Christy..
Christy's reply
Micky…what a surprise….I have a clouded memory of our trip to Heysham but a clear memory of your Mother. I stayed a The Pack Horse Inn, Birtle, Bury frequently in the Mid 60’s. The Landlady there was my aunt, Kathleen Knowles. I still have some cousins in Bury. I have great memories from those times. We had some great nights of music and song in Birtle, our throats well lubricated by the finest of John Willy Lees Keg ale.
Christy
Just like to say thanks for the great night at Limerick over a week ago. Managed to get great seats in the third row. Having been out of Ireland for 10 years my best mate from O’Callaghans Mills showed us round & many of your songs from the nights were from places we passed & stories he mentioned. You converted my father-in-law from Oz into a fan & he spent much of the holiday trying to find Declan Sinnott’s cd (to no avail). Thanks also for playing Joxer, was a great end along with Ride on to an absolutely outstanding concert. Hope the sound on the song written by Kirsty McCall’s father was okay & manages to make the cut.
Thanks again, Eamonn
Christy's reply
Greetings to all above in Sydney…hope the Autumn brings calm days…..Yes ! we finally managed to get a version of Ewan McColl’s “Companeros” down on tape. Having recorded a dozen live takes at gigs we eventually settled on a version recorded at a sound check in Athlone….all the live gig versions got “too excited”,I kept losing the run of myself.. His Sons are preparing an album of their Father’s songs..10 years is a long time away from the auld sod…I was away for 12 months once back in 1966-67…never once managed to raise the fare but I could “well afford to drink” has your father in law tried Declan’s web site or facebook, its a good album
Currently Listening again to ‘Live at the Point’ on the Car Stereo.
What an Album that is……reminds me of some terrific nights in the Point. Heck it was a awful big Stage …..still ’twas no bother for you to fill it with good vibrations.
Ride on.
Christy's reply
a coincidence…I was talking to a man yesterday about that very album.. making it was an interesting experience…over a period of time we recorded 16 gigs at the point theatre in Dublin ….the tracks on that album were gleaned from those recordings then stitched back together to appear like one seamless performance…it was my first time to experience digital recording ….hope all is good in Moate this morning..we are camped in Youghal where we had a mighty gig last night in the Walter Raleigh Hotel…had a grand chat with Walter afterwards…he was all talk about tobacco and potatoes…its a lovely hotel, great room and fine audience…my first time to play Youghal in East Cork, we’re at it again here tonight
Christy Moore, thanks for even making a comment back to me. The finger:? Is that what I think you are saying. Get the —- out. Ha.
Now, Christy, you are a man as am I.
Now, what was it I wanted to say. Really just thanks for replying to my posts.
Now, at the risk of way wearing out my welcome. My world conversation.
Look, my flute work is of course elementary. I know that. I am just sharing my self taught flute for fun. And, my world commentary as well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MxPHb8iy0u0&list=UUnsUaXejSLQrfjyszAaOGcA
God bless.
Christy's reply
Thank you for playing in the morning Charles…lovely piece you played there and lovely tone too..thanks too for sharing your thoughts on the dangerous world we live in…my slight response will be to sing Jackson Brown’s song ” How Long” tonight here in County Cork….Peace be with You Charles, …..Peace, Fresh Air, Clean Water and Good Vibrations…for as long as they might last
Oh, and as a caveat Christy, though I am a very, very big fan of James Taylor and his brother Livingston Taylor, it is Luke Kelly or Ronnie Drew that my offspring would be named.
Christy, if you haven’t got it by now, I am not cowed by famous people. I can respect their accomplishments of course, .but, save respecting their space and privacy, I don’t worship them at all.
That being said my musical “friend” I want to share this.
This is not an insult, that is not where I am coming from .I am just speaking the truth as I see it. If I ever had a kid – time is running out- ha, I would name him Luke Kelly, or, Ronnie Drew. If I had a third I would call him Tommie Makim. If my woman was pushing out gumballs, my fourth would be named Seamus Begley. I am sorry your are not in this name list.
If a girl is born? I would have to regroup and rethink.
Hi christy… Really looking forward to the gig Saturday evening in youghal by the sea…last gig was in the marquee what a great gig that was in the big tent… Take care tony and Fiona
Many friends as well as myself would love seeing you in Berlin again. Thanks.
Christy's reply
It certainly is my wish to return to Germany. It is being considered by the planners so lets wait and see..I have my fingers crossed….the songs are ready !
Morra Tony. I hear talk of gigs in London, Manchester and Birmingham in April of 2016. Hopefully the winds of time will blow favourably in our direction.More info as the picture becomes clearer
Hi there Christy.
Just seen the news about Liverpool gig in October. I shall be there.
Had a great few days in Dublin a few weeks back when England were over for the 6 nations. Never managed to get a ticket but had a great afternoon watching the match with a plate of bacon and cabbage in front of me. Why do they never give you a cup of the cabbage soup to drink like your mother did.
saw some good live music too although my wife and I were pissing our sides laughing when every time we walked into a bar the act would sing Folsom Prison Blues before too long. Still who am I to judge. And what’s this about Glastonbury. Them Fairport boys miss the boat eh?.
A great climax to the tournament last weekend and all teams did themselves some credit even the Scottish..
take care

Last Saturday was a day to remember for all followers of the oval ball.France wholeheartedly came to our aid.I watched the first two games in the heartland of Irish Rugby -Limerick. Then I had to depart for the nights gig in Tipperary Town. So full of gratitude that I opened my set with a Kildare version of “Frere Jacques, Donez Vous” (excuse spelling Maryline). Very impressed that your plate of bacon & cabbage lasted the entire afternoon.Where was that ?
I still remember the first time I heard Fairport. It was in the old Free Trade Hall Manchester circa 1969. It sowed the seed for Moving Hearts 12 which sprouted 12 years later. Heard them again in 1981 at Leeds Folk Festival.
Pity about The Iveagh Gdns this year, it was a great highlight last year….but GLASTONBURY…….now there’s a gig….nice one..
Next Tuesday, 31st March, we will have a phone chat with Conor Byrne on Sin é Radio show to talk about the 3 big music festivals coming up over the next few months. The line up on all of these festivals is amazing , and Conor will give us a flavour of what to expect. Links below to the three festivals. Tune in 9pm – 11pm 103.2fm…Hup hup
no better man to talk Music then Conor….when the talking is done, ask him to play.He is a fine flute player but, unlike his Uncles, he is sometimes reticent to play. Some great line-ups there, a lot of acts I’d love to hear
Hiya Christy Moore.
Just a request for when you come to The Anvil in Basingstoke – can you please sing some of the rousing songs as well as the ‘soft’ ones ie
Viva Le Quita etc. …,,,, If they come in the Morning………Not forgetting Fairytale of New York. Great version. I am new to your music -3 months only and love it.
I think your voice has got better with age. Cheeky I know but the truth. Ciao for now. Pat Franks
Christy's reply
who knows what way the wind will blow over Basingstone when Maytime comes..your song choice has been noted..hopefully, we’ll all have a lovely night in The Anvil
Well Christy How’s it going. Any dates for the Iveagh gardens gig this summer. Will it be MOC band again? You were saying a while back that you may have a project in place for the centenary next year. It’d be great if it went ahead (the 50th year of the tour too) .Maybe 5 nights at Croker? Hopefully see you liffeyside again this year. That gig with the keoghs was something else last summer. Spirits need raising down here after a dodgy league campaign.
Christy's reply
Morra …..cant make The Iveagh this year….theres gonna be a hometown gig in the Autumn…not finalised yet..hope to play with Paul and Lenny again at some stage..really enjoyed that outing last year..2 great songsters and musicians…sound

Morra John….On the verge of recording a collection of songs…at the moment figuring out when, where, with whom, how, why,if, …….
meanwhile, practicing, learning, writing, arranging, wondering and enjoying the process……..I’m probably getting towards the end of my recording work (hopefully not)….should it be my last album I’d like it to be a good one….something I’ve always aspired towards but seldom achieved..
I may have a title, I have a basket of songs, maybe even a sleeve concept….all I need now is the confidence, the courage to commit….
……In the meantime the gigs are satisfying and fulfilling as the 49 year tour rolls on…we are bound for Youghal this week, a town in which I have never performed before….something which happens very seldom these days.(in 2014-Kiltimagh,in 2013-Knocknagoshel)
..no sign of another book…the chats here allow me to write occasionally…I’ve neither the time, inclination or inspiration towards committing to a book. Songs and singing are always my working priority…thanks for the questions
All the songs I ever heard in my house growing up was yours. Johnny don’t go and ride on particularly stick in my mind. Been listening to you and Shane macgowan’s rendition of spancil hill about 5 times a day recently. You reach a certain height or pinnacle even when you listen to certain songs. It’s a real shame I suppose that you can only feel like that when a certain song plays. Point I’m making is that you’re amazing at what you do and I’ve always thought that since I was a kid and I still am I suppose at 20. Thanks though it’s a wonderful feeling to have when you listen to one of your songs. (Particularly that spancil hill with Shane, that is something special)
