I was there the night Luke Kelly dropped in and did a Floor Spot..another night I opened my sweat filled eyes during a song and there was Bet Lynch from Coronation Street in the Front row… no eyes on the stage that night

Hi Christy, my parents were killed by loyalists in september 1992, we had a 30th anniversary commemoration for them 2 weeks ago. A local singer songwriter wrote called Gerry Cunningham wrote a lovely song for them called the ballad of Charlie and Tess- my parents. I’m an ex republican prisoner and one of my keepsakes from long kesh is the Christy Moore songbook. I want to give it to Gerry as a thank you for writing the song and I wonder could you sign it for him.

You have a way to not only tell a story but take the listener on a journey. You really are a true protector of music. Your versin of beswing blows me away. Its been a few years since we hit the Ardilaun…a few scorchers there with Mairtín Ó Connor, Cathal Hayden, Seamie O’Dowd and Jim Higgins….loved playing with that trad outfit….when Mairtín & Cathal took off on a brace reels we could end up anywhere…Inis Meain or Corofin or Knocknagoshel…..it id be up up and away with Dr O’Connor at the helm you could could be bucking in Oranmore one minute and a second later tappin around Tyrone ….one night in the Ardilaune I ended up in an oxygen tent after 7 reels and my bodhrán has never got over it…
there was a lovely version of Beeswing in Bundoran last night…the South Donegal Choir swelled up in tuneful glory and resounded like a musical apparition..I had to stretch it out at the end to try and hang on to the vibration …

Listening to the box set 1964-2004 by Christy Moore and feeling no pain at all.
I don’t know if there are plans for the collection part three.
Hard to know where to start there has been so much mighty music recorded on stage and in the studio since part two.
But your reading of poor old earth would finish it off nicely.
Preceded by that magic version of vive la quinte brigada from on the road.

Well, I am so excited about the prospect of getting to Vicar Street this year ( hopefully?)
Just got back from holiday in Greece to a wet and dark Todmorden so the news of the gigs has really lifted my spirits.
I was due to go last year with my sister who had been really unwell after contracting Covid.
The rules then changed and we could not go. As it turned out my sister told me she had been feeling that she probably wasn’t really well enough to go and was worried about flying and contracting Covid again, so it was not meant to be at that time.
Luckily after getting a blood clot on her lungs my sister is doing well again so I am really optimistic that we can go together this year to enjoy more wonderful memories listening to your wonderful songs xxx
