Negotiations are complete with Ticket master. By the time it decided it liked my card there were 6 seconds left on the clock. All on my side though, and I’m useless at reading when I’m trying to go fast.
We’ll be there on the front row on 9th and11th Jan, given a kind and prevailing wind. A few nights in Dublin and exploring around it to look forward to.
Anyone else got ticketmaster to agree with them?
Christy's reply
such booking skills are quite beyond my comprehension…I’m very fortunate to have skilled device technicians at my side….my only online interaction takes place here upon this very www
saw a very good movie yesterday called “LIMBO”
tells the heartbreaking story of a group of refugees stranded on a remote and barren Scottish Island..the main character is a young Syrian musician who plays the Oud
When did you last sing Derby day? All those minds in it. Lovely.
Christy's reply
maybe 35 years ago.. gigged it a few times and it died a slow death…when that happens I usually put them in cold storage…must take it down and see how responds
Hello Christy,
Derby day is new to me. I’ve just read your words. They get in there so clearly. I’ll listen to it later. I’d love daisies on my lawn. My garden has a lot of trees so we get moss, not daisies.
I like the way in your new, video there’s no green anywhere. Not a scrap of green, all based on Greenland.
Earth becoming moon.
The countdown to the scrap with ticket master is on.
Now the gigs are rolling, will you think about putting a band together.? Solo is a lot of pressure.
Rebecca
Christy's reply
Its been 20 years now since I last worked solo….gonna stick with it for the time being….no Band plan just now
over the years there has been 4 Bands..Planxty, Moving Hearts, Companeros and Trad Outfit……
as my brother Wolf reminds me …”pressure is only for tyres”
Ah no mistake ! Just conditioned behavior on my side 😃
Fell asleep peacefully and dreamt I was on Lord Franklin ‘s ship with his sixteen raving fisherman sailing to the shores of Greenland watching whalefish blow.
Good luck with the upcoming gigs!
John
Along with the new album, it’s good to be anticipating a new Paul Doran song. There’s an impressive catalogue…
I’ve always been intrigued by ‘Derby Day’. I think it’s one of your most enigmatic songs, so it’s interesting to read that Paul added the tune to your words. It’s a fine combination… one of your songs that I play frequently. It’s mysterious quality has great appeal.
Enjoy the prep for the next gig – have a good day.
Dave
Christy's reply
Paul is a unique songsmith….
His “Greenland” among the best songs I’ve ever encountered and sung…”The Gardener” not too far behind..
“Derby Day” was written 40 years ago….many disparate events included in its 3 verses..all encountered
Just saw the remark that the album title is based on the song Greenland by Paul Doran. Title had me confused with the sixteen fisherman raving from Wally 😄
Christy's reply
my mistake..
should have written the artwork on the sleeve of the album was inspired by the song “Greenland”
as you rightly say “Flying into Mystery” is from Wally’s song…..I hope your confusion lifts..theres nothing so bad, particularly at bedtime
“I was just a small town boy when I left that dusty old town…..”
Indeed C, dont pass any royalties on to the Guthrie estate but to Andy, a great troubadour and another to take to the road touring. Andy a major Guthrie fan.
As another one I know would say: Keep on truckin’.
The cover of the new album looks brilliant – as is the video for ‘The clock winds down’…
I’ve been a fan of David Rooney’s art for awhile now since I was stunned by the amazing images at http://www.davidrooney.com – the ‘showreel’ on the website has a clever animation for his postage stamp art, as well as some of David’s music.
Wonderful stuff…
Dave
Christy's reply
Yes ….David Rooney’s work is exceptional…the image he created for “Flying Into Mystery” is based upon the song “Greenland” which is on the album….it was written by Paul Doran…the song carried me away upon first hearing, learning to cover it was a challenge…..I’ve previously covered two of Paul’s songs, Natives in 1986 and The Gardener in 2016….I first met Paul when he opened for Moving Hearts in The Baggot Inn in 1980……he also wrote the music for a lyric of mine called “Derby Day”
Fascinating that you and Kevin played some gigs together… interesting that http://www.crownandanchormanchester.co.uk looks to be going strong. I’ll have a wander that way, when next in the area… I’ll be looking for the ‘blue plaque’ to mark the gig you played in 1967!
Home jobs being accompanied by the box set today – the blue disc has pure gems…’Lakes of Pontchartrain’ is a thing of beauty…
Christy,
Hope you are well.
I just located your reply to my message sent last year about my Dad, Seamus Hahessy’s passing.
Thank you so much. You’re amazing to reply to all the messages.
Dad and Mam loved your company. Love the new single.
Cuan is still beautiful and that community spirit is still so strong. Some big characters gone now but sure that’s life.
Have a lovely Bank holiday,
Hope to catch a gig soon!
Take Care,
Aine Hahessy
Christy's reply
Áine…your post revives memories of our time in Coolcullen high above the beautiful village of Cuan,,,,back then a visit to ‘Comer always involved a visit to your Fathers Furniture establisment for chat and banter…back then his understudy Tom Kinsella became my tour manager as we travelled extensively to gigs in Muckalee, The Ridge, Kanes Bridge,The Butts, Pedigree Corner and far off Gowran.. the crowning glory was that momentous concert we had in Cuan Hall circa 1978…Moloneys ran out of “large bottles ” that night..please remember me to all the good people who welcomed us to Cuan and Coolcullen
Brilliant to read reports of a terrific night in Ennis…like a blast from the past – and good that there’ll be more to come.
Last night I watched TG4’s ‘Se Mo Laoch’ programme on Kevin Conneff. Superb bodhran playing via archive film of The Chieftains (several clips just as I remember them from gigs I saw) and from his recent playing. I remember you saying that you hoped to film for the series. I wonder if that took place or had to be shelved with Covid filming restrictions etc…Every episode is fascinating, but the camera shots close up to the musicians add a great depth too. Great stuff…
Also, greatly enjoying youtube visits for ‘Clock…’ brilliantly performed and the accompanying film is spot on (I think it’s David Rooney’s skills on show, but, if not, I’d love to know the name of the artist, to check them out).
Always good when music keeps the spirits high – enjoy the day.
Dave
Have a good day all.
Dave
Christy's reply
Morra Dave…your mention of Kevin Conneff brings me right back to 1967…..I was living in Moss side and starting to get a few gigs…I invited Kevin “over” to do a few clubs with me…we played Congleton, The Crown & Anchor (back of Picadilly) and The Grove in Leeds together ..we had a grand few days trekkiing about in my old grey Mini-van…all this years before Planxty or The Chieftains became part of our working lives….
So the roadshow back on the road. Good. And some punters already at the last night’s show. Who’s bringing the family, nine, to Vicar Street? Look for a family discount. Croke Park? Nope too big. Far too big. Smaller intimate venues way better. Keep the spirit Irish. Stay safe on those roads. Am thinking the Gutherie track: Never Tire of the Road.
Christy's reply
Andy will be proud to hear that you have confused his song with the work of Woody
Delighted to hear you’re playing in Vicar St. in December. We’ll be home again for Christmas this year, Covid permitting. Are there nay pre-sale tickets being made available? I’d hate to miss the chance to see you again.
Christy's reply
Dear Listeners,
I’m delighted to announce the release of my new album “Flying into Mystery which comes out on the 19th November. Tickets will go on sale next Thursday 28th October. Really looking forward to getting back to singing the ballads. I hope ye will join me!
Here is a pre-sale link which will go live on Tuesday, 26th October:
Dear Christy,
Great to hear that the gig seems to have been so well recieved.
I worked out that all my gigs this autumn are from ireland in scotland…fontaines dc, declan o’rourke, joshua burnside and david keenan.
You lads over the water sure know how to perform!
The support act for fontaines were a fine lot from Cork called The Altered Hours….so good that i bought the cd.
Fontaines came on to Shane’s ‘the snake’ the man from Tipp is such a legend.
Anyway i trust you and yours are well.
I am going to try to see if i can get over for a vicar street gig as i imagine that getting across here becomes less likely after the virus debacle.
Regards
Rory

When fishermen are feeling good they feel it musically. They go down singing shanties to the danceflloor all at sea………
Looking forward to the album. ‘Clock winds down” is a poignant song with a beautiful videoclip.
