Dear Christy,
I meant to say that a bit of Dublin is over here on Friday as myself and my youngest ( charlie) are off to see Fontaines DC in Edinburgh.
How is your lad Andy, trust you are all well.
Rory
Dear Christy,
I had a notion for Billy Bragg and ‘Power in a Union’ so i stuck it on.
Bragg has a presence and a purpose, i imagine McColl must have been the same.

Hello Christy and All.,
You’re right Pam, John O’Dreams is a song of comfort to me. Such a time right now. I hoped that song and the bit of Tolkien might give some comfort to us here, particularly thinking of Hilary’s post. At least they do to me.
The most comforting song I know is Mandolin mountain.
Rebecca
Hi Christy and all,
Good idea Dave, if it’s not possible for Christy to do a gig over here, all us northerners could invade a Manchester cafe, although I think I’d spend most of the time with me gob open, everybody’s musical knowledge is so vast, still that pecan brownie sounds inviting.
Thanks for that John O’dreams link Rebecca, beautiful song, brings back many memories.

At length the Lady Galadriel released them from her eyes, and she smiled. ‘Do not let your hearts be troubled,’ she said. ‘Tonight you shall sleep in peace.’ Then they sighed and felt suddenly weary, as those who have been questioned long and deeply, though no words had been spoken openly.

Very sad news about Brendan Kennelly RIP. President Higgins perfectly sums up the recent losses…
No cafe trip today…just getting light and am enjoying the mellow sounds created by Karine Polwart and Pippa Murphy on ‘A pocket of wind resistance’. I regularly visit KP’s website, but just found http://www.pippamurphy.com A very talented composer/sound artist for film, theatre etc…I’ll be revisiting later, there are some excellent clips of her work. A perfect companera for KP.

I must dust off this ‘wish list’. Zeppelin, prior to their fifth and sixth albums would score quite high. Among the first renditions of ‘Stairway’ was sung in Belfast circa ’71. Will keep blowing off the dust. Are there more?
C. There’s a picture somewhere, an enormous arena. New York. McCormack standing, a huge audience, McCormack in the centre in full flow, no microphones, and an enraptured audience. A superstar when such terms didnt exist.
A great chat, brew and giant brownie with Rory. Excellent to share good chat and diverse music backgrounds…
I’m sorry not to have seen The Pogues, Neil Young, Rory Gallagher, plus others (but glad to have seen many favourites). We both agreed that it would have been superb to have seen John ‘Jacko’ Reilly – good that Rory has at least visited Boyle. Also, both appreciative of the numerous ‘Christy’ gigs we’ve seen in three countries… thanks to you for so much ace music and good mojo.
Dear Christy,
Despite the usual Madchester downpour i finally met Dagrab for a brew today on a flying visit to the Suffragette city.
It was almost as though you were there with us, swapping stories of gigs, records and discovery of your ‘stuff’ .
So next time its your twist.
We mused the topic of acts we wished we had seen but never did. Actually a fascinating subject.
I plumped for john Reilly, The Damned plus Davey Arthur and the Fureys.
Dave can fill you in on his thoughts, once he walks off the pecan brownie!
Wonder if you have any choices?
Take care
Rory

At the time of writing I feel content that,so far,I’ve heard all that I’ve been meant to hear…so much music reverberates around my puzzled head….highlights would include Mike Reinhardt Octet in a German Forest, Annie Briggs in a London Folk Club,Brian Wilson playing Pet Sounds in Dublin,Liam Óg & Paddy Moloney in Rynnes Cellar, Tony Linnane playing solo in a New York Pub,The McPeakes in St Clare’s Manchester, The McKenna’s in Merrion Row in 1965,Louis Stewart in THe Mags Gig, Sean Maguire & Josephine Keegan, Joe Burke & Frankie Gavin,Bothy Band in Scariff,on and on it goes….Martín Byrnes, The Grehans, Margaret Barry,Luke,

Coffee and Pecan Brownie in Suffragette City with you & Dagreb makes the list
Always interesting to ponder the desert island choices…if I could push my luck for a laptop and power supply – I’d be happy with access to last year’s lockdown sessions. There’d be chat as well as superb music – win win…
Greatly looking forward to ‘Flying Into Mystery’ and the chat that will ensue here!
Hello Christy,
Thankyou for what you said. Once again I’m overwhelmed.
It was a good start I felt like a duck to water. I hope there will be many more.
Rory sent me off to listen to Where I come from, the song. There’s something very special about that whispered version on the CD. The first time I heard it I listened so carefully to that close sound. There’s a beautiful live version too, is it just with guitar?
Here’s an ensemble version https://youtu.be/fEO2hlqwjJg
Dear Christy,
I have been listening again to the album Where I Come From and recalling what a fine collection of songs it is.
A bit like the Box Set it rolls on throigh decades of your singing and has a wonderful mix of songs and flow to it.
The art work on the cover is clever too but its the music i love.
Where i come from itself is a great song for all of us who do indeed treasure our own roots.
If ever i get stranded on a desert island i would want the Box Set with me as my companion but if it didnt survive the sinking then the Where I Come From album would be a good reserve.
Though a modest man you must be hugely proud of such work.
Keep on keeping on
Rory
Well done Rebecca , fine effort, the closest i ever got to a gig was ‘singing’ in the bath to a row of plastic ducks.
Today my copy of David Keenan’s latest vinyl album is being ‘shipped’. My nerves are a jangling. Here is a man who encapsulates the writing of Michael Considine, Wally Page and Shane MacGowan whilst singing with the spirit of Jacko Reilly, nick cave and mary black , and performing ( i see him in glasgow next month) with the ebullience of jimi hendrix, daniel o’donnell and shergar.
What then cried jo soap?

Well I hope the gigs keep coming. I was so excited when I heard that Ennis was reorganised. I thought I’d not be able to hear or see it, when it was cancelled all those months ago.
The original gig was a solo gig too, June 2020. Front row seats both nights. They felt like gold dust.
For me, I’ve been like a rocket on the launch pad this last year. But it has given me an extra year to get better at what I do. I’ve worked my socks off.
Finally did my first proper gig yesterday and it went well. All influenced by the art, practice and advice of Christy.

Dave and Rory, your outing sounds fun. I wish I’d been there.
Sometimes it’s rubbish being a woman. Always on the outside, never the same.
