First time I’ve done a double comment I think, but posted last one before reading guestbook. Thank you Rebecca, will check it out, what a lovely bunch you are. Pam
Hi Christy, have no problem at all with someone sending me any recordings or info. Hilary came up trump’s, just a few hiccups with my equipment but the brains of the family, teenage grandkids here today so hopefully it’ll get sorted. Can’t wait, thanks for the help. Pam
Hello Christy,
I looked round for an audience video for Pam. The best I’ve found is one posted by vicar street on twitter. 1 min 46, the last minute is you, very much from the audience’s perspective. https://twitter.com/i/status/1441382813064830985
I read what you said about the scary mystery of last year. Looking forward to this new album.
Thankyou for your very clear description of how you worked out Greenland. Really helped me with Billy Gray and Scarborough Fair. The guitar plays itself with C shapes. That’s completely where I’m at with the harp. If it doesn’t play itself then I don’t have enough brain to sing the song. Every chord is the same shape on the harp. I need the writing and chord names to be big, so I don’t have to think about playing them.
Sorted yesterday. Thankyou!
Steve demoed to me what you meant about the d and c shapes and the position of the capo. You sang it first in F, then moved it into E flat.
A number of famous people have recorded videos showing support for 100 per cent redress for mica affected families in Donegal, Mayo, sligo clare limerick.
The Mica action group was wondering if it would be possible if you could record yourself showing support for 100 percent?
We understand that this may not be possible due to schedule,
But if you can, you can send it to
I’ll see what I can do….no smart phone or filming device here…leave it with me..
Fair Play to Ye, ye are running a very important campaign….I hope all your elected reps are pulling their weight….what you are being forced to endure is tragic but also a disgrace…
Have to agree with you Christy on Mícheál Ó Domhnaill’s version of Lord Franklin it is special in fact I always found anything he sang special. He could’ve sang the telephone directory and it would sound special. I was lucky enough to get a copy of Skara Brae recently of Mícheál with 2 two sisters and Dáithí Sproule it really is a classic and as far as I’m aware they were all still teenagers when they recorded it. Very sad he died so young. Did you have any encounters with him?
Christy's reply
I knew Míchéal way back.In the early 1970s he was in a duo called “Munroe” with MIck Hanly. They did a tour with Planxty and I got to know him then. Later on he played guitar on “Little Musgrave” when I recorded it circa 1976. His rhythm guitar playing was an important component of The Bothy Band Sound. Himself,Tríona and Donal created a solid rhythm foundation upon which Paddy, Matt,Tommy (and later Kevin) did weave such beautiful, magical music….I saw The Bothy Band four times in the 1970s,I still listen to their Music
Thanks for your kind words Christy and Dave ‘re Billy Gray. Does the confidence no end of good. Brilliant advice re the tools a folk singer needs, I also found the ensuing discussion on plagiarism interesting with some great points made some of which have been duly noted. We’re currently working on a bunch of Planxty/Christy/Andy songs, so will be very careful as to how we describe them!
Great to read all the feedback from Vicar Street what a great venue. Just to let you know there is documentary about it on RTE1 at 10.30 tonight, looks good!
Christy's reply
Sound…good luck with your bunch of songs….bundle them up and lash them out !!!
Then we shall come to you Christy.
We could all do with a sing along to your tunes.
We leave bury on tuesday , via manchester, brixton, the rhine valley, fulham briadway, tadcaster ,stirling, and hawick on a big fan-bus to get the early morning good ship kangaroo ferry over to Larne, before heading down the N17 or whichever road takes us to your show room door.
Only one issue, we need a post brexit hgv driver for the bus….. and so we will probably just set off walking thanks to the oaf in number 10.
See you on the other side

Dominic Cummings is the man for the job..he’ll drive thru thick and thin to get his load to destination
Morning Christy,
The 5.20 race at the Curragh today is the Bord Na Mona Recycling apprentice handicap.
Will the Bord Na Mona man be riding?
A great fun song, often requested?
Have a good day

Via http://www.ucd.ie (and the search box) great news that Donal Lunny will have one of the artist – in -residence posts next year. What an enlightened Uni – lucky students…hope you get to visit.
Hi Christy and all
Many thanks to Kevin for that link, it certainly conveyed the atmosphere of your concerts, lucky people, it sounds like a great gig. Thnk jealousy is a very destructive emotion but am feeling the stirrings of it!!
Hope it won’t be long till it’s possible to see you here in UK. Pam
Christy's reply
perhaps someone might share an audience recording with Pam?…if Pam was interested of course?
dont know If I’ll make it back over to your side of the sea Pam…
Got to start with Pentangle, before Nic Jones, Christy… Bert’s haunting vocals were mesmerising the first time I heard the song at a Pentangle Free Trade Hall gig…Nic’s live take is gold too.
‘Lord Franklin’ was in our set list many moons ago, so in the absence of gigs, I’ll also give it a go on the stick dulcimer – such a fine tune for an evocative song.
Have a great day
Dave
Christy's reply
its one of those rare songs….it envelops….tried it a few ties but could not deliver…Michéal Ó Domhnaill’s version very special
Hello Christy,
That’s an amazing image
“the room came with me… felt as if we all floating on a picture of the sky”
Its happened to me in meditation a couple of times.
All of a sudden everything goes flat and its all here and floating.
Please can I ask, I hope this doesn’t sound weird, was the sky vertical or horizontal? Or maybe it wasn’t either.
So looking forward to hearing this song.
Sorry, I have another question, I hope you don’t mind. Can you tell us anything about the two approaches to the setting please?
Rebecca
Christy's reply
first time round I was doing it D shapes capo up 3…then I realised that I was having to think too much about my guitar accomp..I needed to free that up…I went for C shapes, very soon the guitar was playing itself, then I was able to immerse myself in the lyric and melody…the song is also on the limits of my vocal range, both top and bottom…..
I’m glad I asked about ‘Greenland’, thanks for the detailed reply – the new album is even more intriguing by the day…Terrific that it’s a new Paul Doran song. I thought it might be your take on the trad ‘Greenland Whale Fisheries’…
Tea now and am reminded to play ‘Lord Franklin today…
Terrific to read the gig feedback from both sides of the lights…thanks for posting the set list.
Did you use the Atkins throughout? I probably should know, but what song is ‘Greenland’?
I hope you’ve had a good day/ post gig buzz.
Dave
Christy's reply
Hey Dave…all will be revealed on Nov 19th !
“Greenland” is a new song from Paul Doran, I’ve previously recorded Paul’s “Natives” & “The Gardener”
Paul sent it to me when it felt like all the world was tumbling down.Hearing it for the first time I was smitten. His words seemed to describe our flight into the scary mystery of last year.I contacted him and he gave me the go ahead. This song has been a challenging and fulfilling excercise ..finding my way in, getting familiar with the strange uniqueness…I demoed it a year ago…then changed my approach and found a new setting….
it was extraordinary singing it the other night….the room came with me… felt as if we all floating on a picture of the sky….
Christy – absolutely great gig last night – you were on fire!!! Huge atmosphere despite the reduced crowd- everybody glad to be back at the live show – fitting too that the last live performance we saw was yourself with Declan, Jimmy & Cathal in Knightsbrook in Feb’20. Glad to be able to help you out in the middle of Sail On Jimmy too!!!!!!!!!!
Take care – thanks – stay safe
