Hi Christy….I’ve been watching “Count me in” on Netflix. And it is indeed a great documentary, though It packed up on me about three quarters of the way through ! I was hoping they’d show the combination of bodhran and percussion…a powerful rhythmic force in itself !!
One I used to like was BBC One, TV, Saturday evening. The results would come in on a ticker-tape system fast and furious from all four divisions. You’d want to be well up on your footie knowledge.
The Billy Connolly one I know is he tells people he is from Partick in Glasgow. The local team he say is called Partick Thistle, “not ‘Partick Thistle nil'”.
R. See what you started on a Sunday.

way way back went to old trafford with Billy and Gerry….George may have scored a hat trick but we were on the dimple
When I was a kid they used to read out the football scores on the TV on a, Saturday teatime.
You could tell what the score of each team was before they said it.. Higher scores had team names spoken on a higher note.
It was kind of hypnotic.

Dear Christy
Great to hear about the change to No Time for Love.
10 valiant men.
The main Celtic Supporters Group ‘North Curve’ have a great video out just now of their remembrance of the 10 including banners across the city.
Despite boardroom denial, fan elements at the club are remembering where we came from and what we stand for.
More power to your elbow, and to the boy from tamlaghduff and his comrades.
Now where’s my sporran?

Jack Warshaw’s (http://www.jackwarshaw.com) great song has always lent itself to occasional alteration….I first heard “No Time For Love” circa 1978 on a brilliant album from Belfast Band “Men of No Property” ( subsequently called “People of No Property”) I first sang this song with Planxty during one of reunions. It was a really exciting version with Liam tearing away on the pipes. We never recorded it but,I think, there may be bootleg versions out there. It was ,for me, the song that tied Moving Hearts together when we formed in 1980.It became the Band’s anthem during those troubled times. I still sing it and gave it an outing at the gig in Galway last Thursday night. 40 years on it provides a framework to remember fallen comrades.
Brian Moore was a member of the No Property band. For many years Brian was the cartoonist with Republican News under the pseudonym “Cormac”. I covered one of his songs (“Jesus Christ & Jessie James”)on a Bootleg called “The Spirit of Freedom”.This was later sequestered and expolited by WEA . I made that album as a fundraiser for Prisoner Dependents in 1983 but WEA got wind of it, confiscated it (legally) and bled it dry. I was naive when I signed their paper. In fairness,I should add that no Irish Label would touch Moving Hearts. They all dived for cover when we came along. Clive Hudson ,head of WEA, signed us and our first album went straight to Number One.
They took away Hurson,McCreesh, McDonnell and McIlwee,
O’Hara, Hughes, Lynch, Divine, Sands and Doherty.

Hi Christy … my husband is a massive fan and has been to many many of your gigs but never made it to Barrowlands which is his dream! He is 40 this November and I always dreamed that I would take him to a CM gig in Barrowlands for his 40th …. but now that can’t happen …. any idea when gigs might recommence …. I might have to gift him a promise of a CM gig in Barrowlands!!! We watched an enjoyed your online gigs in NCH through lockdown – thanks for entertaining us!! Can’t wait to see you back at what you do so amazingly well!!!!

who knows what way the wind is gonna blow…no plans for any gigs off the Island…that old hall in the East End of Glasgow has been a favourite gig of mine for over 30 years…dont know if I’ll get to climb the stairs from Bairds again where “to hell or to Heaven we go”….its industrial, its run down, its grungy, its grotty but it’s got spirit and its got soul…the ghosts of many bands ramble its ruin, the echo of 10,000 gigs hold the acoustics together..theres no Ballroom on this earth I’d rather play which is not to denigrate The Mayflower in Drumshambo, The Commodore in Vancouver, The Forum in Kentish Town,The Green Briar in Belfast. Dreamland in Athy, The Collins Hall in Clonmel nor a thousand other Ballrooms and their carousels
Well Christy I remember you playing in the pitch in Loughrea my memory recalls you doing Lanagans Ball on the bodhran, the Log Cabin was in Ballinasloe good to know ya have the turf home all done here too no gigs I played 3 gigs in O Connor s last September when things opening for 2 weeks nothing since they are getting sick of me at home every night but we have to remain optimistic

I pulled into The Log Cabin to play a gig in the early 80s…the Man of the House knew nothing about me or the gig…he asked had I any Posters whereupon he put one in the window saying “Live Tonight & 9PM”… had a grand gig

what a buzz to see the scoreboard last night in Pearse Park..only once before has that happened…Celtic Park, Parkhead about 20 years ago……and the singing last night was reminiscent of Barrowland…
hope you have a good game tomorrow..The Kingdom V Tyrone with Mayo waiting in the wings…..
What an evening in Salthill….. from the first chords of City of Chicago to Lisdoon….. it almost felt like a dam bursting open with the energy from the stage and the crowd carrying us along through the songs as the sun set behind the stadium.
On your feet and a cappella for Spancil Hill….. it was very special……
The Maroon T-shirt worked wonders…. good call Colm.

I was taken aback at the silence offered up for the quiet songs..the response to “Spancilhill” in memory of Michael Considine (1850-1873) was telling..”The Two Conneeleys” so well recieved and “Black is The Colour”in memory of Mary McPartlan (1955-2020)
Hi Christy,
What a performance you put on last night in Salthill.
It was great to finally get back to a live gig and what better way to get to it than to see yourself. Hopefully, there will be plenty more.
As a Derry man myself I loved when you performed Back Home in Derry. You also played a blinder with the newly titled “I Love Politicians”.
Hope to see you again soon.

there was such a pure energy flowing up to the stage from the crowd…I think we were all celebrating the return of something we have greatly missed
Brilliant to read the feedback from last night – sounds like a perfect location. The last time I was in Salthill, the rain was so heavy, there was zero visibility…it’s high on my ‘to return ‘list…no idea when that will be…in the meantime, if there are any audience photos of gig/ location (I’m a sucker for sea/sunsets!)it’d be ace if they could go on the gallery here, please – no worries, if not poss.
Enjoy today’s post gig buzz…

Dave…your “return list” must be as long as the Pennine way ….. there was a woman from Manchester at the gig last night..and another from Boston…..
It was fantastic to be in Pearse Stadium last night on a beautiful August evening as the sun set west! We came down from Newbridge for our first live gig in 18months – the last time we saw Christy was two nights in Kilashee Feb 14/15th 2020. Great to be back and an enjoyable evening! Love wasn’t lost, it just got mislaid.

We passed a few KE number plates on the way home last night….delighted to hear there were a few “Townies” of my own at the gig….Salthill always a favourite spot going way back….Myself and the late John Flood from Moorefield Lodge went to the Galway Races in 1963…we camped in Salthill and never made it out to Ballybrit….
