Great to hear the successful reports from thy Kingdom over the weekend.. hope it gave you the buzz of the ball being thrown in.. and now hopefully another step towards a full return..
I’ve been to many a gig & listened to many a recording but not heard you sing ‘The Boys of Barr na Sráide’.. did you know it was Páidí O Sé’s favourite song..
“And here’s a health to them tonight wherever they may be. By the groves of Carham river or the slope of Bean ‘a Tí”
Enjoy the day

shur were’nt you tearing it back to The Kingdom ( or Pairc an Chrócaigh maybe…)
There is a kind of a structure there, isn’t there. In Lord Baker. It could be called the tale of two journeys. I like that. You picked it up in your recording, with the interlude between.
Or it could be left completely fluid. It’s for a certain kind of listener, I think.

my fave version…after a gig in The Marquee,Cork with Dan O’Mahoney….out of the blue ,Lord Baker broke out
How did it go? How are you doing now? The news said it sold out in 3 minutes. We’re howling for it, aren’t we.
Its brilliant to see the crowds coming back to the rugby. They’re sprinkled around the stadiums, but they’re bringing themselves.
I’m loving singing the parting glass. Still at the listening stage with Lord Baker. You’re right about the fluidity of it. It has a shape like water. So beautiful.

Hi christy
Seamus noone from Donegal
Here
I just want to say on behalf of the people of Donegal, Mayo, sligo and Clare Mica and Pyrite groups a special thank you for your support of our Campaign.
Theres more people talking about it now more than ever and those who were afraid to admit they had Mica in their homes are talking about it now.
100 per cent redress for mica and pyrite affected families is now in talks with Government and since june 15th, a mica report group has been appointed by the minister for housing.
We March again in Dublin on July 31st.
Many thanks once again
Christy
Sincerely
Seamus Noone
Christy's reply
mine was but a tiny gesture of support..great to see your campaign gathering momentum
Good evening Christy,
It is fantastic to know that you donned the greasepaint again and srepped out into the colosseum of gigging afresh, well done.
For the recent Record Store Day i plundered Derry’s Cool Discs vaults for purchases and included in them is Dublin’s own Fontaines DC and their ‘live at Kilmainham Gaol’ LP.
Not only is it a fab record but it bears the following sleeve note…
It is an old cliche for historians to ask ‘if these walls could speak, what would they tell us?’ Fortunately ,the walls of Kilmainham Gaol tell us exactly how they feel. Faded with time, but still stubbornly there, are the messages of Ireland’s revolutionary generations. Over one door are the quoted words of Patrick H Pearse, poet and leader of the Easter Rising, thundering ‘Beware of the Risen People’. Perhaps the most evocative piece of graffiti in the prison reads simply ‘A Few Men Faithful and a Deathless Dream’…..
What a great place, in the big celled hall, to have a gig even without gig-goers.
Have you ever performed there, and if not would you?
Best regards
Rory
Christy's reply
Yes Rory…I sang there twice….the last time was in the Yard where the Leaders of the 1916 Rising were executed..
a german youth dean brought me to your music about twenty years ago at visit with a german church youth group to ireland. I visit your last concert in Hamburg. I ve seen your online concert from dublin at 1. May this year. First of all i like the lookdown sessions which are very personally from you to all the listeners. Perhaps there is a possibilty to get a signed CD from you.

Whoever said that map reading was less important as welfare hadn’t worked out the connection . Sod the psychiatric institution. A couple of days sitting barefoot on the grass with good friends and a guitar that tunes itself . Oh, plus a shed load of prozac and beta blockers.
Thank goodness for good management.
We’re all with you tonight. May it be wonderful. All good luck from me.
Brilliant – I’ve just seen about your Government welcome…that’s fantastic.
There’s a very different Govt ‘welcome’ here!!
Enjoy the buzz…D

with all the official duties done I can get down and prepare for a bit of work..after 18 months singing to myself its time for a fandango….and theres no Yates Wine Lodge in Kerry
Currently playing is the wonderful, multi artist tribute to Ewan MacColl – ‘Joy of Living’…
Once again, I’m also struck by superb tunes that underpin the magnificent songs. Martin Carthy does an ace job on ‘Champion at keeping ’em rolling’ (brilliant that the tune is ‘Johnny jump up’) and there are numerous other songs and players that resonate with posts here. You’re in fine company, being bookended by Martin Simpson and Billy Bragg!
I hope many other Guestbookers enjoy this album – the opening track is a storming version of ‘Schoolday’s Over’ by Damien Dempsey – not a bad start!
Have a brilliant day and gig… a gig – wow!

A Government welcome back to The Kingdom Of Kerry….55 years ago I was kickin about Suffragette City trying to get a floor spot at the MSG…if only these positive signs and good vibrations might continue back towards some form of normality….I’m constantly reminded..we did not appreciate how well off we were in those pre pandemic times

Hello Christy,
I saw the smoke curling in the air as I listened. That level of freedom is very difficult with an accompaniment, I guess. So, a voice alone. Or maybe a few sparse strummed chords. The parting glass is going that way for me right now. Its regaining its oldness.
Talking with musicians of the old ways. I’d like to join you and listen.
The very best of luck for this weekend. I wish I could be there. A request for a tour title must mean things are moving. I’m looking forward to hearing everyone’s suggestions. I’ll probably have several. Maybe the ancient ways tour.
Rebecca
I’ve never visited the area, but since first hearing the song, I feel ‘at home ‘ there… the exile’s laments and familiar characters evoke powerful, ageless feelings. There’s also an element of romance – and there’s nowt wrong with that…
As ever, thanks for the diverse repertoire, Christy.
Dear Christy,
We can all sit with the great John Reilly, thanks to a few people like you keeping his flame alive.
I return to Bonny Green Tree often.
You were lucky enough to be in his company in that wee pub in Boyle that now bears his plaque, so enjoy the recollection, and savour his presence with you now. Thanks for sharing his special memory christy.
Well done Rebeccah for her comments.

It is raining cats and dogs tonight her in bonnie Hawick Christy, and not sure why but it made me think of songs about favourite sites.
Gortatogort is no doubt a shining example of that, then sonething like Where I Come From is too.
Malcolm Middleton has a brilliant song ,about being down, called Loneliness Shines in which he sings ‘favourite place is Falkirk High Station’ , and why not indeed.
So i wondered, have you any other songs that sing of your favourite place?
Have any of the 4711ers?
Whilst i am a sucker for protest songs, ones about a person’s favourite place are often so heartfelt that they are irresistable.
Regards
Rory
