Following on from Rebecca’s points about tributes to Spanish Civil War volunteers (and other tributes,I’ve come across),I’m playing Viva la quinta brigada, as I’ve spent awhile perusing a variety of online info… For companeros who wish to know more, I’d recommend http://www.international-brigades.org.uk .It’s a mine of info – and, via the website search box, it’s possible to hunt down info about specific volunteers and their home places. What heroism was shown…
Always good to remember ‘Sweeney’s Men’- as fine an ensemble as any and definitely an inspiration to many a ‘folkie’…
Dear Christy, I was just writing to enquire as to when your online shop was branching out into the gift range?
I ask this after purchasing ( from an irish gift internet emporium) , a pendant for someone’s special birthday.
It is The Voyage charm in the shape of a couple in a boat on the sea with a heart.
Now there must be an opening in the marketplace for you to corner with similar ideas ,surely?
What about the Little Honda 50 ,dinky toy size, with 4 revellers placed precariously on the bike?
A joxer goes to Stuttgart leather football?
Mickey McIlhatton poitin shot glasses?
A range of Dinny’s men’s coloured tights?
A coffee table book of Saint Brendan’s coastline maps of the world?
Granny’s bin lid range for fliptop, industrial and wheelie styles?
January man calendars would go down a treat?
The very best selection of Flickering light reels to brighten every bunker?
And some Before the Deluge ponchos ?
Cheers
Rory

Scotish miners, Yorkshire miners, Irish Civil Rights Protesters, Liverpool Football Fans, all working class people waiting up to 40 years for justice. Is it any wonder when the people in charge of investigating these miscarrages of justice are appointed by the people responsible for them. We will probably be waiting another 20 years to find out how many people died due to the delayed responce to the Manchester Arena bombing and Grenfel Tower.distaster, and by the time we do those responsible will have either died or retired early on a nice fat pension.. ‘I hate politicians’.
Never near a hole in one, but had many a fine afternoon on the Stackallen pitch and putt course.Your achievement should have made the Chronicle, but a Slane celebration is always a good idea !
‘Prosperous’ is sounding as brilliant as ever on this gloomy morning…I can remember finding the LP in Rare Records on a work lunch break and giving it the first spin that evening…welcome to the wonderful sound of the embryonic Planxty and a fine mix of songs- happy days..

Support for Rory too, continue with the posts. We’re all dealing with awful news daily the tragedy of those young lives lost in the channel is heartbreaking.
Reminding us of the courageous lives of others is inspiring. Pam
Amen, Rebeccah. Our hearts and brains are connected, Rory. Last week I thought of Robert Sands for some reason. Was in 10th grade in a leafy suburban suburb of NY 40 years ago. Our press was all in on Ronnie and that psycho at 10 Downing. Miss Forde (who Dad knew to be from Galway Republicans) asked her class how many hunger strikers would die. All but one were certain they’d all give in. Miss Forde and I knew none would. At end of each week we checked in on matter. Many months before some got the picture. (Brother Sean was guest on yacht on Boston’s River Charles when topic was raised. Sean tossed Anglican boat owner overboard. Moore does that with his words!) 50 years ago we took an overnight ferry across Irish Sea from Dublin. Through porthole I saw men lash themselves by belt to railing as sea sprayed. One was lost. My first girl refused to believe this, claimed story was concocted. “The crown wouldn’t allow it.” I’m grateful for artists such as Christy and guests, whose head and hearts are connected to humanity and who express these connections.
Hey Christy, contrasting emotions today.
To awaken to the horrendous news that 5 members of the same Iranian family perished in the ‘english’ channel. Absolutely heartbreaking.
For all of our languages….
Tonight scottish news is on the other end of the spectrum . After nearly 40 years, the Scottish miners who were convicted for ‘crimes’ during the strike are to all be pardoned. This is just and fantastic news.
Taking tea with pinochet…
Apologies to anyone fed up of my droning on about ‘historical’ matters or ‘political’ issues, thankfully it usually leads to some music.

I consider you to be among our leading correspondants on this platform…bulletins from thon borders bunker are an essential part of our reading ….the word “drone” has other context ….the sound of Uileann Pipes is underpinned by the sound of three Drones…those drones are the very foundation upon which our native Music is composed….
a neighbour of mine is a divil with his feckin drone..forever spying upon us all, looking for scandal among the bushes, he has uncovered the tawdry behaviour of a nearby developer….and recently his wee sky plane provided vital evidence in high profile paternity suit. Murphy’s Rotweiler was getting blemt for the condition of Lady Mucksavage-Smythe’s miniature poodle….the drone provided vital evidence in establishing the truth…Father Fingleton’s Cocker Spaniel was the culprit..he roams the parish at night (with the priest’s blessing) …even the cats are in danger…that mutt would get up on the crack of a whip.. yet the Parish Priest continues to turn a blind eye..
Apart from your vital updates you continually reference songs from earlier collections…I must admit to feeling a contented glow when old work is remembered…keep it coming Rory….

So tough that so many people are ill with Covid. Thoughts to those battling and all who are supporting them.Your music means so much to so many. Thanks…
My Dad Neil McCafferty is one of your biggest fans. He has introduced myself and my 4 sisters to your music over 35 years ago and since we hold you in our hearts as one of our family. When dad turned 60 you kindly sent him a letter and a copy of your first album which he cherishes. Dad is now currently fighting for his life with COVID. As we can visit him we are only allowed a video call once a day where we try as a family to will him on to fight this terrible virus. We have the wonderful nurses playing a CD of your music hoping he can hear it to help encourage him and will him on to come home to his loving family. Can I ask that you remember him in your music and send him best wishes to will him on as it would mean so so much to us and him.

The talk of Connemara got me digging out an old scrapbook. Did a 3 month roadtrip, played ‘K Club’, ‘European Club’ ‘Old Head of Kinsale’, ‘Ballybunnion’, ‘Killarney’, ‘Tralee’ up to ‘Dingle’, Tipperary… Up to Portrush/Ballycastle. Royal County Down. Portmarnock. Druids Glen. Mount Juliet… To name a few… Then back home, handed dads Volvo back with a bit of mileage on. How I do hope to return. If I knew then, what I know now… ‘Prosperous’ !!! Hello Christy,
I’m listening to, Frank Harte this morning. That ear of his is steady as a rock. His songs tell the stories. I listened to Dunlavin green on the it a website. It made me think of Viva la Quinta Brigada. Do you feel as if that song came from a similar stable? There are two benches outside Halifax Town Hall with plaques commemorating two local people who were there. A man and a woman. She went as a nurse I think. I’ll try to find more details.

Hello Christy,
Here’s an article about recording cows. There a sweet video at the end. It looks like they like a goog jig.

As I read Rory’s stockist I was wondering about a Lisdoonvara weekend in Amsterdam lifestyle store. I’m thinking it could be pretty big.
You mentioned the drones on the Uilleann pipes underpinning the music we love so well. Is this too complicated to ask about here?
Rebecca
Sharon never fails… milk yields will have soared in that Dungarvan herd..
I need a gig
