Hi Christy
Love your lockdown sessions really comforting during these troubled times and your voice and collection of music is fascinating and in awe of your talents and mind. I’m wondering if there’s any way to contact you privately as I wrote a song about two brothers in a place called shanaglish Co Galway (Loughnane Brothers)and thought you might like it. Keep her lit
Christy's reply
Always liked that name…Shanaglish…reminds me of Shanagolden..which in turn reminds me of “Translations”, Brian Friel’s beautiful Theatre Play ..I’ve seen it a number of times..will never forget Frances Tomelty in the Abbey Theatre production…
you’ve made contact, if you wish you could post your lyric here
Hi Mr Moore, I’m Frédéric, living in Paris. I’m fifty today and I’m very pleased that my wife, Claire, offered me (us) a ticket to one of your concerts on 2021 June 26 in Cork! This will be an opportunity for me to come back to Ireland, where I went in 1984 (another century!), and where I had the pleasure of attending one of your gig in Arklow (still got a photo with you:-). While waiting for the new album, and the June concert, wish you a nice day. Fred.
Christy's reply
I’ve got two dates in my 2021 diary..the Cork Marquee being one of them..I got my fingers crossed….1984 !……George Orwell got his year wrong but his prediction right
Hi Christy.
Must first tell you I love everything you have sung.
Christy I have always wondered, dId you ever get asked to take part in the BBC Transatlantic Sessions, Aly Bain program.
To me it seemed unbelievable that with all the celtic stuff they did and you were not part of it, Transatlantic Sessions was absolutely made for you Christy, I have never gotten my head round why you was not featured!
I mean this sincerely and not just ‘pissing up your back’.
I would love to know why we never saw you on this series.
You and your kin Stay Safe, dont take the risk with this bug but dont stop singing.
Christy's reply
I shared some good times with Aly when we were both starting out. We played some snooker, shared a few wee drams..back then he was playing with Mike Whellans..I always enjoy seeing him on the Sessions…its a great series..I love the way it flows without the intervention of tedious presentation….I’ve missed out on many TV programmes for a variety of reasons….
Great to read that ‘Universal’ are doing a good job,in the right way re ‘Early Years’. Are you or a knowledgeable companero, writing sleeve notes? Sorry, that other recording is on hold, but ,if you’re enjoying the prep, then all’s good,I hope.
As ever, interesting reading via http://www.folkradio.co.uk – for listeners, the latest show has a great track listing from old/new artists and is always fascinating.Ace,if there’s an ‘Early Years’ article/track there in due course.
Enjoy the day.
Dave
Christy's reply
Sleeve notes have been compiled and written by Leagues O’Toole.
Leagues was editor of (the late) Irish Music magazize Foggy Notions.
He also presented the Irish TV series “No Disco” and wrote “The Humours of Planxty”
Dear Christy,
Listening to the wonderful Burning Times album whilst sleep evades me, the songs Mercy and Changes are particularly calming sounds ,but with thougjt provoking lyrics.
It got me thinking to ask, How are you?
We possibly take it for granted , when blundering into your daily existence, that life for a ‘superstar’ is caviar, gold taps, care-less-ness and wall to wall botox, but really, how are you?
I know you won’t believe in stardom, you are ,after all, just one of us.
However it is a fair undertaking to interrupt your day to reply to us all ,listen to our ramblings, rantings, musings and enquiries, and take the time to respond like a music-hall agony aunt.
Are you well, do you find time for yourself, are you able to get to meet all your family, is the bicep up to scratch etc?
You know i don’t seek answers to all or any of these questions, but what i suppose i really mean is…..stay well, look after yourself and your dearest, and thanks for just being there.
G’night
Rory
Christy's reply
Thanks for asking Rory…..most of the time we’re doing fine,Thanks Be…. sometimes a bit ruffled when the Black Dog barks but I gotta lot of reasons to be thankful ….
I enjoy these conversations and welcome the company encountered here….its an easy going part of my daily routine ,dropping into the chat room to see who’s knockin about….
For 30 of my years I spent a lot of time on the high stool with my head in the bottle…in recent decades I’ve been able to spend more time on positive activities, this being one of them…
Time is very precious.
The bicep will not heal. That would require surgery which might not be successful .Its a matter of daily excercises to strengthen the four remaining biceps. Being the upper right arm, it does impact on playing….but it survived the recent NCH and Lisdoonvarna outings….
The approaching launch of “The Early Years” album is gaining momentum….I’ve had very little involvement … all the heavy lifting done by the Record Company….but they kept me in the loop and ran everthing past me….I appreciate that for its not always been the case with other labels in the past….I’ll not bore you with details ! ( WEA & Polydor spring to mind !)
We were due to commence recording a new album next week but the condemic has forced us to pandemone….this gives me even more time to prepare and I’m enjoying the work….
I miss meeting up with the Companeros, I miss the roar of the greasepaint and smell of the crowd….but ,looking at the world picture, I got nothing to complain about..
I enjoyed making that Burning Times album with Declan. Most of it done at his home in Cork City. “Mercy” never worked out live but I love some of the lines. “Changes” has had a few outings.
Fair Play to you…as they say in County Clare, “Up The Banner”
Great chat here from near and far – and a fine buzz about the forthcoming release.
‘Little Musgrave’ certainly captures a lot of listeners’ imagination. It has everything in terms of a dramatic story and ace tune.Liam O’Flynn certainly summed things up well. There are also some good online features about the epic and its location near the picturesque (now politically infamous) area around Barnard Castle.
Your namesake correspondent might also be interested in Martin Simpson’s version on ‘Prodigal Son’ +youtube. A few extra lines added, but what’s a trad song without that?
Good luck with multi tasking and enjoy the evening.
Brill Christy thanks for the link to pre-order. Done and dusted. Brilliant list, funny most of the songs I mentioned in comments here are included, among them Cricklewood and Avon Dale, streets apart but very close too.
Glad I could help Bryan out, yes us connecting and helping/getting help is a very important thing. I look forward to the day when Rebecca can bring her harp over here for a beautiful evening of music. Other talents also very welcome.
And a big shout out to you Christy for supporting ‘free enterprise’ with the ‘sharing’ of your music. Really decent.
Thinking of doing a ‘private’ showing of your DVD in our wee clubhouse when it arrives in Nov, if that is OK with you. We had a sad but good session last Friday. 5 musicians in a distanced circle 5 guests, plus two dogs. First Guinness drawn there since St. Patrick’s Day. Nice stew. All to welcome Nora, new born to our host and clubhouse owners Kerstin and Hanns Georg. Usually there are 25 musicians and about 80 guests…. But good to make even a wee ripple in the cove.
Keep safe, and if you see your man Michael from Dundalk, your prompt meystro, say hi from me. He looked after us very well in Frankfurt…..
Christy's reply
I’ll pass that on to Michael…
That “showing” you mention sounds enticing..hope it all goes well
Hello Again Christy and all of you kind folk here.
Listening to some of my favourite tracks here and I have just delved back in to the Planxty, the woman I loved so well album and your Prosperous Album.
Two of my favourite albums of all time and the quality of the recordings not just for the time they were done, but if they were done today you’d still be amazed at the pureness of them.
For some reason I had thought the song little Musgrave was on the prosperous album or a separate Planxty album, as I used to play and sing it myself when I first started learning and plying my trade as a “messer” as my family would call it.
It’s a song I want to revive in to my own personal favourites that I play now when I’m at home, alone, waiting for all of this to blow over.
Have you ever recorded this on any other Album or recorded any other versions of this song as I would like to think my mind isn’t playing tricks on me in regards hearing it somewhere other than that particular planxty album?
Hope you are all keeping well

Niall,
The first time I recorded it was on an album simply called”Christy Moore” in 1976.
Then there was the Planxty recording you mentioned…it also featured on the 2004 Planxty Live album ….such great memories of my old buddy Liam Óg who spent most of his life in the “short grass” and ended his days near Athy which he loved dearly….on that last Planxty recording I remember the end of Musgrave…Liam turned and said..”sounds like a man at the top of his game”..he was a man of few words so the memory lingers..
Speaking of Athy I must extend congrats to the victorious Athy team who defeated my own old club Moorefield in the Senior County Final last sat… circumstance prevented my being there…
What a miss ‘live’ music is… Was supposed to see Richard Thompson at Whitley Bay Playhouse in July.
Last time I was at the Sage was to see Tony Joe White…
Just discovered your lockdown sessions, very impressive.

Dalesman’s litany is there.
I heard you sing it at the first gig I saw of your’s in York in May 2018? I don’t know if I’ve got the year right.
I felt so grateful that you sang a local song. I started to learn it straight away and sang it at the Brighouse festival that October. I can’t find a recording so I must have learnt it some other way. Looking forward to hearing it.
Thankyou, my meds are back in order, and so am I.

Hy Christy, just a wee question The recordhub has posted a link to pre-order your new release, The Early Years, on white vinyl, 6 albums. Is that the place to buy, or will you have a sales bit on your site?
hi Christy hope all is well with you and all the gang i just wanted to find out if your new album is going to be available in the golden discs

Hello Christy,
Reading your guestbook lovely memories are coming up (as many times before) … The Premier Ballroom in Thurles!!! We saw you and Declan playing there in August 2008 – it was a very special gig for us and it was the day we met Hilary for the first time. Still have the setlist and beautiful Beeswing is part of it!
We’ll never forget that funny venue. The host of our B&B had told us it would date back to 1965 and the hall absolutely looked like that – wonderful!
Already looking forward very much to your next album “The Early Years”!
Best wishes,
Traudel

I’ve always loved quirky ramshackle venues…..Barrowlands,Glasgow tops my list..others would include The Forum in Kentish Town, Dreamland in Athy (County Champions) Mayflower in Drumshambo and The Old Ballroom in Gleneagles,Killarney……..hope you two have a safe and happy October

Hy Christy, just a wee question The recordhub has posted a link to pre-order your new release, The Early Years, on white vinyl, 6 albums. Is that the place to buy, or will you have a sales bit on your site?
Prob not Pat….I’ll check that out….
hi Christy hope all is well with you and all the gang i just wanted to find out if your new album is going to be available in the golden discs
sure will John…Tescos ,Aldi ,Lidl and Rasher Conlons too..we’re trying to get it into Brown Thomas Lingerie Department but we’re meeting fierce resistance
Hi Christy,
