Good morning Christy,
This week is summed up, on both sides of the Atlantic, with Impeachment and ‘Election’ , by the hope and fear of the yellow disc. In particular my son Charlie and I trip, time and again, to the powerfulness of your ‘The powdered milk brigade’…’Destroying cultures, Demeaning customs, Hypnotising innocent minds’, and fear the future come Friday.
We live in hope thanks largely to the music…and the juice of the barley for me.
I hope you have a peaceful rest of the week, keep up the protest songs, and all power to Greta , your good self and the lads.
regards
Rory

Hi Christy. Myself and the brothers (Paul and Tomás) successfully completed our annual pilgrimage to hear you sing in Vicar St again last night. Thanks to yourself, Declan, Vicky, Cathal and Jimmy for a lovely evening of music. It felt to me like you brought in maybe a slightly higher quota of the upbeat numbers than usual but that’s no bad thing. You still struck a lovely balance over the course of show and had the air of a man who was very relaxed and really enjoying himself. Burning Times made for an emotional moment. Lyra McKee’s death was so horribly sad and your dedication of the song to her on the night was a fitting tribute to her. Good luck with all the upcoming gigs and hopefully we’ll see you in Vicar St in December 2020.

fair play to U3
Vicar St leppin again these nights
I’ve never surveyed a set list for that particular quota…must suss it out….thanks U3 for ongoing support
Hi Christy
My son is home from Melbourne for Christmas and goes back on 29th December. I wanted to take him to see you but I left it too late and it’s sold out. He’s never been to see you but so loves your music. When he goes back on 29th I don’t know when he’ll be back again. He thinks I have tickets but I don’t. I was wondering If anyone reading this knows of anyone selling tickets I would be most grateful if you would keep me in mind for the Monday or Tuesday as these are the only dates before he goes back. I took my daughter to see you in Bundoran in October for her 30th and she is now your no 1 fan. Your music is always playing in our house. Please keep me in mind if you hear of anything. Many thanks Mandy
Christy,
I’m sitting in the airport, smile on my face and tears in my eyes, thinking about the show last night at the Vicar. I waited 25 years to see you live! Thank you for the great evening and the years of important work. Happiest of holidays to you and your family. See you next year at the Vicar!
Buck
Christy's reply
Thanks for droppin by Buck….glad you had a good night in Vicar St….these old (and new) songs bring so many of us together from far flung corners…my life has been enriched by seam of songs that has run through, by all the people I’ve met, by all the listeners who show up and chorus along….hope you have a good trip back to VA….( I don’t know whether that’s Virginia or Vancouver !…either way, have a good trip)
Magic nights in Vicar Street!!! Our spirits were sky high! Go raibh mile mhaith agat!
Christy's reply
fáilte romhat Aisling…I kept reaching to include the Coill Dubh song….but Tom Tuohy just flashed past me every time….and him with neither light nor helmet
A great fan of your Music since the 70’s, hope you will do
a tour in Canada or USA !!!

Ah, good will and and God Bless, towards all men, women and children, animals too. I hope you all have enough to eat and are loved. You are loved, even if not by human love. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tMraYdklSOE
Just got back in from Vicar St, what a night, what a gig, what a performance you were on top form. The finale of “ No Time For Love” sounded every bit as powerful as from a Hearts gig in the early eighties, and thank you again for Morecambe Bay

That was the best Audience Singing I’ve ever encountered in Dublin….Ye were magnificent….I was totally spent after…took 3 cups of Mint Tea for me to revive
Hi Christy,
Loved the gig tonight at Vicar St. Many thanks for the lovely version of Bright Blue Rose. It was very special. Looking forward to many more nights of great music. Happy Christmas. Thank you. Joy
Christy's reply
Bright Blue Rose is one of a small number of songs that constantly elicits entirely different versions…last night it carried me away…it sung itself….I’ve never spoken to Jimmy Mac about these verses….whatever subject matter was intended, it rises above definitive interpretation….last night I glimpsed the white light..and I sensed El Duende
I’m home from America with my wife for those first time in 4 years! This is our first trip as husband and wife. We will see you in Vicar St tomorrow night with my Dad! We have a numbered painting of you, what’s the chances of getting it signed tomorrow before or after the gig?
Christy's reply
If you want to give it to one of the stage crew…..
but
if its anyway big you should reconsider the hassle of hauling it along
you might leave it in a pub
if its put before me ,I’ll gladly sign it
but be warned
I dont hang about after
I’m serving 7 o’clock mass on wed morning and the priest is a hoor for time keeping
Hi Christy,
Hope you have a great show tonight. My God son Ben Breslin will be at your show tonight with his father celebrating his 18th birthday. I live in Denmark and can’t be home in Dublin to join them. Please if possible could you give him a shout out from his uncle Karl in Denmark. All the best Karl Gregg
Christy,
No more sleeps!!!! And we’re feckin delighted!!!! Looking forward to tonight.
Hope the run of gigs in Vicar Street are the sweet spot they’ve been in the past and yourself and the lads thoroughly enjoy them! All the best!

Just popping by on this very windy evening.
I’m immensely enjoying the album “Magic Nights”…. the world is graced with the 26 tracks that you have gifted us.Fair play to all involved .
Quick question (if you don’t mind me asking) , was there any songs that went really close to being included that didn’t make it onto Magic Nights.?
Not that I think there’s anything missing I think there’s a great blend mixture and variety there but just wondering. . .
I wish you the best of luck for the Vicar St. gigs , a chara.

P.S.
Funny coincidence because I had requested a pen knife from the auld man across the north-west passage with the white beard.
The other day I was looking in the press for the meter box and I found a pen knife that Dadó had hidden in there for years..
Same thing a few weeks back came across an old harmonica he had.Flat out on it since .Hes left stuff for me all over the shop.
Christy's reply
Fair Play to you CS….your post reminds me of my own (maternal) Dadó Jack Power. When I was about 8 he brought me into Giltraps Hardware Shop in Lucan and bought me a pack of cabbage seed…he showed me how to sow them in a box… as the seedlings grew to plants he prepared the soil and showed me how to space the young cabbage plants ..how to protect them from snails and slugs….together we watched them grow fine heads and when the job was done he paid me and my Granny Elly Power cooked us up a grand feed of Cabbage, Bacon and Floury Spuds….
There were other songs in the reckoning for “Magic Nights” I dont have the list at the moment..I’m in Vicar St now..we begin the first of ten nights here in an hour’s time…
the Harmonica is a lovely instrument..can be very soulful on quiet songs but also can drive along on the Jigs and Reels
Hiya Christy, big favour to ask. My friend and his girlfriend are celebrating 12 months together tomorrow night and we will all be at your show in Vicar street. Wondering if you could give a shout out to the happy couple Ronan & Sophie on their anniversary when you sing Ride on. It’s their favourite song and it would mean a lot to them as they first met at a gig of yours in Cavan. Can’t wait for the gig!

Afternoon Christy,
I’ll be in attendance tomorrow night for your gig in vicar street! Can’t wait!
Just a little question for you, I’m bringing my girlfriend Niamh for her birthday, and I know you’ll be debuting your new album, but if you could play beeswing for her birthday, I know she would love it and it would make her night. I understand if you don’t get to play it.
All the best,
Luke

Joy’s first gig was in the Ed Burke theatre in Trinity College in the late 70s/ early 80s. We’ve inherited her love for the music and have been to see you across the country since….a particular highlight was a gig in Kilashee House about 5 years ago with our grandmother in attendance too. She still reminisces about what a great night it was!
Keep it up and Happy Christmas.

Hi Christy
Sad to say that John Lennon has been gone almost as long as he was here…born in the 1940 Liverpool blitz-departed 8/12/80…
I recently saw the excellent Lennon/Ono ‘Double Fantasy’ exhibition in Liverpool…now finished, but well worth seeing,if/when it resurfaces…Ms O was/is so under valued. The show goes a long way to rectify this.
Time to play ‘In My Life’ and have a cuppa…then more of ‘Magic Nights’-much more…D

Our family are big fans and regulars at your gigs. We’re all enjoying Magic Nights and I’ve bought my tickets for the marquee next June already. My Mother, Joy and brother, Patrick are heading to Vicar street on Monday for their annual pre-Christmas trip. Mom went to her first gig nearly 40 years ago and would love a shout out and a rendition of bright blue rose, if possible.
Thanks a million.
Regards,
Aidan
