For legal reasons your offer cannot be fulfilled….about 20 years ago ( I was 55 at the time) I sought to fulfill a similar engagement…at that time I’d been off the drink for about 10 years…when I got to the venue it turned out that the groom’s uncle was an old drinking buddy of mine in our London days in the 60s….he insisted and in a moments weakness I said “OK but just the one”……..well Tracey, what happened next must never be repeated….
to briefly summarise …..I ended up in the Barracks, my old Buddy in Consilio’s, the Bride & Groom called off the Honeymoon, the Best man spent the night in the Bridal Suite with the Celebrant, ( a lovely young Priest ,not long ordained,) there was mayhem…it all kicked off as I sang the first verse of The Voyage…by this stage I was as pissed as a newt and I fell in on top of the Wedding Cake ( a beautiful 5 tier confection from Ashers Bakery in Belfast, the bride & groom were straight)…. what ensued was not pretty…..The RUC were called, it was a pre-PSNI wedding….I’ll cut a long story short….the Judge barred me for life from attending weddings……..So there you have it Tracey…I wish you,your intended and all belonging to you a beautiful and joyful day in Casteknock….I’ll be doing Lough Derg for my sins

Last but not least,45 years today,since Nick Drake died (at 26)Treasured (hazy)memory to have seen him play a support set for Fairport in 1970 and today will be spinning ‘Five Leaves to ‘brighten the Northern Sky’…

Dear Christy, good news about the long johns. I’ve just this minute returned from The Regent Street Cinema having watched the final film documentary from the Irish Film Festival London. It was Cumar – A Galway Rhapsody. In it no less our own Roisin Seoighe. (I now know how that is pronounced) whose songs were quite perfect. There’s something deeper than years in that voice. There were others including Rita Ann Higgins, the poet, and amongst others Tommy Tiernan. All speaking from the heart of the beauty of Galway and the wild surrounds of Conamara. There’s so much art, but so much wildness. Beautiful film of a beautiful place. I’m reminded of going to see you in WestPort on the fateful morning when we awoke to the sound of freedom no longer ringing. I’d recommend the director and producer (Paddy Hayes!) should you wish to make another film. Anyhoo I hope you see it. Xx

We’re hooked on Magic Nights …. it is a great treasure to have these live recordings of so many great songs on the last two releases… it’s some collection of music perfection. …

Gang of us have got our tickets got for this coming Friday night in Charleville.
Our man Small Jerry was there in the Marquee when you recorded the song Sail On Jimmy!
He was telling us for months after about it untill you released the CD.
As it happens, there isn’t a young lad in our parish that doesn’t know the chorus from listening to Small Jerry!
So if you don’t play it Friday night you might have trouble getting the barricade lifted to let you out of Charleville ha!
Can’t wait for the show Christy, and ride on!

that said Yoko, if the barricades were down I’d have no problem Hangin out in Rathluirc, a dip in The Maigue and a verse of the Ding-a-ling

Where else in the World has such a magnificent production been done ….. Song choices, Photography, commentaries, overall presentation,,,,,,, MAGIC. 🎶🎶

I was listening to the album at 12 o clock this morning as soon as it was up on spotify I loved it especially songs like Matty, Sonny, The reel in the flickering light and Magic Nights in the lobby bar songs I havent heard in a while. My favourite song on it is Rosalita and Jack Campbell what a beautiful song. Thanks to yourself and Declan for a great show in Gorey a couple of weeks ago I really enjoyed it Fairytale of New York really stood out for me that night it was magical.I Cant wait for the late late tonight and looking forward to the gig in wexford next year.
