I grew up listening to all your songs on the record player. Now 31 still love all your songs.

I remember the filling station well..I got 8 gallons of premium, quadruple Green Shield stamps, 2 bags of Tayto,a bottle of club orange and got change out of a five pond note

Krumlin was incredible…Barkisland was like a wasteland after the hurricane past…but I got to play on the same bill as Fairport Convention, Elton John, Pentangle, Fotheringay, Hamish Imlach and Jo Anne kelly ……my flat mate Derek was the “brain” child behind that festival aided and abetted by a Brighouse impresario who went on to achieve great fame in another field….
no word yet from Outer Mongolia but I have my fingers crossed that thon Banjo man will be back in time for our next soiree below in the County Carlow

I howked out again the fascinating cd of Gerry Divers ‘speech project’ today, what a treat.
Putting spoken words to music strikes me as being so hard yet this little known project has such gems within it, fabulously melded together.
Some of the spoken pieces on your Box Set are also rare treats ,and then to learn of the Lost Tribe coming to the stage recently was great.
Yet i went to a gig of Natalie Merchant a few years ago where she put music to her poems and felt it didn’t always work, such a difficult art.
Anyway, Maragret Barry telling of her mother, to Gerry Diver’s lilting tune was just a wonder to behold.

Last night ,Gerry Divers “Speech Project” was mentioned by Martin Hayes at “The Masters Of Tradition”Festival in Bantry ,County Cork…..we have just enjoyed 5 days of Music….heard a number of Musicians for the first time….what a buzz to hear new exponents explore old music and create new settings….Liam O’Connor, Pádraic Keane, Yvonne Casey, Lise O’Neill to mention 5 who shone brightly…as always Martin Hayes and Denis Cahill were lynchpins…..Steve Cooney and Dermot Byrne also shone brightly as did Cormac Begley and Síle Denver..

Brian, I too love “The Phil” in Liverpool..I plan to have my Honda 50 tattoo inked in by then…..currently in Bantry,County Cork at “The Masters of The Tradition Festival”. What’s the name of the reel that’s done at the end of McIllhatton? I’m learning the song and I’d like to play the reel at the end. I can learn it by ear but it would be good to know the name too. I can’t find it anywhere, Shazam thinks it’s Japanese so I’m guessing that’s wrong! 🙂
Cathal played the reel in Galway and it’s the same one on the On the Road album.
I’m a singer and I play the harp, I sing songs and accompany myself. So far I’ve learn’t 6 songs, I’ve been going seriously for about 6 months. I played my first solo gig in Halifax a couple of weeks ago. McIlhatton will be my 7th song.

Rebecca…I’ll have to check in with the Reel department to answer your query…I’ll get back to you..they are currently performing in Outer Mongolia on a cultural exchange buzz…my fear is that they might not return..anything can happen when a Tyrone Banjo player goes to sleep in a Yurt…over the years we have lost some of our greatest players on these cultural exchanges…one Bodhrán player was lost on the Himalayas and a famous piper never returned from The Paps…
I lived in Halifax 50 years ago… The Upper George was a favourite watering…also frequented The Causeway Foot, Mixenden and The Anchor in Brighouse..left there after the infamous Krumlin Festival..apart from that schimozzel,great memories

I well remember the Polydor records (still have them…),the Transit van and the exceptional sound engineer plus PA…superb,layered sound.A real ‘live’ treat.
Great memories of Cuba,a few years back.Music paradise.I might be making it up (very likely,these days!)but,do I recall a fine anecdote of yours involving long haul (poss no duty free)Cubana/military flights to Cuba? What gigs were there?Hopefully,Andy Irvine’s also been busy visiting the Cuban highways and byways,in pursuit of an old song…

Indeed and there was such a flight…from Shannon to Havana on an aged Ilyushin jet…like nothing ever experienced..back then all Russia/Cuba flights used to refuel in Shannon.an enterprising Kerry Tour Operator saw the potential for Irish tours to Cuba and we took the opportunity..twas about 30 years ago that we set off for Cuba with our buckets and spades… a truly memorable visit to that beautiful Island….I was not gigging, just ligging….altho I did get to sing “The Good Ship Granma” for a band of Russian Soldiers who were liberating large bottles of Russian Vodka..sang “Morrissey and The Russian Sailor” too but one of them took exception when Morrissey floored the Russian in the 82nd round

Just spent a fun few minutes on a website for the ‘Million Dollar Bash’ festival,,,on the Isle of Wight…31/8/19…as well as being a famous place for drunken maidens (trad arr hen do’s)…the isle is marking 50 years since Dylan headlined the 1969 festival… http://www.allwightnow.com (no kidding!) has info about the 2019 lineup,inc Richard Thompson .

No Dave,never made it out to the Isle of Wight….played Jersey, Guernsey, Sherkin Island,Cape Clear, Inis Oírr,Inis Maan, Inis Mór, Cuba, Jamaica,Randall’s Island and Tasmania…as far as I can recall thats about the extent of my Island chanting….pulled into Honolulu once for petrol (on a flight from Sydney to Los Angeles ) but we were in and out in no time…..

I keep checking back on the gigs page here, and doing the Google searching and even the Ticketmaster tango but all to no avail so far. Any news on Glasgow gigs when you’re on this side of the puddle Christy? I missed out on tickets for the last time (those Celtic fans are fast and well organised for ticket buying!!!) and I’m damn sure I’m not going to miss out again! Fingers crossed.

What a fantastic show last night in leisureland and anybody lucky enough to have tkts for tonights show are in for a treat.
I took the boat out to Inis Oirr this morning and looking over at Co.Clare I have to say two things, thanks for the mention of ‘this is for Dan from Milwaukee’ and number two, paid tribute to Michael Considine in such a legendary way before you sang his Spancil Hill and then into Lisdoon.
The tribute also to Lyra was extra special.
You nearly covered the whole of the county Galway with songs taking in Ballybrit to Mountbellew and who can forget the requested Beeswing and the Voyage.
I’ll pass on your nod to the rest of the Mikwaukee5😉 when I catch up with them.
