Big fan, Heading to the gig in vicar street, (even dragging the burd along with me!)cant wait, Odd Question is there an email address you have access to l that I can send a message to that’s not as public as this forum? a business address or agents address or something,
Christy's reply
This is as far as I go….once the work is done I run for the hills, try and keep the head down
It’s less than a week before your first December Vicar St. gig…and two days before I head over to Eire. I’ll be at the 10th, 11th, 17th and 18th shows…and ready to fly my freak flag. Gosh, I hope people stand up at these shows.
Checking out the Dublin music scene this month it appears that many Irish artists/bands are coming home to perform gigs before the holidays…with free days on the 18th. Hmmmm…feeling a Christy and Friends vibe coming on…
Your honest tunes have been on constant rotation in the Meehan household so much so that my Shit-Kicker and Metalhead friends have been wonderin’ what’s up. I’ve been teaching them about some real feckin’ honest music. “Rory Is Gone”… Nice fretwork on that song…always reminds me of that fateful day we lost another guitar god, the Patron Saint of Austin, Stevie Ray Vaughn. Got to see SRV at Antone’s during my university years. I was completing my last semester at University of Texas when I heard that news…Speaking of Austin, when will you perform in the Live Music Capital of the World? Seriously, Austin City Limits screams for you!
I’ve been doing my musical homework analyzing set lists and geeky statistical stuff like that. Part of the fun being a fan of a great artist/band with a massive catalog and rotating set lists is trying call the show. Just like us “Heads” do with Grateful Dead, Widespread Panic, Phish, Gov’t Mule, Umphrey’s McGee, Willie Nelson, and other “Jam” Bands. That leads me to wonder what musical gifts you’ll be giving this Christmas…deep tracks, banned songs, covers…
Whatever you give, Santa Christy, I welcome every note and every chord with open ears, open heart and a Texas-sized smile!

both Shane and myself are permanently ensconced here upon the Island..
Wild Horses would’nt get me on an aeroplane..as for that Queen Mary !
I’d rather swim the ocean,if only for nights in Ballyhack
hey Christy. Jim bob here – you played BUTTERFLY for me in Ballybunion during the year as a tribute to my late sister Ena- well my son Sean wrote and sang this for my sisters funeral in January and only got to putting it up this week- if you get a chance copy n paste it into fb and give it a listen. thanks- hopefully catch you in ’19 -JB
Christy. i’m bringing dad up to see you next Monday 10th of Dec.a good newbridge man.Liam Casey.he can’t wait.pulled out a great photo of you and him on an under 14 school team a few years back. looking forward to gig.

Hello Christy,
Nice funny chat here about spuds … I must admit we too like the mealy Queens very much and we’re always bringing a bag with us from the Island!
Glad to read you’re preparing some new songs for an EP release next spring!!!
Recently I came across one of your very old songs. Hil had pointed a recording of Cambridge Folk Festival (on YouTube) out to me. I was totally enthralled listening to “The Sun is Burning”!!! It’s such a powerful song and I was wondering if you ever considered to sing it again?
Winter greetings and Best of Luck for Vicar Street!

Played it here in the workroom after reading your post…32 years later and I have to do it in a different key..dropped from G down to D…have not gigged it for 25 years..maybe we’ll get it out next time you visit Ireland…( or the next time we visit Germany !!)
Pat Quinn has a great song about different types of potato..you can catch him on Youtube after Lingo politico and his love song to Angelina Joly..better still you can hear him sing out upon Innis Mór where he is the resident bard
‘Foot turf till teatime’, a poetic sound about it C.

I was sorta thinkin that myself Ed but a fellow has to be careful not to be runnin away with himself..or herself for that matter….we have to chose our words carefully…they’d be down on you like a ton of pricks
I see an awful lot of “sold out” signs on those Vicar Street (great venue) gigs, mind you that in the past hasn’t prevented me turning up & getting in. If I get a ticket I will give you ‘the request’ for that night.
Thanks for reply.

Hi Christy,
How do you fancy playing in Rye at our Arts Festival. It runs for the last two weeks of September each year and we’d be delighted to see you play,
Best wishes – Geoff B.
Christy's reply
Thank You Geoff…I appreciate the invite but it will not be possible..I do very few gigs outside Ireland now…maybe 7 0r 8 a year…the next few years are pencilled in..best wishes
Hi Christy,
I find myself in a wonderful musical groove these recent weeks, with songs and tunes from pecker dunne, john reilly, joe heaney , maggie barry and the clancys rattling around the turntable and my head.
I just wondered if there may be an album of real old and traditional songs from these great teachers in you yet ?
Of course all the recent albums have been fantastic, each different, each a new journey, each a discovery, but it was just a thought whether the fancy would ever take you again right back to the very start of your 50+ years touring and collecting songs ,songs from the very heartland of the soul?
Anyway , enjoy the wee rest before vicar street, we are already looking forward to tullamore and londinium.
Yours aye

preparing 5 or 6 songs for an EP release next Spring
Somebody sent me in the last day or so, a pic of a poster, Planxty, a 1980 concert, the 1979/80 European tour, the quartet + one other wound up playing in the National Stadium early that summer, it was the ‘After the Break’ tour. The poster is up on the wall of Matt Molloys, Westport, Matt was the ‘one other’ back then. It took me off here to find some great live Planxty clips and on to that great Barrowlands video of ‘No Time for Love’.
Have a look on Real Player and look for last night’s (Thurs 28 Nov) Prime Time, RTE One TV. Watch the two sections of the programme; it’s all still going ON, ‘North and South of the Border.’ Corruption; cover up, deceit, lies; you-name-it. Give the Warsaw tune a blast at Vicar St for me. I even went on to find ‘the brother’ singing a powerful version of ‘Perfect Groove’ in Whelans – which put me into a good groove.
Christy's reply
I recall that gig in the The National Stadium in 1980 (but for reasons I’d prefer to forget)…that Planxty line up with Matt Molloy was particularily good..himself and Liam really bounced off each other when we were flaking out the sets of Reels…..there were legendary football matches on that tour, Fumes and Half-Shaft knockin spots off each other…we played 49 gigs in 8 countries…the first night was the Hammersmith Odeon and the last night The Stadium in Dublin… when the books were finally balanced we learned that the band would have earned more had we just played the first and last gig ….but feck it, we had mighty crack…Matt learned how to order “boiled spuds” in 7 different languages…
which night are you going to Vicar St and we’ll give Jack Warshaw’s song an outing….
Seems we’re still getting used to our PO Box here. Many thanks. Cheered me up this morning, Dylan

How y’ Christy!
Before anything – THANKS for the music and all you bring to it! Now I hope I’m not too out of place here but I’m gee’ed on by a strange connection – Rob Corcoran is a friend of mine and I’m blown away by your version of his great song! – so – it’s making me overfamiliar and cheeky and i have a favour to ask you – one of my very best friends mr John Marron turns 40 today – he’s a massive fan of yours and we grew together singing your songs around the pubs and social clubs of Tyneside. I May be biased but his singing of those songs is second only to yourself! Of course he’d never think that but he’s always obliging to sing, infact it’s as if he’s just been asked to pass the salt across the table – easy as that, yet so powerful like he doesn’t know! He works and has a lovely family and he only sings when he’s asked! Today he turns 40 and I’m 300 miles away thinking ‘what could I do that would mean a lot to him?’ – I just wondered if you could drop him a line on here or something and wish him many happy returns or such. It’s just a thought and nee sweat if you can’t! All the best anyway man! Keep on bringing the house down! Xx

Happy Birthday John Marron upon The Mighty Tyne..8 minutes late for your 40th but who cares…9 points from the last 3 games and Sunderland loitering down below…I’m a Blythe Spartan myself……the first 40 are the hardest…

I had the pleasure of seeing and hearing you live in Charleville last Friday. My wife and I had the time of our life. For the last few years I’ve been visiting this website to see if there was a gig planned in Holland or Belgium, so we could see you perform. But no visits over the pond over the years. This year, after visiting the Dranouter folkfestival where we did see you perform 2 times, we decided that it would be great to see you live in Ireland. We planned the trip! BEST thing we did over the years. We had a GREAT time. I think we will do this again in the future. Sitting in with the Irish sing-along audience was a fantastic experience. Your roadmanager overheard us talking at the hotel lobby, that we had quite some trouble getting to Charleville. He decided to give us reserved seats in the middle of the second row.
Met a lot of very nice Irish people and are still telling our fellow Dutchies that if they ever have the chance: “Go see Christy in Ireland”.
Thank you very much for the wonderful experience.
I bought the vinyl and will surely enjoy that for a very long time.
