Comhghairdeas to the Lily Whites and that they ride on through the summer! Sounds like another great night for you and the gang in the Marquee! No surprise. Go well Christy. Mary
Christy's reply
Great to have The Lily Whites back in the news…once again we live in hope…..as a boy I heard them talk of Larry Stanley and Paul Doyle, those heroes of my Father’s childhood…in my own young day we spoke of Larry McCormack,Sheamie Harrison, Paddy Moore who were on that 1956 team that won The Leinster Title.
The new “back-door” system gives all counties an annual Championship run unlike days of yore when some counties got but one game every year…
looking at a recording of the match (after The Marquee) I was surprised to see that St Conleths Park was not “jammed” as predicted…and there was plenty of room on Lunny’s wall
Very emotional gig last night , thank you very much for that , and a massive thanks to Andy for the man he is and the karma he spreads . Rock on !

On The Banks of my own Lovely Lee….where we sported and played
could you pass on many thanks to the sound guy from last night in the tent, i wondered what it would be like, i need not have worried as the sound quality was fantastic.
the gig was great, meeting tony and emma having her baptism before and the marvellous hilary of course was good, and of course the music kept the spirits high. fair play christy,as grand as ever, see you in scotia’s brave land in the late autumn.

David Meade has been mixing my sound for 16 years now…its like he is in the Band, a fifth member…none of us know what way the set is gonna go, whats coming up next but ,whatever happens, he will react accordingly…
we have a great team, Paddy, Michael, David,John, Dickon,Geoff,Miss Daisy,Cian,Juno, Christine all pull together and work tight so as The Band can deliver..having such back-up is a great confidence booster for Declan, Cathal,Jimmy and myself …
Of course I must not forget all those who prepare The Marquee and site for all our advantage…literally hundreds of people work behind the scenes to make Peter Aiken’s Annual Festival come to life on The Banks of The Lee. Great credit for him and his team for having the foresight and courage to undertake such a creative endeavour
Last night I was able to (almost) whisper certain lines in a Tent rammed with 4,000 listeners…David seeks to insure that every note and word is amplified to the furthest corners..
Thanks to you and all our listeners for bringing in the magic ingredient
Hi Christy .. thanks for an unforgettable night here in the tent by the lee.. Emma really enjoyed her first Christy gig .. we were buzzing all the way home to the north side of the city…looking forward to ballybunion on the 14th of July…thanks again to you and all the crew … ps.. well done Kildare tonight…
Christy's reply
Happy to read that Emma had a good gig….that was my 14th year at The Marquee and it went very well for all concerned…I got home here at 1.30 am still buzzing from the audience reaction…after 53 years on the road its such a priviledge to have this ongoing working life…..and now I can wet the tea, sit back and watch the match …great to have The Lily Whites creating a bit of a storm..who knows what way the wind is gonna blow
Oh the Lily’s of the short Grass did the business this evening…… Fair play, stood up to the Rulers and backed it up on the Pitch. Seems some of them were a better shot than a Kildare Man in Tullamore; poor Adam took the hit of the wet Towel meant for me ??. Seriously, hope I didn’t put you out of Kilter with my “Tuam beat” request.
Hope the Marquee was a roaring success.
Best regards
Patsy
Christy's reply
Not a bit of it Patsy…I was only cod-acting….your request was timely and appropriate…I made a balls of it by leaving the starting gates at an almighty lick..
Between news from St Conleth’s (“The Pitch”) and The Marquee (The Big Tint) I had a very good night..
Congratulations to Kildare for winning the match today and for standing up to corporate Croker. Fair play to the boys in white.

Cian O’Neill and his Companeros brought it all back down to basics…..
Traditionally thats what Gaelic Football was all about..Pride of Place…Love of Townland…Reliance upon Neighbour…
I think we saw evidence of those old values in the past week…I believe that is why the story caught the attention of so many people….
Hi Christy,
Flying from London to see you in Cork tonight as a surprise for my boyfriend’s 21st! He has never been able to see you before!! His name is Milo and his favourite song is beeswing!!
Christy's reply
” She was a rare thing fine as a Beeswing
so fine a breath of wind might blow her away
She was a lost child, she was runnin wild
sayin so long as there’s no price on love I’ll stay
you would’nt want me any other way ” ( Richard Thompson)
Hi Christy,
I’m one of eight, an ordinary man, who recently became one of seven.
The one we lost, to cancer, Noel, was the best of us and a great Christy fan, as are all of us. We sang The Voyage, your version, at his funeral Mass and Bright Blue Rose in the graveyard after the coffin was lowered into the ground. Your voice has travelled far and brought comfort and inspiration in equal measure wherever it went, even when you were not physically present.
Anyway, Noel’s wife and son saw you in Hawkswell a few weeks ago and you were brilliant; my wife, son and I saw you in the Concert Hall and you were amazing; my sister and her daughter saw you in Tullamore on Wed and you were superb. My brother and sister Liam & Nuala and their spouses will see you tomorrow in the Marquis and it would be fab if you gave Noel Brennan a mention – you would have liked him.
Thanks from the Brennan clan – proud to be Chrisy fans!
Christy's reply
Hi Hugh, Sorry to read about your Noel….it had been my intent to dedicate a song to his memory last night but once I hit the stage all plans and intentions were blown to shreds…the audience just took the night away and we flew alongside them…..four thousand listeners in a tent in a heatwave beside a River created updraft and currents that carried us up and away……I thought of your good brother Noel during both “Ordinary Man” and “Bright Blue Rose”……..Thank You for sharing..greetings to all The Brennan clan
Hi christy ,
Myself and my family from ovens in co cork are so excited to be going to see you on the marque tomorrow night.
My 5 year old son Matthew is the most excited .
He is a big fan of yours and we would love a shout out for him if you could .
His favorite song is city of Chicago
Freda (Matthews mum )
Christy's reply
Hi Freda….greetings to you and Matthew…hope the lad had a good night…..
Thanks for the shout out to Mick Kelly he will be buzzing all the way back to Van Diemans land so thanks for that. Really liked your new song about the Irish Wake…..we had one in our village a few months back and it was a Carbon copy……without the arse grabbing?. Fair play u sang like a Linnet and great to see Decie back by your side?
Thank you Christy and your fantastic accompanying musicians for another magical performance in the Riverside Hotel in Enniscorthy last night. The energy, passion and emotion in your performance is so powerful and it’s a privilege to be a part of your audience. A special thanks to you for singing my long-time favourite “Bright Blue Rose” which made my night! Until the next time we catch you in concert, take care.

it changed my life
How’s things, we have our great friend Mick Kelly (Or Mikey as we refer to him in Ireland) home from Van Diemans land so we are heading to hear your finest this evening on Tullamore?. Hoping you can play a few songs in his honor before he heads back on the ship to Oz in the morning…..Missing You & Metropolitan Avenue being our favourites when we have a sing song ourselves……Looking forward to the night…..Up the Lilywhites?

Hi christy. There a melody that goes with this if you want to give to someone. …enjoy.
He was the keeper of his garden,
The love he showed helped the roses grow,
He was the keeper of his garden.
A dear auld friend
I still miss him so.
I can still see him spade in hand
As he waltzed along the drills he had,
Nare a weed would ever live,
In John bowens land.
He was the keeper of his garden
The love he showed helped the roses grow,
He was the keeper of his garden,
A dear auld friend I sure miss him so.
You know every now and then
When I’m driving down a country lane
My mind goes back and I think of him
So long ago.
He was the keeper of his garden
The love he showed helped the roses grow,
He was the keeper of his garden
A dear auld friend .I do miss him so..
Thanks for sharing….
