Thank you Peter & Sonia ….I once played a Folk Club in Wigan
Another amazing concert, Christy, and so evocative. You don’t seem to age, your voice is always in fine form. I usually see you with my parents but they weren’t able to travel so brought my other half with me and made him a fan! I sang along to so much and missed them when you sang Voyage & Beeswing. Thank you so much. Great night

We’ll head “over the top” between Birmingham and York but I still remember the old route before the Pennine Motorway openend…..I lived nearby in Halifax towards the end of construction…an amazing feat of road building with many of our own doing the hard shovelling….my own dear Uncle, the late Jimmy Power, drove heavy plant up there as the mighty Pennines were traversed….
Tá tú ceart a Colm, Seachtú trí anniu, Buíochais le Día, gan cáca milis ach le mo croí lán de grá agus gratitude….

Happy Birthday Christy! I’ve mentioned before we share one, us and the sinking of the Lusitania. Surely song worthy. So Here it is
Happy Birthday Christy Moore, Milo Carr and many more
Happy birthday to all those born on the seventh of May
But remembrance should be paid to those who lost their lives that day
The day the Lusitania sank below the waves
Four black stack stabbed the sky, sister ships of the Cunard line
Coming home to Liverpool from America
From with her cargo hold, lay the guns and bullet load
Torpedo blast that sank so fast the Lusitania
The stars align tonight, the sea awash with moonlight
I’ll put a candle on the window sill
The memories still strong of a day that’s come and gone
The day she sank below the waters still
I can still see the smoke, in the sky of Old Head coast
Hear the cries above the crashing waves
Torn bodies charred black, oily seas with white foam cap
The day she found her watery grave
Was it one torpedo or two, makes no difference to the crew
Just politics from the British admiralty
The captain says he’s not to blame for the hit on the Lusitaine’
He stayed the course and all ahead full speed
But he’ll never forget the dead, off the coast of the Kinsale head
And wonder if he chose the proper course
But Churchill had a plan to force the hand of the Americans
And sacrificed the lives of twelve hundred men
I’ll raise a frosted glass and tell England to kiss my ass
and never forgive their treachery
I still see the ghosts of the brave men off Kinsale coast
Who perished aboard the Lusitania
Great night in the Pool last night Christy, so much so that I came straight home and booked a couple of tickets for Barrowlands in November, Either your very good or I’m a gluten for punishment. All the best for the rest of the tour, make sure you pace yourself.
Christy's reply
Morra John…go easy on the gluten….from Liverpool to Glasgow..The Mersey to The Clyde….twin Cities in my mind….enthusiastic and vocal listeners….no reticence when displaying approval……one moment lusty loud singing, the next you can hear the price of a pin dropping…..
I’m pacing myself something fierce here today, lying low and resting the vocals, working quietly on a few songs, re-visiting a few old ones, enjoying this trip but already looking forward to getting home to my family……
probably have a Rogan later….
Hi Christy
I’m a day behind as just home from work but just wanted to say how my uncle and I were absolutely bowled over last night in Liverpool!
Ive seen you several times and I always come away buzzing but last night was just something else! (Love the touch of the fiddle)
How do you come down from that?!
I’m not even going to try.
Thank you and hope the rest of your tour is equally as amazing x
Christy's reply
The “come down” varies from night to night…. after The Phil last Saturday the four of us drank strong tea and devoured sandwiches….then we packed our bags and met some audients at the stage door..into the van and onto Manchester…checked into our lodgings, unpacked the guitar and strummed for a while watching the tail end of snooker from The Crucible….that finalized the comedown as I fell into the scratcher ……….
The Fiddle player is Cathal Hayden from Pomeroy in the County of Tyrone….I met him in Finland in 1987……
Wow that Liverpool gig is a keeper ! Got me through my accounting day like a charm !
What’s the story of Planxty and Inti Illimani sharing bill ? Our beloved Max Berrú, founder of Inti, passed away this week RIP. You may still have the reunion DVD of them that i gave you in Liverpool 10 years ago !!! Can you believe 10 years ?
Love from Santiago Bay,
Maryline

thank you Maryline for your feedback from Santiago..
to tell the truth,I dont recall the gig that Phil mentioned from Liverpool early 70s
I’m fairly sure that I would remember such a concert
but, who knows….there are blank pages in the old memory
Dear Christy.
I am cycling around Ireland, just as many years already. I have seen you in Westport 2years ago and asked if you are having a gig in Ireland in this month. I am.here now with my twinsister and her husband. So do you think there is a possibility to see you perform during this month? We would be very happy. Love Nora, Leida and Peter
Christy's reply
just one gig …Athlone May 31st…..happy and safe travels to you and your comrades
What a brilliant night in Liverpool … in as fine voice as ever, Christy. Declan and the boys were excellent. I remember my first ‘memorable gig’ … Inti-Illimani on their tour that led to their ostracism in 1973, St George’s Hall Liverpool, alongside Planxty. I was a student and involved in the anti-Pinochet protests. I guess that was the first time I saw you, Dónal, Andy and Liam. At least that’s my memory (!!!) Since that moment you have been a central element in the soundtrack to our lives. In the final chapter of one of my books I open with an italicised verse from ‘On the Bridge’; as pertinent today as it was at the time given the persistent brutality of strip-searching. Our Paul’s partner, Katrin from former East Berlin where they now live (as does our Sean and his partner Ailis), loves your music, identifying closely with the politics of many fine lyrics. And so to their children – some legacy, repeated no doubt in many thousands of families. Cannot thank you enough for light in the dark, optimism of the spirit – and optimism the will (to misquote Antonio Gramsci!) Phil, Deena and co xxx
Christy's reply
Ye bring out the best in us….Ye made it easy for us last night….that welcome on stage was like a goal in the first minute with home advantage and the wind on our backs…..
when I first landed here in 1966 my repertoire was based on The Clancy Brothers and songs from my Mother…over here I got to hear so many who influenced me, helped me broaden my repertoire and perspective…singers like MacColl, Bob Cooney, Peggy Seeger, Leon Rosselson,Harry Boardman,Mike Waterson, Ian manuel, Dick Gaughan, Tommy Dempsey, Matt McGinn,Ian and Lorna Cambell had me delving deeper into the archive, got me thinking, changed my approach to singing…..hearing “The Old Man’s Song” “The Good Ship Granma” along with songs from Woody…obsession soon kicked in…50 years on I’m still looking and, thankfully, there are numerous writers willing to share their songs with me…
hearing MacColl gave me the notion to try writing a song or two…I’m still doodling but not much has emerged of late….
Here I am back in Manchester today playing a beautiful venue….never dreamt of this ..52 years ago I was trasipsing around the City trying to get Floor spots at the myriad Folk Clubs that abounded back then….Guitar, Parka jacket, Sleeping Bag and very little else apart from a desire to sing….Frank Duffy let me sing at his club, used to turn up at the MSG open mike every monday, the wheel began to turn…Mike Harding gave me my first “proper ” gig and slowly the gigs began to trickle in…Congleton, Bury, Bolton, Leigh…..got my first vehicle, a clapped out mini Van that to me was like a mobile home….this was my University..
Like your good self, I’m still learning…thanks for your feedback and all you do….Sail On….
Hi All… the Heatwave Tour is on what a scorcher of a gig last night,,, ? a great set list, including Burning Times !! and great Love in the room in the Phil,,, and to finish off with The Leaving of Liverpool… magic… Shine On… H
Christy, looking forward to seeing you tonight. My parents, Thomas and Bernadette Kelly are lifelong fans. They see you every time you are in Manchester. This is the last time they’ll see you perform here, as they are heading back to Donegal to retire. Please could you make their year by giving them a shout out. Thank you very much. Madeline Kelly x

wishing Thomas and Bernadette a safe journey home to “The Hills”…we’ll catch up with them there
It’s not the leaving of Liverpool that grieves me…… but the knowledge that another great gig will happen in Manchester tonight , and us on our way back to the Hills. The Philharmonic was a mighty start to the tour , what a beautiful theatre. Thanks for The City of Chicago, it felt very special last night. We’ve had a few smashing days here in this town full of music and Craic and some of the friendliest folks you could hope to meet.
Enjoy the rest of the gigs and thanks to all who make it happen.

Hope you get back in time for the milking….we ‘re getting ready here..changing strings, setting up PA and Lights…assembling the catering…I’m hoping to have my outfit washed, dried and pressed by showtime…Mr Devine is a stickler for presentation, we gotta trousars pressed, boots polished, be clean shaven and well presented by 8 bells or we wont be allowed on stage….
Yesterday, Liverpool reminded me of a Fleadh Ceoil in Buncrana
