Hi All. On Nollaig na mBan here is a song to celebrate the power of women. For all the women who went before us, for women everywhere,,, but especially for our Mothers Beir bua agus Beannacht, H https://youtu.be/m9UUjbZnZHE
One thing about the latest “controversy” isn’t great that people make a song their own, and feel either love, angry, happiness, joy, upset or what ever motion they get out of the song and the story.. isn’t that why songs are wrote and sung??? Its what each of us take from a song is what makes it’s personal…
I was at the gig on Wednesday night too and was fierce excited throughout the gig (ya probably heard me) but the energy was perfect.
I met a couple from skerries at their first Christy gig and after the show asked did they enjoy that? and himself said he can’t believe he’s after going 63 years without seeing you!! As they said themselves thank God the kids were good to them at Christmas for the tickets…..
Another thing about the night I was sitting up in the crows nest on the balcony looking down below the crowd ( which I love)and there was a standing ovation by 5 people in different parts of the hall after oblivious, from the ages of early 60s to early 20s, which made me feel so proud to see others just connected with the song. I personally have to say it was my song of the night..
Loved the new mic, and fair play to the sound man he got it right with the fading out and volume levels, it looked like you were in your back bedroom just jamming with the lads!!
Garth Brooks be proud of that technic!!!(if only he could get a gig)
On a different note, wasn’t moorefield just brilliant how they won the Leinster final for the second time in 10/12 years! Hats off too them all, roli sweeney is the best club footballer this county has ever produced.
I celebrated with them on the Sunday in “flanagans”. We had a great night, we sang songs from the fairy tale of new york to rag n bone man, and maybe the Celtic symphony got rewrote that night to accommodate the victorious moors!!!!
Happy New year Christy to you, all of your family and the crew to make this all happen.
P.S have to say Anne rynnes song “mammy when are we going home” is the best most powerful song i heard for the times in 2017. I’ve learnt it my self and I hope to give it a spin some night..
Christy,
Thank you very much for the Lisdoonvarna dedication to my Wife at Vicar St on Wednesday. You are a true Gentleman and made the night very special for us both, and especially for my Wife.
I bought 7 of your albums on our visit and have some fun nights of listening ahead of me.
Health, Wealth & Happiness to you.

After 2 brilliant shows I’m happy like a kid at Christmas. Thank you Christy for considering my out of the hat request. Such a treat. I dont have a car. My wheels when ever the season here allows is actually a 50´. Not a Honda but the famous Italian brand. The front rack can carry a tiny amp and guitar on my back we make splendid speed of 40km/h. Spot on choice for a song!
Special thanks to Hilary for taking care of the wondering foreigner in panic with disappearing tickets crises and keeping us connected and in good company. Wednesdays show was particularly interesting to experience all the lively and changing energies in the room, the reactions and emotions back and forth and to see how it changed some of the structure and songs. On the instrumental parts on both gigs I was graving for more. Declan let out some ghostly out of this world fillings with volume pedal and when ever Cathal takes a solo it is like wee fragile leaf breathing in the air or long sweet honey drops bending away. Keep it going. I would not have minded listening more sweet solos and instrumental parts even at the expense of loosing a song or two in the end. I´m sure I must be in the tiniest minority with this opinion. So many favourites songs to fit in limited time. With me were sitting some nice people from Australia. They had flown in from Finnish Lapland for the gig. It all comes together. Again I’m taking little gems of joy home with me to the cold north. Many more songs to learn and even couple of people waiting to hear them. Good spirits. All the best to everyone.

Dearest Christy, I can’t thank you enough for the wonderful, amazing FANTABULOUS gig, that you & your gang of incredible musicians gave us, on Tues night in Vicar St….what a start to 2018!! I’m sure I drove the people beside me mad with my singing, Whooping & hollering…I apolgised profusely afterwards but they were beautiful people from Derry! Met a lovely lassie from Glasgow, Agnes, who has been a fan of yours, since she was 14 & she’s almost as auld as myself too!!! My son Daniel & his pals are avid fans of yours, for life, after that gig! Your CD kept us company the whole way home to Clare the next day!! Míle míle buíochas for the shout out to us & playing one of my favourite songs of yours for many many years..Ordinary Man! Daniel says he’ll live off that for quite a while! He has me already trying to get tkts for another of your gigs!! To say that I was ecstatic when I saw Cathal Hayden walk on stage with you, would be an understatement!! I practically swooned!!!I’m a huge fan of Cathal’s & 4 Men & a Dog…I made a show of Gino one night on stage, in Armada, Sp Point, many years ago!! We’ve become good friends since!! I’ve a great memory of you one night in The Grand, Malahide, many moons ago…I’ll share it with you sometime…it was another incredible gig…& I knew after that night that you were going to be a big hit with many people for many years!! Jimmy McCarthy was your support!!!

The lyric, on its own. characterises and reduces the complex trans issue to the issue of genitals, (Christy’s own comments re trousers & knickers reflect that narrow one dimensional view again). Many transgender people ended up years ago working in the sex industry having been shunned and ostracised from their own blinkered families & hateful communities. The lyric paints the scene of horror (which we are supposed to share) on Dinny because he only understands one form of gender male/female and two sexes man/woman. That’s actually the real joke here, how an adult male can grow up in modern Ireland, and know so little about the spectrum of gender including transgenderism. Struggle (like that of the Ordinary Man) is often at the centre of their lives and many in the non trans community are only ever curious about the surgical or biological issue. The lyric I believe perpetuates the outdated “They are weird Freaks” characterisation of trans people, and should be rewitten to be more ridiculing of Dinny and his views, and much more inclusive and understanding of Trans people.
Hi All. two great gigs to kick off 2018 and year 52 of the never ending tour,,, some great songs , mighty orchestra and singing, engaged audiences,,,,,thanks for sharing your gifts so generously,,, and with such passion,,, I read Christy33s post earlier today and was a bit taken aback,,,, I m know that Christy is well able to defend his choice of songs and lyrics however I feel an important topic has been raised,,, Im my own life I have often been asked would I not lighten off on the gender stuff, that I’m too sensitive to the way women are treated and portrayed and that I should build a bridge and get over it,,,, Paradoxically in this instance it was and is my firm belief that Christy Moore is a staunch defender of gender rights. So I reflected on Christy33s post before posting this comment,,, I would not dream of speaking on behalf of the trans community and its not clear if Christy33 is identifying as part of the trans community or if s/he is posting to defend their rights, which is laudable. However I have to say that in my humble opionion the song Amsterdam is a such a light hearted, raucous, riotious, risible ramble around that infamous city that I genuinely believe it is hard to see how it could be construed to cause offence on the basis of gender. It would be intersting to hear other comments on this very important topic. Beir bua agus beannacht. Hilary

Hi Christy, back in my workshop this morning and a little Dreoilín was flittering in the woody stems of clematis by my window. They nest in precarious places. Howya, I enjoyed most of the gig last night, but felt a little uneasy at your inclusion of a transphobic lyric in ‘Amsterdam’. The trans community here and elsewhere would, I’m sure, be greatly offended with your reference to ‘dropping the hand’. This cheap reductionist stereotypical comment, uttered to get a laugh, perpetuates misunderstanding of the trans issue, and flies in the face of recent efforts to establish and vindicate equal rights in law and employment for transgender people. In the past, many transgender people have struggled to win acceptance, and understanding. Incidents of self harm and suicide are disproportionately high among the trans community. We all have a responsibility to be more careful about slighting minorities at the expense of a laugh. Good progressive voices such as yours, probably should avoid lyrics and sentiments which offend on the basis of gender.

The truth of the matter Christy33, I was there..I witnessed the event described… poor Dinny did get an awful shock when he dropped the hand…are you suggesting that I should rewrite the verse lest the truth offend….
I would rather dwell upon how far we have come… that those who so wish can waltz with transgenders and, occasionally, might even take a chance and drop the hand…
I can assure you that I dont have a transphobic bone in my body (or my trousars for that matter)
I’m glad to read that you enjoyed most of the gig….we certainly enjoyed playing last night, the audience were uplifting and superb…its great to get out and have some fun…but its important too to put down the microscope and pick up the mirror….
Anyway Christy33, thanks for taking the trouble… I sincerely hope that your knickers are not in a twist
Christy,
just checked the ‘Gigs’ page and your selling out like hot cakes all over the country, must be that new aftershave you got for Christmas. All the best for 2018 (and beyond).
Christy, I’m late getting to you but i just wanted to say thanks for the absolute cracker on Tuesday night. Nothing like it to lift the January blues and the fear of going back to work yesterday.
I think the rest done ye well, first out of the traps, mind you at one stage during Lisdoonvarna I thought the wheels could have came of the wagon, the speed you were operating that guitar at was something else!
See you next month on the home turf, keep her between the hedges.
Dear Christy,
just dropping in and before going to sleep, I need to say hello. You and your three collegues did an amazing show tonight. Thank you for so many good songs with eyeopening facts. I myself got caught by the one “who stayed silent”. Facts of our own family past and reason enough to stay aware.
Uwe and I had the best time, this evening being the high point of the day. He did not expect such an event, not talking of the words you addressed to him. Thank you so much… We will take greetings to Germany from the Paddys. Would have loved to Shake your hand personally.
May God bless you.

Great gig in Vicar Street last night a Chriostóir!
I was in the esteemed company of the bould Lar Flynn, (for the first time in a long while) last night. I must say that, like the Marquee during the summer, there’s an extra pep in your step these days young Sir, and as a wise man once said, “you were on fire boy!”
Thanks as always for great songs sung and played extremely well….

Safe journey back to Bavaria…….
Hup de Rebels!

Hi Christy, just back in the Middle of the Island after another wonderful night in HQ. Thanks to you and the “Orchestra “ for a great selection of Songs…… and well done on getting the “BOYS “ in the audience under control, as we say down here “you can’t beat experience “. …… ….. You look very comfortable with the new Microphone; however there was one or Two occasions that I thought you were going to join us in the Front row ??.
Best Regards
Patsy
Hope the lad lookin for the Q&A got home safe and sound……
the different mike is working very well for me..I was quite paro about it at first but soon forgot about it….it feels as if a screen has been removed from between singer and listener…gives me freedom to sing in different directions..I’m enjoying it
