surprising my Ireland-fan-husband for his 50th birthday we will be flying from Germany to Dublin on January 03, 2018 for some days.. Checking the Dublin events during this period I saw that you will have a gig this first evening we arrive. “This is it” was my first thought as he follows your concerts since teenager years.. An even bigger surprise as the fact of being in Dublin would be your concert. But, oh no … I was too late. Is there any chance to get two or at least ONE single ticket for this wednesday-concert????? Than please let me know.

Seems like ye got off to a flyer last night Christy! There’s a small gathering of eight Cavan men looking forward to hearing the songs and the stories again this evening. It has become an annual visit for us. I estimate the gig-going number to be somewhere in the twenties now. From The Hillgrove in Monaghan in 06/07 via The Barras,The Park Hotel in Sligo, The Slieve Russell and The Errigal in Cavan, from Vicar Street to The Button Factory…with various musicians all playing their part! The songs never go out of date and long may you share the gift with us.. There’s a comrade among us tonight (Eamonn) who’s had “If I get an Encore” on repeat since On The Road’s release. If the air blows that way I’d love if ye could give it a blast..no problem if not.. Thanks Christy! Kev

I was reading your post here this morning when I read “the Real Capitol”..that got me thinking about your neighbours who reside in “The Kingdom”….there is no doubt about it,when it comes to humility you’ll find none as humble as the good people of those too-great counties..even in humility itself ye excel as the humblest in the land..mind you tis a toss-up between ye as to which of ye is the All-Ireland champions of humility…
In Kildare we had the humility gene bet into us…in far off days High Kings did dwell upon The Hill Of Allen, great armies of conquering warriors trained and manouvered upon the Plains of Kildare..back them the Liffey used to turn left and join The Barrow before the Ice-Age re-aligned Liffey waters to flow eastward where they carved out The Black Lagoon(itself a great centre of self congratulations and hot air)….then when Brigid came, to save us from ourselves, we lived in Peace until Vikings, Normans, Black and Tans, Auxies and, finally, Hedge Cund Vultures turned us away from peaceful ways where we now return gradually to war footing (T.B.C.P94)

back to the box set to listen to today,red was mesmeric, uplifting and inspiring as always.
however the green is less often played and so i was enraptured by both the spoken start of the cd intro (roots) and very last outro. it resonated with me as i sit looking out at nature’s beauty in my town of birth,life and one day death ,where i see the people i have grown up with, outwith and old with, whilst treasuring the nature around me ,like for you in barronstown as you said, whilst trusting and hoping that our fellow man looks after the natural ,unsullied sights and sounds that we too often take for granted. it’s where i come from.
sorry it seems a bit deep , the music was grand too mind you. all the best for your forthcoming dublin weeks of residence.

Rory, you have me thinking that I must have a listen to The Box Set again…I’ve not heard it since I mixed the Tracks with Robyn Robbins in Mid Atlantic Studios in Enniskillen back in 2003…getting that box together required a lot of focus from those few people who stuck with me for the duration..none more so then Michael Traynor who distilled 105 CDs of material down to about 20 cds from which the final tracks were chosen…Then I spent a lot of time with Robyn trying to extract sound from some very dodgy Cassette recordings, some damaged reel to reel tapes that had appeared miraculously from New York..most of the tracks were previously unreleased outtakes from decades of recording sessions,others from long forgotten gigs across the decades, old cassettes lying in drawers, boxes and suitcases waiting for their chance to resound again…
I always get a buzz when old recordings are referenced..to know that they are still out there getting a spin….I had thought to release a second box set in 2016 but got sidetracked by last years album “Lily”.
I also love how the colour coding of the 6 CDS worked out….to read your comments 12 years on about the “Red” one and the”Green” one really tickles my fancy
