Hey H….just loved that Venue in Worthing….salt sea air, ace acoustics, happy welcoming staff, and then lots of friends and long haul listeners there to welcome us on stage…I’m very happy to have Adams picture on the next album sleeve…and its there for one reason only..its a great picture..captures a moment in Barrowland last gig.. a time that I always cherish as the listeners gather and we hear their cacophony as we tune up just the other side of a VERY thin wall…I have 24 tracks gleaned from 17 venues and you were probably at most of the gigs (if not all !) you are without doubt our Number One listener..your energy and commitment to our gig is astounding, encouraging and greatly appreciated….especially how you watch out for others and notice those who might need help or direction….

Hey Helen, I saw nothing last night until the lights came up at the end, then I saw a sea of faces, smiling appreciative faces, it was a lovely moment before heading off into the night..sorry I did not see Tallulah..its quite a few years now since we met in Brighton..great to hear that she plays in a Band now…tell her to post some sounds here sometime, I’d love to hear what she’s cookin…I think Flickering was a song she liked back then..
Thanks Christie, Declan and band for the wonderful performance at the Watford Colloseum last night. We also saw you at a brilliant night at Vicar Street in April 2016. Last night I attended with my sons (both born in Watford) who also were celebrating Watford’s win against Southampton. I was one of those who cheered when you mentioned Tipperary (as I am from Tipp) and also cheered (a bit too loudly) with Inchicore’s mention in Joxer…thanks again!

It’s hardly surprising that you cannot recall Bochum, we only visited this town once – that was for your gig! You played there on 2nd Oct 2011, the day after your Hamburg gig and afterwards you went to Holland and Belgium. The venue was as ugly as sin but when you and Declan entered stage the whole atmosphere changed and we were in Dreamland – I remember a most beautiful concert!
Still have the poster (which we bought in Bochum) of your last German tour on the wall, a lovely keepsake of the three fantastic gigs in early October 2011 we enjoyed so much!
Soon it will be October again and we are already looking forward to seeing you in the near future.

Hey Traudel, We played in an English Seaside Town called Worthing last night. Lovely old style venue. The moment I entered the room in the afternoon I could feel the acoustics…the sea roared in the background as the staff welcomed us to their precious venue…its always a good start to a gig when the local production crew are proud of their venue…..the ocean felt like it was lapping below our dressing room as we began to warm up for the nights fun…Michael Devine was priming us with strong tea as we tuned and delved into old repertoire…the sound check was long as some old favourites appeared…Liverpool Lou, Bogies Bonnie Belle,Raggle Taggle all appeared from nowhere until it was time for “Doors Open”and we had to vacate the stage…..then we had a visit from Adam Sherwood who is following this wee tour on holiday from his native County Wicklow. I want to use a picture of his for the cover of the next album. He was happy with the idea and gave his blessing to the project…
At 7PM we began our countdown. Some of us began to change into our gig clobber, I prepared a list of songs that we might play, Dickon, John, David, Michael and Geoff were making final preparations , the listeners were forming an audience in the room as that precious anticipation began to seep throughout the bullding…..we were playing a Django version of “Weekend Amsterdam” when we got the showtime call and out we went to face the music…we played

Was at the gig in Watford last night. You and the lads were absolutely brilliant. Crackin’ room for it too. Was there with my dad, a Dub (and diehard Dubs GAA fan) who had the decency to move west and bestow a Kildare birth and upbringing on my sister and me (notwithstanding the post 1928 drought you mentioned last night). We moved to London in recent years so meant a lot to see ye perform over here. We lost my mother a few years ago, a Clarewoman who was also a fan of yours. We felt the emotion during Nancy Spain and Spancil Hill due to evocative associations of her with those songs, but were glad to have the reminders. I’m a massive U2 fan so North and South of the River was a thrill, as ever. The first gig my English girlfriend and I went to together was yourself at the Royal Festival Hall in 2012. She absolutely loved it and remains a fan – at that time, your gig was the most Irish people she had ever seen in one room! Keep it up, Christy – thanks for all the tunes and laughs.

yes, last nights venue has brilliant acoustics….its always a great start to a gig when the room has good vibrations and that Watford room is exceptional…I much prefer the older rooms..they have character and history behind them….some of the modern rooms have all the tech, bells and whistles but often lack the good vibrations….
There was GAA on the air last night..not GA(NJ)A, just pure top grade GAA…..it will probably be around all week which is understandable….one Red &Green man in the audience last night sounded like he’d been drinking from the Sam Maguire all weekend.
I know your Da is a Dub, my own Wife is a proud Dublin Woman and I’ve lived there for four sevenths of my life but, that said, I gotta root for Mayo…Dublin may be the best team that ever played but over 70 mins anything can happen…if they dont click and Mayo do…we just might have a great clash…Mayo might yet have their year in the Sun….

PS lest we forget, Kildare Women won the Intermediate All-Ireland Title in 2016, I had the pleasure of singing for them 5 days before they gained their laurels

Michael always packs winter gear for all occasions…….we have previously traversed the breezy Townlands of Brighton,Hove and Southend…even played Margate once but never found Tracy’s tent…..I may have played a Folk Club in Worthing 50 years ago or was that just a dream..
could not see the audience last night but could hear ye..what sweet sounds….
we practice, we learn,we write, we arrange, we work, we travel, we tune, we wonder….

Last night was our first gig in 3 weeks, a lot happened in the interim,we needed some healing tunes.
Cathal’s instruments went missing en route from Amsterdam on Saturday arriving in Watford just before soundcheck (Thank you KLM)
Jimmy spent the week exhilarated by Galway’s Hurling victory.
We live far apart in Ireland ( each in a different Province) and only meet when the music calls.So last night the Audience, Band and Crew all gathered in anticipation.
We no longer do long haul gigs . For me, four gigs in the UK now constitutes a Foreign Tour. My passport seldom sees the light of day and then only in the shed at Holyhead.

you remember the E-Werk very well. The difference between Bochum and Beckum are a few hundred thousand people ;). But the Ruhr-Congress is not a good venue for music. Its cold and aseptic and nobody in the crowd dares to sing there. But nice to hear that you are considering to come back to germany. hope this question finds you in good health. After weeks of listening to lots of your cds and videos on youtube, I just wonder if there is any chance for a concert in germany again. Saw you in the beginning of the nineties alone in cologne in the E-Werk, i guess and a few years ago in Bochum in the Ruhr-Congress.

we have been considering the possibility of returning…. I remember E-Werk as a large stand up venue with a big Disco club..I recall visiting the Cathedral in Cologne after the soundcheck…dont have a clear picture of Bochum gig , always get it confused with Beckum.. Kaiserslautern with Munchengladbach….Toten Hosen and Kraftwerk ( not really)
One of the my mate’s took me along to see this Irish singer called Christy Moore in the 80’s (concert advertised in The Irish Post). He was brilliant and I came home more tham impressed with this pure energy. ‘Before the Deluge’ and ‘Hiroshima Nagasaki Russian Roulette’ stick to mind to this day. I was converted and went out and bought the back catalogue, although never could get the above songs until I sussed out the Moving Hearts connection. Over the years been lucky to see you play live at many London venues such as The Dominion, The National, The Albert Hall and the Fleadh to name a few. Always a treat. Anyway, welcome to Watford and delighted to see you play in my back yard. Will be there with my father (native of Wicklow) and Brother. I have lots of Christy favorites and always delighted that no setlist is the same, so always expect the unexpected.

I can still recall the first time I heard Only our Rivers….1971 in a club on York Road in Leeds…Cathal McConnell sang it that night at a Concert that also featured Liam O’Flynn…..the song was written by Cathal’s brother Mickey McConnell and they hail from Florencecourt in County Tyrone. Mickey has given us some great songs over the years while Cathal has been a great purveyor of Music and Song

Michael always packs winter gear for all occasions…….we have previously traversed the breezy Townlands of Brighton,Hove and Southend…even played Margate once but never found Tracy’s tent…..I may have played a Folk Club in Worthing 50 years ago or was that just a dream..
could not see the audience last night but could hear ye..what sweet sounds….
we practice, we learn,we write, we arrange, we work, we travel, we tune, we wonder….
then when we hear that silence
followed by the listeners roar……. it all makes sense

Loved the room, the audience,the banter.
Last night was our first gig in 3 weeks, a lot happened in the interim,we needed some healing tunes.
Cathal’s instruments went missing en route from Amsterdam on Saturday arriving in Watford just before soundcheck (Thank you KLM)
Jimmy spent the week exhilarated by Galway’s Hurling victory.
We live far apart in Ireland ( each in a different Province) and only meet when the music calls.So last night the Audience, Band and Crew all gathered in anticipation.
We no longer do long haul gigs . For me, four gigs in the UK now constitutes a Foreign Tour. My passport seldom sees the light of day and then only in the shed at Holyhead.

you remember the E-Werk very well. The difference between Bochum and Beckum are a few hundred thousand people ;). But the Ruhr-Congress is not a good venue for music. Its cold and aseptic and nobody in the crowd dares to sing there. But nice to hear that you are considering to come back to germany. hope this question finds you in good health. After weeks of listening to lots of your cds and videos on youtube, I just wonder if there is any chance for a concert in germany again. Saw you in the beginning of the nineties alone in cologne in the E-Werk, i guess and a few years ago in Bochum in the Ruhr-Congress.

we have been considering the possibility of returning…. I remember E-Werk as a large stand up venue with a big Disco club..I recall visiting the Cathedral in Cologne after the soundcheck…dont have a clear picture of Bochum gig , always get it confused with Beckum.. Kaiserslautern with Munchengladbach….Toten Hosen and Kraftwerk ( not really)
One of the my mate’s took me along to see this Irish singer called Christy Moore in the 80’s (concert advertised in The Irish Post). He was brilliant and I came home more tham impressed with this pure energy. ‘Before the Deluge’ and ‘Hiroshima Nagasaki Russian Roulette’ stick to mind to this day. I was converted and went out and bought the back catalogue, although never could get the above songs until I sussed out the Moving Hearts connection. Over the years been lucky to see you play live at many London venues such as The Dominion, The National, The Albert Hall and the Fleadh to name a few. Always a treat. Anyway, welcome to Watford and delighted to see you play in my back yard. Will be there with my father (native of Wicklow) and Brother. I have lots of Christy favorites and always delighted that no setlist is the same, so always expect the unexpected.
My old Gran used to say “sure, he’s a quare hawk but he don’t steal no birds eggs”…she was partial to her double negatives….so, we got The Wicklow Boys comin to Town tonight…hope it all goes well…thanks for all your support over many years……

Hi Christy. First tour Ive missed in years. Gutted. My brother is seeing you in the Royal festival Hall. Ive no doubt it will be as good as ever. I hope you dont mind I posted a song on the 4711 forum. If you get chance I wouldnt mind your thoughts? Not quite at your standard mind! By the way, beautiful and moving moment at Martin McGuinnesses funeral earlier this year. How you were able to hold it together. And Mary Black too. Incredible.

The old River ran dry Steve…..I’ve sung it but once in the past 20 years…hopefully you might settle for North & South of the River….
I can still recall the first time I heard Only our Rivers….1971 in a club on York Road in Leeds…Cathal McConnell sang it that night at a Concert that also featured Liam O’Flynn…..the song was written by Cathal’s brother Mickey McConnell and they hail from Florencecourt in County Tyrone. Mickey has given us some great songs over the years while Cathal has been a great purveyor of Music and Song
