Hello Christy,
Back home after 10 very sunny days in a most wonderful Ireland.
We started in New Ross with your lovely gig and one way or the other you stayed with us for the rest of our holiday.
It’s incredible how you connect people.
Anyway our last night was in Castledermot in a very special B&B and the owner was an old school-and rugby mate of yours named John Doyle! Ring any bells?
Special man, runs the B&B in an old schoolhouse in a quirky way. He collected hundreds of things during the years, it was like staying the night in a museum.
He sends you many greetings.
Then there was a man and he referred to a song of you about Switzerland??
It was a lovely visit to my favorite country with lots of stories and lots of humor.
Only disappointment was that Paddy could not arrange a ticket for U2 for me. I had put all my hopes on him!
I read that you saw Brian Wilson 8 years ago. We will see him next week, he is only playing Pet Sounds now.
Hope you’re having a great summer and see you…..?
Greetings from a very dry Belgium
Chris
Christy's reply
I remember John Doyle very well..have not seen him for over 54 years..I rem him as a blond gangly athletic rugby player who always had a smile on his face..must call in there and say hello
the only song I can think of is “In Zurich” written by my old friend Jim Page ( he also wrote “Hiroshima,Nagasaki” and “Landlord” on the first Moving Hearts album)
I may have recorded “In Zurich” at some stage..not sure….
Its hot here..we are painting the outside walls of the house and replacing slates on the roof..its like Circque De Soleil here today
All that and your dinner on your knee! I was listening to you performing at Glastonbury CND Festival 1984…you were talking about performing on the same stage as Rory Gallagher…Lisdoonvarna. I then came across Rory, Phil Lynott and Paul Brady in your back yard…Punchestown 1982.  Corbyn fairly rocked the place! Heading to hang 25 O’Donovan Rossa shirts on the line!
Oh one more thing…can I put a request in for Le Freak, c’est Chic when you hit the Waterfront!
Christy's reply
if you organize Kim & Folami I’ll give it my best shot..not many words to remember
Just going back to a song I learnt from your singing, On Morecambe Bay. Been watching your performance this morning again, with Declan on the Late, Late Show.
Powerful stuff. Looking forward to seeing you again in concert.
Christy's reply
thanks for posting…have not played it for a while…must get it out, practice it, bring it back to the set…
when new songs come in, older ones make way,
but there are evergreens that refuse to budge..like Japanese Knotweed
Have only seen you Live once. That was in Lismore NSW and I have just realised it was 20 years ago. We met after the gig as my friends wanted to present you with some handmade Celtic Jewellery. I had planned to see you again at the scheduled gigs at the Olympia when I was visiting Dublin. That never happened and I thought that I may have been at the last live gig. It was for a long time anyway.
Any plans for another Australian tour?
Christy's reply
greetings to Lismore NSW….no plans for any future long haul tours…I enjoyed my earlier trips to Australia & New Zealand and cherish the memories…

Two Moorefield men (O`Neill and Sweeney) and a Corkman (Murphy) doing wonders so far……….. We were at a Hop in Ryston last week, part of the Junefest, great fun and lots of chat of times past, Liam Kett spinning the records only got out for the slow ones, and walked herself home the few yards.

time to dream once more…they looked good in Tullamore….this a good young squad marking a fresh start for The Lilys…lets all turn out in hope more then expectation….but, then again, anything can happen in 70 minutes..we’re on the road again….The Flour Bags are back..there will be tailbacks at Buckleys Cross and The Bundle of Sticks
good to hear that Liam Kett is still spinning out the good vibrations
My daughter of 16 months is suffering badly with the chicken pox. Inconsolable. Irritable. Screaming. Shouting. Itching. The wife stuck on the Christy play list and she’s passed out to Delerium tremens. Result.
Christy's reply
sorry to read that your child is suffering..I hope she soon gets better
I’m headed to Ireland in a couple weeks for my first visit. John McDermott told me there are two things I shouldn’t miss in Ireland…. Matt Molloy’s and Christy Moore. I am incorporating both into our trip. John recently did a benefit concert for a charity I am involved with. Although I wish you were at a smaller venue during our visit, I’m looking forward to seeing you at the Marquee!
Christy's reply
Greetings Inishkea,
We will do our utmost to make The Marquee feel as small as you wish…it will be my 12th time to play it in 13 years and it always feels intimate…Matt’s in Westport is always a great halting place…. good music, good vibrations and, by all accounts, good drink..have a good trip
Dear Mr. Moore,
You once sang about the Spanish Civil War. My husband is Bob Hilliard’s grandson, Ryan Vickery. His mother was Davenet Hilliard who died in Rhodesia in 1957. Because of your song, John Robbie (British Lions player), Trinity College, was able to introduce Ryan to his grandfather. He gave Ryan an LP with your song. Obviously, I don’t know how you came to include Bob Hilliard in your song but I would like to thank you for helping my husband find out who he is.
I wish we could attend your upcoming concert but Ireland is very far away.
Yours faithfully,
Velvet
Christy's reply
Dear Velvet,
Thank you for your post…I wrote about Bob Hilliard and The International brigade after reading Michael O”Riordans book “The Connolly Column”..I still sing this song at almost every concert ..it is very well recieved in most quarters….I will try to send you a recording of a recent performance in Glasgow, Scotland where it is particularly popular..
thank you for sharing your story….I remember John Robbie very well….I still follow Rugby very closely and have had the good fortune to sing for the Ireland squad on many occasions..
Hi Christy, just returned from a 250 mile round trip to see Jackson Browne for the first time, couldn’t make the Phil’ or Bridgewater Hall so had to make my way to another of your old stomping grounds, the Sage in Newcastle but it was worth every mile. The concert reminded me very much of one of yours, the Jukebox was on Free Play from almost the start and he started songs I have never heard before but felt I had know all my life by the time he finished them. Got tickets to see Brian Wilson next month, so all I need to complete my Holy Trinity is conformation of the date for your next Liverpool visit, yours in eager anticipation,. Let the music keep your spirits high.
Christy's reply
Jackson in great form in Vicar St Dublin last week…saw Brian Wilson here about 8 years ago..amazing gig….first half Beach Boys hits..second half Pet Sounds ,note for note like he recorded it…..towards the end he threw a rose into the crowd..I ran and caught it for my darling wife..( forgetting that I was in my 60s !!)..hope to make it back to Phil, Bridgewater, and Sage next year….maybe with a Buxton or York for the sheer joy of it….beavering away at the songs here..dark and lonely work but ( contd p94)
New Ross last week was mighty, but the past two nights in Dun laoghaire have been very special gigs. These solo nights are just unreal…like going back in time a bit…great chat between songs etc…and to hear the songs you and your son Andy are doing is just a treat to the ears…Gortatogart, Gardener and Quiet Desperation have been highlights over the past two nights, not to mention a mid year Fairytale of NY…
The new guitar sounded well, as did the sound in the Pav…plus I’ve baggsed the poster in the hall..lovely venue for you…thanks for two lovely concerts..
Christy's reply
Hey Lar…hope you are enjoyin Summer round The Rock…..the solos are going well….I’m lookin forward to re joining the Companeros but I’m determined to keep the solo gigs on track

the problem is caused by my very rudimentary gadget skills..
you’ll have to work out where the chords land properly
this is the basic shape. it can vary betimes, some nights the old A minor or the odd D7 might drop in

Good afternoon Christy!
Summer Solstice … and we’re sweating here in awful hot Germany. So the longest day of the year is over – hope it was a good one for you!
Would like to wish you well for your Solo tour – I hear the gigs during the last two weeks were splendid. Had the pleasure to listen to some of them (thanks to our dear singing bird) and I was thrilled … it was a bit like a trip down memory lane to the eighties and nineties when we only encountered you solo in concert.
All the best, Traudel

My first visit to Germany was in the ( Very Hot) Summer of 1972..part of a tour with Planxty, Leinemann, Champion Jack Dupree and the Polish Singer/Poet Maciej Zembati….we played Festivals,Concerts and Clubs….’twas very Hot
13 years later I returned for my first solo tour..met Abi Wallenstein,we did some gigs together….met Uli in Swiebel, Fasan in Fasan’s Kniepe… drank too much, missed some gigs….bad bad karma… then did a few tours with Jimmy Faulkner….
Hello Christy I hope you’ve not become too red. The whales did indeed turn up. So did the porpoises and the seals. Baltimore is a great place. Incredibly beautiful and the water was plain sailing. We stopped at Cape Clear Island. Prior to that we visited the Famine Exhibition in Skibbereen. Theres a cool Mick Blake song about the money sent by the Choctaw Nation. I was impressed by the prisoners on a Woolwich prison ship sending 17 shillings. Yesterday we went to Killarney where a very obliging barber shaved the sides of my daughter’s head. He’s called Kevin of Boru Barbers should you ever be passing. He was a jolly fellow. We’re having a fab time. I hope you and yours are well. Xx
Christy's reply
staying in the shade…gotta be chilled for tonight and tomorrow with these home town gigs..
Baltimore holds many memories…from there we set sail to two Sherkin Island festivals in the 70s and further exploits there in the 80s…in the 90 we left Baltimore once again to spend 3 great Summers upon Cape Clear….there runs a magical Fiddle Fair held in Baltimore every year run by the iniminatable, indefatigueable Declan McCarthy..this year it celebrated its 25th anniversary..I’d almost take up the fiddle myself just to get a gig there…( see Arty McGlynn Cathal Hayden Baltimore You Tube)
Mick Blake writes songs that dig deep and throw well back…
what need would I have of a Kerry barber except to trim my nostrils and earholes?
used to sing a song called “The Kerry Barber” but so long ago I cannot even remember it myself
Glad your trip is going well….all good here as I set sail for Kingstown
Maidin maith a Christy,
Listening to the Nolan show and talk about Celtic playing Linfield in Windsor Park on the eleventh night…the radio is now unplugged. That led my thoughts to twelfth night and have change one word in the following Shakespearean sonnet:
Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate:
Rough winds do shake the d’Arlene buds of May,
And summer’s lease hath all too short a date…hopefully this dup/conservative lease will also have a short date.
Like you I am hoping the Donald does not unearth any ancestors…preferably Rockall. Having listened to local news I am heading to Skellig Michael! Actually the garden with Lily! Sorry for the rant! Mary
Christy's reply
Skellig Michael sounds good….once read a great novel based on the discovery and development of the monastic community there..
I need a “news” free week here..cant take any more of it for the time being…the shenanigans of a fresh front bench in Dublin, Varadkar playing the same old game all over again…
