thats a great picture of Sean on stage at Glór..thanks for feedback…when I wandered up the Hill of Tulla that Sunday in 1964 little did I think where my journey might lead…I learned a lot during my brief sojourn…got lo play with Paddy Canny, met with Joe McGrath, Heard ‘Spancilhill” for the first time, John Minogue, told me he would get me the lyric and he was true to his word, met Vincent Griffin, travelled to Miltown with John Minogue and Joe McGrath where I got to sing Liverpool Lou with Willie Clancy playing pipes….I often think back to my days upon The Windswept Hill…Teddy Murphy’s Mother taught me “The Scariff Martyrs” she had been at those funerals
Hi Christy we are coming over to the gig at Mullingar Park Hotel .We are staying with family in Granard before we get to Mullingar.Last time we were over we were reminded of the tragic tale of Anne Lovett by an article in the sunday paper. Would you be able to play Song For Anne Lovett or Tyrone Boys ( the version on Where I Come From). Thanks in advance for the gig.
Christy's reply
its seldom that I am asked to sing the song for Anne Lovett…hopefully I will be able to sing it come Saturday..the Lyric was written by Nigel Rolfe and was originally called “Ostrich”…. it became known as “The Middle of The Island” and , sometimes, was called “Everybody knew, Nobody Said”…in recent years it has become “Song for Anne Lovett” which is probably the most appropriate title…I also worked with Nigel on the songs “Tiles and Slabs” and “Rory is Gone”…..
“Tyrone Boys” appears more often…I gigged it 10 times last year and, as you have noted, it is an ongoing work in process…with every performance it changes slightly…two noble calls Steven..cant guarantee anything but ,if the wind is blowing in the right direction, well give ’em a blast….
I played both these songs in 2014 at an event in Maynooth University that was held to mark the 30th Anniversary of Anne Lovett’s death…there were two people present who were school pals of Anne. They spoke of her and described the young girl about who’s tragic life we know so little.
re Ruairi_b below, can you make contact below re Whatever tickles your fancy,
will get you sorted, you see it on ebay/www.discogs.com and sometimes either the vinal’s or the double cd my email is adamswicklow@gmail.com

Also I was searching for the album “Whatever Tickles Your Fancy”, is there any copies still in circulation?
Thanks!
Christy's reply
All good, thanks be..

re the “Johnny”song….it never worked that well live and fell off the list about 10 years ago…it may reappear but no plans currently…safe journey to Kildare and Westmeath
Long time Christy! I’m strategizing for a visit and at long last seeing you in concert after these countless rides around the sun. So glad to see you and your music tribe are well. Sending love and whatever blessings the mysterious Beloved Divine allots me.

Hi Christy
Harry Boardman and young rapscallions such as C Moore,M Harding,B Wrigley,T Capstick et al are likely to be traceable via the treasure trove at
library,folknorthwest.co.uk
Your description of Harry Boardman Is spot on.It was an interesting time of transition, when the trad.diehards realised that change was in the air via young performers and fans. Some old guard were part of the change (Martin Carthy,Dave Swarbrick)) and embraced the new.,to great effect.Fairport Convention is 50 this year.Sandy Denny (RIP) would have been 70…’we do not count the time’….D
Christy's reply
I rem Bernard Wrigley out in Bolton and him like a ships foghorn rattling the glasses with his warm rich deep basses…Young Harding out in Crumpsall in ‘t old house at home (was it boddingtons) and him giving this young paddy the start…across hills down south in Rotherham Capstick was amongst the funniest I ever encountered and him rollicking from Sheffield to Bentley.. I gigged with Tony one night up in West Hartlepool when we somehow got double booked in a small club back in 1968….how we laughed together and sang and drank and, I think, even shed a few tears…..I heard Fairport in 1969 in Free Trade Hall..what I rem most are ~Sandy’s voice and Richards sounds…a truly inspiring Band…they awoke many of us to look beyond our narrow view….Carthy & Swarb were stunning back then…Martin still to the good, ploughing his furrow straight, never losing sight of shore… and me back here mixing my metaphors…
How are things Christy, I was talking to you after your gig in the Brandon, Tralee in early December, Thanks for the picture!, A fantastic night with an incredible atmosphere. As a teenager I love listening to your songs and am wondering when will you make your return to the Beara peninsula??
Christy's reply
Top of Hungary Hill soon as the hay is saved and turf clamped in the Haggart…I’ve a few loose slates to sort and drains to clear…walk the dog, milk the goat, spey the kittens, bleed the rads, chaw the fat, saddle the pony, anoint the grand-aunt,count the chickens, tighten the belt, button the lip, stall the digger, ladle the broth, light the fag, lower the pint, raise the flag, fiddle the float, cook the book, finger the flatula, float the boat, fuck the begrudgers, trim the velvet, peel the spuds, shave the bacon, boil the cabbage, wet the tea, rip the calico, settle the hash, bury the hatchet, pull the plug, thread the needle, kill the (golden)goose, back the favourite, hit the road and Beara here we come
Dear Christy..
About 3 years ago you came up while I was busking outside Avoca cafe in Monkstown…we had a chat about Lola / Ray Davis /…playing in pubs in England etc…you had a woolly hat on as it was a cold day so I didn’t recognise you..I said,…”you sound like Christy Moore.”..when you said “I am.Christy Moore ” I was in a pleasant shock for days .. You gave me words of encouragement at a time I was at a very low point of my life…happy to say ,3 years on , I’m no longer homeless and after counselling in Ireland and uk have dealt with the suicide of my girl…and I’m just back from playing and singing in the sun of Gran Canaria…your kind comments ( and generous donation!!!!)…meant a huge amount to me then and I get goose bumps thinking about it now…and when I tell people I play in front of…
I see you are gigging in Ennis tonight and around Ireland at the moment…I’m sure it’s going great …lucky people..
Next time I’m over I hope to catch a gig ..or down here in Sussex

My name is Brian Kelly from Drogheda. I’m a big fan. My first ever concert was you live at the point when I was an 11 year old and I’ve seen you in Dublin, Drogheda, London, castlebar, Glasgow and Edinburgh since!
I will be at your concert in The City North in gormanstown on Saturday 25th February. I will be there with my wife (of only 7 days!!!), my mam and dad and my new father in law.
I would love it if you could sing Nancy Spain on the night and dedicate it to my new wife and mother?!
It is my mams favourite song of yours and when we could engaged on Clare island a few years ago a few musicians in the parish centre sang a song to mark the occasion and of course they sang Nancy Spain! It is also featuring in the wedding ceremony as my mam brings up the offertory!
Hopefully you might be able to give us a mention! Thanks a million for all the memories to date and I hope to see you fit and healthy and singing for years to come.
Best wishes,
Brian Kelly
