Been away too long…..nice to see Colorado Springs folks at the gig….what a time in that lovely town at the foot of Pikes Peak!!! Getting ready to listen to the new one but now distracted by comments about “Sweet Thames” and “Aengus” and others that I adore…..been music-less last 6 months. Will remedy that now. Wishin’ I were on a trail of gigs up and down the fair isle…….sing away, CM!!!!
Christy's reply
Rest easy CR…find a quiet peaceful corner of Colorado….we’re just getting over Biden and Brexit here..we escaped a visit from trump, thanks be to the holy mother of jasus, st patrick, the apostles. mother teresa and bishop casey
Dear Christy,
Sorry for the delay in thanking you for playing “Voyage” for my husband and I at your concert in Westport on the 24th of June. We had no idea his niece had contacted you, and needless to say it was the best present we could have asked for. Your concert was the perfect end to a perfect honeymoon in your beautiful country. From the bottom of our hearts we thank you.
Christy's reply
it was a pleasure…I enjoy this song more with every passing year
What a musical journey of song in Cashel on Friday. From the poignancy of All For the Roses, the craic in Amsterdam, the Tipp influence of Farmer Micheal Hayes and Galtee Mountain Boy interspersed with lots of fantastic Lily songs and a mesmerising The Gardener … ah I could go on and on … it’s not often you belly laugh one minute and have tears in your eye the next … but I did. Thank You. x
Christy's reply
Eileen a stór..sorry I missed you in Cashel…was having throat problems which I needed to address ….yes, it was a lovely night, really liked the “Nelly Ryan Art Centre” and the audience were a great mix of young and old..thanks for your feedback and for the review …( yours was first up !!)…hi to Brigid…next time we must have a chat….
All Good things come to those who wait…..
Christy I ripped open the pre-ordered new cd a month or so ago, frisbeed it onto the CD player and sat back ,but I just didn’t get it. This had never happened before, checked it, yes I had put on the right cd, so hold on , calm down it will be fine. I decided to put it away for a while. Two long weeks later I knew it was time to try it again, so on it went, this time in the car to Carlisle .
Again I am not sure, granted there are a couple of decent enough songs but I am not yet gripped….shake yourself man, it’s christy bloody Moore, persevere, keep on keeping on, so I let it play again.
This time I got it and two weeks later it is reassuringly there, accompanying me to Manchester, Greenock, seahouses and Dumfries , spinning like a mad man on cider, forty times or more it has rotated and I sing and sing and sing , as the cd spins before my very ears, round and round like a record baby as Pete burns declared.
So can I apologise christy, you are my hero, You are a genius, I should never have doubted you,I was an eejit but am now cured.
Let me hope that the more I look at the madness of the brexit vote it will eventually change to ‘remain’ …..as all good things clearly come to those who wait.
Rory
Christy's reply
RORY, thanks for persevering, I had similar journeys with some of the songs…I first heard Laurel 40 years ago, Tuam Beat 22 years ago, Gardener 12 years ago, I struggled with Wallflower before finding the root…I fear that Brexit may prove to be like Japanese Knotweed….I’m still working on Lost Tribe and Oblivious…just this morning I imagined a new outro for my Brothers song “City of Chicago”…as Andy Irvine sings “Never tire of the Road”
You are correct Christy… aris !!,,, here is a link to Ewan McColl and Peggy Seeger singing Sweet Thames,,,,https://youtu.be/zmn5pOxb2iM ,,, and on 11th Oct in the National Concert Hall in Dubin Peggy will be joined by Calum and Neill MacColl, and guests singers including Martin Carthy, Eliza Carthy, Chaim Tannenbaum and Declan O’Rourke who will ” present new arrangements of MacColl’s music, a chance to hear his beautiful music and heartfelt lyrics expanded by a whole host of voices and instruments. “… just in the middle of your Autumn UK tour,,,, In the recent gigs you have shared some rare gems,,,, to honour long haul listeners,,, or fallen young men,,,, the never ending tour is never boring,,,, thats for sure,,, it was great to hear Sheamie sing in Sligo,,,, roll on the Folk Festival next weekend,,, after Ballinasloe,,,, Oh and by the way its 3 years next week since you played those 2 magical gigs in Knocknagoshel,,,, they patiently await your return le cúnamh Dé ,,, beir bua agus beanncht,,, H
Christy's reply
I still remember first hearing “Sweet Thames” back in 1969…my late friend, Derek McEwan had all of Ewan MacColl’s Radio Ballads..thats where I gathered many of Ewan’s songs..sorry to miss the MacColl Family visti to Dublin on Oct 11th at the NCH..that will be a great gathering..
Recent gigs have been most enjoyable for the Band..personally I was moved by The Somme reflection in Cashel’s Halla na Féile ( The People’s Art Centre)..how two disparate songs can simply capture an atmosphere..there was a similar experience many years ago at The festival of Dranouter, close to Ypres in Belgium…
Sheamie shone in Sligo. His Mother, Son and Daughter were in the audience…the music is in his genes..his Father Joe was a lovely Fiddle player and his Mother still plays and inspires those around her…
Knocknagoshel resounds and Killarney beckons
Thanks for playing Sweet Thames last night. I was there and it meant a lot. Couldn’t have enjoyed the show more; I’ve seen you a few times but it was great to hear you in my home town. Hope that frog has gone back to his pond. Keep her lit as long you can
Christy's reply
Its a lovely song, so well crafted..Ewan MacColl’s original song has 3 more verses
Hello Christy. Myself and Patrick are home from Perth to see the family and of course to see your good self tonight. Would love it ft if you could play So Do I. Much love Christy. Xx
Christy's reply
Listeners from Perth WA and Melbourne last night….I enjoyed singing “So Do I” and “Little Musgrave” …..two noble calls…Loved the venue and the audience ..fair play to Nelly Ryan and her volunteers…no Heather Humphries Here….
Four big fans aka ‘The Badgers’ on the way to see you Christy this evening in Cashel. They met you after your last visit to the Tipperary Excel. Looking forward to a great show especially Simon on his 13th birthday!
Christy's reply
Hey you Mangled Badgers..did not read your post til the morning after…hope the band is still in the groove..enjoyed meeting you rapscallions in Tipperary Town..are ye still playing together ??
Can’t believe how special last night was 2 hours and 20 minutes of pure beauty. Some special songs there alright – Folk Tale and Aengus for certain and the silence for Veronica really moved me – hard to believe that 20 years have passed. The support from Dec, Seamie and Jimmy certainly added to the whole show – such talented and special guys. Thanks for the shout out – was good to be back amongst friends. Enjoy the Premier tonight and hope to see you again soon.
Oh Christy, what a bunch of incredible songs appeared last night!!!
Wish I was there only to hear Folk Tale, Wandering Aongus, First Time Ever …
The blackbirds in our garden still singing beautifully.
Good Luck for Cashel!
Traudel
Yes , as you said, such a beautiful mix of songs in Sligo last night. Seamie on top form in his hometown….. The harmonica at the outro of the cliffs was spine tingling. We took a late dash to Sligo with Conor stepping in to the co-pilot role and boy did he pick a good one to come out of hiding for ( a few years now since he managed to make it to a gig ) and he thought it was great too. Pity it’s such a long way to Tipp…. A pair of brown eyes for the centenary of the Somme ? Should make all those Tipperary lips smile.
Christy's reply
fair play to U3….glad that Conor is still keeping an ear open…its a great buzz to share the songs with younger generations…keeps us auld fellas on our toes…
Yes we did “Pair of Brown Eyes”last night and paired it with “All for The Roses” in memory of the 19,200 poor souls slaughtered 100 years ago on July 1st 1916
A perfect mix last night. Thank you Christy from all of us from Sligo and far away places who enjoyed a wonderful night with your songs, music and harmonies.

What a roomful of listeners gathered last night in Rosse’s Point…for the quietest of songs we could hear the price of a pin drop…ye drew some sweet notes out of us last night..seldom heard ballads appeared from nowhere..Cry Like a man, Folk Tale, First Time Ever, Lily, The Song of Wandering Aongus,16 Jolly Ravers, all got a rare “seeing to”..32 songs in 2 hours 20 mins and I could have gone on longer… but the kettle was boiling and the tablet was wearing off
A century on from the Battle of the Somme makes for a reflective day on our islands.Borders and regions mattered little when the shells and bullets were flying.
Ron Kavana’s ‘Reconciliation’ is set for playing here later. This city remembers the fallen with ceremonies and a special production in Heaton Park, where many troops trained before leaving for France.
Tremendous BBC tv coverage too.

My Lancashire Cousins, (from Bury and Ramsbottom ), have gathered in Ypres to remember their Grandfather. Joe Sheeran came from The Cotton Mills on the Banks of The Boyne. He joined the Leinster Regiment and marched off never to return.
Best wishes to Rosses Point, dear Christy!
Just got aware that it’s already two years ago when we saw you there ..
and the night before we had the privilege to attend your legendary concert together with the Grehan Sisters in Boyle where Seamie also accompanied you. Very good that he is joining the Band tonight again, he’s such a gifted musician.
Will listen to some of your music now and thinking of beautiful County Sligo and Queen Maeve, the Hazelwood, Benbulben …
Enjoy your gig! Traudel
Christy's reply
That Night in Boyle was so special….it felt like John (Jacko) was there beside us in the room..and to hear The Grehan Sisters again, that was there first gig in over 30 years..to hear Fergus Russell and Gerry O’Reilly, to play with Sheamie that night was real tight too…..
If I was a Blackbird,I’d whistle and sing,
and follow the ship that my true love lies in..
Ben Bulben is shrouded in rain clouds as the listeners gather…
Don’t think I’ll have time for Queen Maeve this time, but Lily singing in my ear will do the job. Looking forward to the gig. It’s good to be back.
Christy's reply
I took a Rocky Road up Croagh Patrick
and a Mossy Path way up Sliabh Gullion Braes
I plunged the deep at Brandon Creek
and slept in a glade way up beside Queen Maeve
All alone along The Wicklow Way
peace and solitude I found
But when I reached the slopes of Mullaghmore
I knew that I was on The Holy Ground…(from In Praise of Mullaghmore )
See a mention of the Ropes, and the smells came back to me.I worked one Summer in there, we made the twine for the Tintawn carpet, a filthy dusty and smelly job. Do you remember the huge bales of sisal, they came in from Kenya, and big drums of creosote, the baler twine was soaked in this……. The football is not to good for us at the moment but will stick with it. Off to Miltown soon to make hay and get Anne to sign her cd and take a few snaps.
Christy's reply
I always liked the smell from Irish Ropes..I’m sure that I’d feel different had I worked there….I remember the bales of sisal arriving on the CIE lorry from the Station..I knew hundreds of the men and women who worked in The Ropes, still do to this day…I think that the Binder Twine was called “Red Setter”….. kneeling for the rosary on Tintawn Carpet was Purgatory itself..my knees are still skint…
my theory on our Football is this… we have decided to take the long road to get ourselves ready for September. (and also by pass the Leinster Final)..this means we wont meet Dublin until we are ready…come September we shall bate them up The Hill and back down again ( I am on strong medication as I write this)
A question for you..Where is Coffey’s Clock ?
Good luck in Sráid na Cathrach…you must nearly be due the long service medal there !…Anne Rynne’s album is a beauty….some achievement for her first album , recorded in her Golden Years
Back home after a wet but wonderful holiday.
So glad I could deliver on Thursday, felt for 7 days like a hen on her eggs, afraid for breaking or melting (with those high Irish T°).
And then Paddy gave me a poster! There was the hen back. How was I gonna get it in one piece home. Lucky there was Hilary to remind me there exist tubes.
Thank you and the rest of the guys for playing so beautifully “Shine on “.
It was really splendid.
Don’t now if many people now what the song is about, but it’s a nice tribute from a group to their founder. For us it’s a special song because we work with those crazy diamonds.
Anyway it where two memorable nights on the first row (again thanks to Hilary). You are all playing very good together.
Lily is giving me consolation now in expectation of the next gig.
Ride on dear Christy you make a lot of people very happy.

I’m sure there’ll be a Cashel song for Joe Sheeran and fallen comrades,Christy.Wonderful that your cousins are in Ypres.
If you have chance ,check out the images of the thousands of memorial tiles laid in Heaton Park in memory of those who died at The Somme.
