I was a pro soccer coach in Iceland for about 7 years Christy and to beat the boredom I started gigging – I did Irskur Dagur (Irish Day) in August 2011 in front of about 4000 people. I was out of me depth but it was a great craic – The stress of the aul job after 20 years of being a pro caught up on me and I came home to Cork – and within a month I was offered gigs outta nowhere! haha. So I took a year off from the footy and developed me own fitness class FRP – Fitness for Regular People and did the odd gig. And I;m happy out doing it!
The Fairfield Tavern in Knokka is a bar in the Northside of Cork in Knocknaheeny and as small as it is – tis a fecking daunting place to play 🙂 – But I was giving Beeswing, Go Move Shift and Viva a good rattle today so I’m gonna throw them in up above next time.
Eira one of the days I’ll meet ya and well learn the Ferryman together big fella – A diamond you are!
Christy's reply
FRP sounds good to me…..sounds a bit like my own routine…a few stretches and jerks with a few ballads thrown in….will have to check out this Knokka gaff….keep coming back
Jaysus, ye had me all jittery. Wouldn’t mind, it if it was alcohol I’d of held onto it for dear life… Dropping me coke… Thanks again for the shout out. I played a few tunes while I was being drowned out by a sound check beside me. Had two people look in my direction during my set. Walked along the main road looking for a taxi that cost me twenty quid. And that was a good day… hah, someone said to ‘well, if yer happy playing music, I guess you’d be just glad ye played’. I tell ye, I played to get across to the main stage to see yer self, that was good enough… Good seeing ye in me back garden from the front row. Pleasure. Thanks for the tunesChristy
Christy's reply
you were a fine cut of a buachaill standing at the front last night…I only saw videos and photos of you sitting before…I’d no idea that you were a giant warrior of a man !! really enjoyed that gig last night….Wickla was Welcoming …watch out for that coke and alcohol!!!(I’m only coddin)…But tis a lethal concoction….a bit like chasing 2 dragons, both of the hoors running in opposite directions….see you along the road Dylan
Great to hear the positive feedback from the gig in the tent. Tis wonderful the joy you bring to so many venues – every gig different but too quality. Good to see the Lily Whites get the wheels back on the wagon . Hopefully see you along the way again before too long. Keep doing what you do.
Christy's reply
Good Man John…yes, the Lilies are still swaying in the wind….a bit fleadhed out here after the last 3 gigs… but with a few days rest and recuperation we’ll (hopefully) be ready to rock ‘n roll in Waterford next Friday night ….fair play to you for keeping an eye on our travels and checking in
Thanks for another memorable night at the marquee.Great atmosphere and great sound.Thumbs up.It was an honour to have been there last night.Ride on into 2015 and 2016

thanks for The Rome Tapes which I have added to my archive…nice job on the sleeve…best wishes to all Italian Singing Birds
What a wonderful night myself and Wendy had in the Marquee . Yourself and Declan, Vicky and Jim were on top form ! The atmosphere in the Marquee was electric and song after song got better and better as the night wore on . We particularly appreciate the time you took after the gig to meet and greet us even though there was a film crew making a documentary at the time. The greatest surprise of all of course was when myself and Wendy were leaving the venue and you noticed that all the taxis were gone and said for us to Jump in the Jeep with yourself and Mick and you dropped us into Cork city before making the drive back to Dublin. Gentleman as ever !
Thank you and thank Mick

Morra Barney….Hope ye got home safe and sound, glad your trip Leeside went well..we carried on balladeering in Killruddery last night…..have a few days off now to rest the voice box and take the chill pill…..Saturday in The Marquee was wild and windy…always a concern when playing under canvass but it just about held for us (tho Wendy was feeling the cold by the time we met up !!!)….last night in Wicklow the beautiful evening sky was our roof as we played outdoors in Kilruddery estate….it was a cracker of a gig…we were the last act of the weekend. The crowd were wonderful, all ages shapes and sizes gave us a mighty welcome…numbers swelled as the gig unfolded….as we got towards the end, the natural amphitheatre was rockin beneath the night sky…its a unique event, this garden festival…a lovely vibe…no heavy security,no mad drunkness, everyone seemed chilled out and friendly…fair play to the organizers…thanks to everyone…..
Hope all is well in Brownstown and Suncroft this morning….that we meet up again before too long…I’m gonna get up in a while and see whats in that envelope of yours…
Fantastic night last night Christy….sang all the favourites..the hubby had a fantastic Birthday….I understand you can’t wish happy birthday to everybody, but a bit disappointed you didn’t reply to my message yesterday…still I’m sure you had a very busy day…great night all the same…keep it up!
Christy's reply
it sure was a crazy day yesterday Sandra but I’m not comlaining…after 50 years on the road I feel very priviledged to have such great listeners…to be still doing these gigs….I’m happy to read that your husband had a good night, I understand your disappoinment
Forget the Ferryman big man – you were terrific – You must be drinkin Manuka honey in your tea – you sounded great.
I’m playin in the Fairfield Tav in Knokka on the 19th and I’ll be throwin in a few from tonight – You didnt miss a beat my man – As always Top Class!
Christy's reply
Fairfield Tav in Knokka ?? Where is that Johnny Boy? You mentioned Iceland in your previous post….are you gigging there ? tell us more…
thanks for the feedback on last night…re the vocals–its what I dont drink that helps the voice….years ago I nearly had the vocal chords washed away with all the feckin gargle I used to pour down the poor auld gullet….
tell us more about Knokka…is it like Knock ? did herself appear there ( and I dont mean Bjork)?
Thinking of when you shared a flat near the Ritz Cinema in Clonmel with George Collins and ? O Donoghue and I had just done my leaving cert and had a summer job ing pints in Killilea s pub at the end of the town. Happy days!!!!
Christy's reply
Hey Liz, lovely to read your recall of those far off days in that Vale of Honey…shared a flat in McCarthy’s Hotel with George Collins, Denis O’Donoghue and (the One and Only) Martin Harney….it was around that time that Jack Killilea opened his pub down near the Dog Track….it quickly became known for its stunning barmaids ( but not for its pints!) there was not much loose porter supped in Clonmel back then…the “Large Bottle” was the favoured tipple.
Yes Liz, they were happy days indeed. After that I moved around the corner and took up residence in Annie Kehoe’s 5 Star Hotel….I’ve travelled the world over since.Never once did I experience the equals of Annie’s hospitality.
Hi All,,, The 4th July, Independence Day in USA….thinking of all the migrants from all over the globe who built that country,,,, so many songs evoke their stories from great writers… this one from Wally Page is so powerful,,,,https://youtu.be/RwBDLEh-quU…. Congrats to Cill Dara today,,,,another step on the way to the one in a row,,, !!! .Slan tamall. H
We’re from Dublin and in Cork for the concert tonight..can’t wait..could you please please say Happy Birthday to my hubby Brian Redmond. He’s been a fan of yours since his teens. He’s 58 today!! Thanks for a lifetime of great music . See you later
Sandra Redmond
Can’t wait to see the gig tomorrow night Christy Boy – Haven’t seen ya for years – ( been away in Iceland) – If you’ve ever sang The Ferryman I’d love a blast of that 🙂 – Otherwise just continue being a geeza – All the best for tomorrow night!
Christy's reply
Welcome Home Johnny Boy….just packin the hurl for The Marquee…aint got no Ferryman for you…dont know that one
Christy,
a wee while ago I wrote an extra verse for Black is the Colour (sacrilege I know) for a very special friend. We will both be at the Usher Hall concert in Scotland in October…..
Realise pretty unlikely but thought I’d ask anyway……..any chance if you were singing Black is the Colour anyway you’d add the extra verse in?
Typed it below
In hope, Derek
Passed so many times, till our hearts did touch
Sunshine in my eyes, changed my life so much
Impossible dream, with hope it can come true
I’d wait a hundred years, my love for you
Christy's reply
Thanks for sharing that… I simply could not interfere with the flow of this great old Scottish Ballad….Hamish Imlach would visit thunder and lightning down upon us all …your creating the new verse for a special friend is certainly not “sacriligeous” ….but I must leave this perfect song as it is….as it has resounded over the decades…..
Hi All… what a weekend ahead,,,,,, tens of 1,000s will cycle around the Ring of Kerry for charity,,,, and exercise on Sat,,,, then the Tent gig and on Sun the influx of Rebels to Killarney for the much anticipated Munster Final,,, at least the Rebels can sing !!!,, this song is unlikely to be sung by the Lee,,,,but who knows ?? beir bua agus beannacht H,,,, https://youtu.be/tNnbECIxMKY

Christy, I hope you are taking the waters and have employed the services of a punkahwallah to waft your pate. How’s this for a road trip. Dub to Kilkenny to Cork to Bray to Dub. Methinks Mr Devine would surely wish to employ me as a driver! We’re looking forward to the Magic Road and the tolls and the trolls. I hope you are all feeling glorious. See you by the river. Xx
Christy's reply
Pate wafting is not a service with which I am familiar. Nor, for that matter, the services dispensed by a punkwallah…see you down the rebel girleen
Delighted to hear that you played another absolute stormer again at Glastonbury at the weekend, just like we knew you would. Has anyone else mentioned to you that the day after your Barrowland gig on 30 October that Celtic are playing Aberdeen at Celtic Park? I hope you will be able to treat yourself to some very well deserved, quality relaxation after a month on the road by getting along to the match. Weekends simply don’t get any better than enjoying you perform your magic at Barrowland on a Friday night and then seeing the Celts in Paradise the following day. Best wishes.
Christy's reply
yes Kevin, we are indeed aware of that fixture…in fact we have been asked to bring our boots…. Declan was quite a lad at the soccer back in his Wexford Youth…they still talk of him gliding like a Gazelle down the wings of Wexford Town… there was talk of him going to Old Traffod but Horslips signed him. He quickly became their outstanding player before moving on to greater things.
………..The words “relaxation” and “Celtic Park” in the same sentence?
Big Tents and Festivals….that time of year all right…and nearly time for the Holiers for most folks. We had hoped to go to Paulo Nutini on sat and then the Groove on sun but the best laid plans…. Not to worry,The Great Northern on the 17th is on the list and Bundoran in July is like a different town, especially different to your last visit and the storms blowing outside. I was talking to Conors cousin (18) a few days ago and I asked him what music he was listening to and he says to me “a lot of Christy Moore “. I didn’t know he was into your stuff at all . So I loaned him the Barras DVD and we hope they can make the gig on the 17th if they are not working that evening.
Kingdom waiting for the Dubs ?? couple of steps before that yet Patsy.
Christy's reply
Its all of 30 years since I played a Summer gig in Bundoran…bringing the Surfboard and Factor 50 this time…First gig there was 1972, I still remember Donal having a driving lesson in the old Planxty Transit Van…has the Blessed Virgin ever appeared in Buncrana (or did Pat McCabe make that up)
As the ref blows the whistle for the second half of the year, and the Dubs have gobbled up all before them, we can only hope that the Kingdom are ready and waiting in the long Grass. July of course is “Marquee” time, the Burgers & Chips dripping with Grease , and yourself and the great crew lashing it out in the Tent by the Lee.
“In July the man in cotton short he sits and thinks and being idle……..
Then back to the plush surroundings of Kilruddery….will it be Prawn or Hank sangwiches ????
