Christy, they were two brilliant gigs in Vicar Street the past 2 nights…lots of highlights, Mero gettin goosebumps at ‘Natives’.. a February Fairytale, nice to hear again ‘Encore’ in its almost original form..year 49 shapin up well, 4 & half hours of great music, great set up with Jimmy, Vicky & of course Declan..

Hey Larball, got a request from Niall Ennis for Encore so we gave it a rattle in the Greenroom before showtime. I just love when it slips into The Wild Colonial Boy and the room joins in so tunefully..most people seem to have some connection to that old ballad. Back in the 60s I used sing it in the folk clubs…Jack Duggan refuses to lie down….Thanks Lar
Christy, that was a brilliant concert in Viker street tonight. We really enjoyed the songs. This week we celebrate 35 years married! Glad to see you looking so well. Thanks for the evening.
Christy's reply
35 years and still romancing ….well done Mags….wish ye well
Christy, I have heard you live many times and love your music
I recently read your Book – and enjoyed visiting my Uncle, Michael Butler (87 later this year) and reading your memories of the National Bank in Clonmel and your description of him as the “as the golf-mad dazzler forever charming the rich auld ones”. Made his day ! and he followed up with stories of your Rugby playing days in Clonmel,
best wishes
Declan Butler

Its 50 years since I struggled at the Bank clerking…simply could not get the hang of it…always in trouble for being unkempt, hungover, sent back to “the digs” to shave… I still remember the Bank Manager in Clonmel telling me that singing in pubs was “unbecoming” for a junior bank official….he suggested that I might consider taking up golf or bridge…I took the boat instead…..please extend my best wishes to your Uncle Michael whom I recall was a dashing blade on the golf course and a right old charmer in the Bridge Club
Hi christy,
I would be very grateful if you could find time to fit Jimmy mccarthy’s The Contender into your set tonight… From two excited cork fans travelling from the rebel county.
Looking forward to the show!
Christy's reply
you may be on the bus back to The Capitol by now…that was a noble call last night..dont sing the “Jack Doyle” that often but, when I do, I’m always taken by the imagery. Jimmy was in a “purple patch” when he penned that one..fair play to him
Hi Christy, Another year Another Gig!!!

My aunt Catherine is going to your gig tonight in vicar street and i would really appreciate it if you could try fit little musgrave into your show tonight for her.
Went up to Derry over night to a buddy’s place in the hills of Derry to catch Lynched in a stone cottage local gathering. It was unbelievably perfect. Gonna be interesting seeing Ye Vagabonds On Friday plugged in. Hope things are good with ye. Managed a quick vid in the regular. Had hoped to make The 5 Lamps but got detained…heard about The Gretsch..if Johnny puts a saddle on that anything could happen….
Well I just booked a trip home to Ireland from Australia in August/September and was really hoping I might see Christy for the first time in many years (last time was circa 1996/7 in Geelong) but no gigs listed between July and October – does that mean no gigs during that time 🙁 Have you ever played in Armagh? Come on..Maghery even…
Christy's reply
the following dates are scheduled for Oct but not up on the gig page yet
Oct 2 Letterkenny 3 Sligo 9 Cavan 10 Ballina…dont have details yet …none of these gigs are in Armagh but are as close as I’ll be at that time ……Hope you have a good trip
Hi Christy , I like Dylan’s speech especially the song comparisons part – it takes some of the mystery out of them but i’m not sure if thats a good or bad thing. I was surprised to see him hitting back at critics etc … and other singers , why bother at this stage? I hope the full speech will make the TV broadcast. This link tries to explain some of the reasons behind different points he made. http://www.rollingstone.com/music/features/why-does-bob-dylan-hate-merle-haggard-a-musicares-speech-explainer-20150210
Booked up to see you at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall and the Liverpool Philharmonic in October 2015, cannae wait. You are a legend.

One Last Cold Kiss…… I love singin this song..from a great band called Mountain…heard it first in 1972 at a Planxty rehearsal
Ready and waiting! If you’re stuck for songs for the set list!!!….beeswing, lakes of pontchartrain, January man after that I trust your choices! 4 hrs and counting!
Hi Christy, Thanks a million for the request for Tara’s Birthday….To see her little timid french expression when you said her name says it all.
She’s back in France telling all the family that you sang for her!!!!
It was a great night Christy and Thanks very much for the Joy you can bring…
Take it easy….
Ronnie

Beware Christy, it is rocket fuel inspired. I am of course kidding.
As much I have been a pitiful drunken fool at times, I will own this one.
